I'm 1.83cm and I feel short reading the comments 😂
How tall are you?
191 cm
1.97 cm
185 cm, so about average.
185 cm or 6'1, so I'm bassically the average height.
1.80 , I felt short at school.. but in the south I would have been fine with my height
Everyone is tall in the Netherlands, except for Lil’ Kleine, he is our national dwarf
lol, his name is little little?
@@TeacherPaulReacts it is XD
@@TeacherPaulReacts his real name is jorik but yes his artist name is indeed little little xd
hahaha
Don't forget Wesley Sneijder, our soccer playing garden gnome.
I used to work for a Dutch guy whom I considered very tall; he was 2 m (6'6"). He then introduced me to his brother, who turned out to be even taller: 2.15 m (7'). 🙂
It's so funny. Most Americans react the same when they hear Shell and Philips are actually Dutch.
Elsevier (the publishing company) as well.
Shell is indeed Dutch, the abbreviation on the stockmarkets is RDS from "Royal Dutch Shell."
I had no idea, that's awesome
@@TeacherPaulReacts technically it is British and Dutch. There headquarters are in The Hague and London. But the office in The Hague is more important
You could definitely work as an English teacher here! In highschool English, Dutch and Maths are what we call the Kernvakken (Core Subjects) so you have to pass these 3 to be able to even graduate. They also teach other languages (German, French, Spanish, Latin & Greek) depending on the level of education you choose at highschool.
I'm 1.63 cm, so very short compared to all my friends and family. I have to constantly look up lol
I was going to say this too, so I'll upvote. We need more teachers here. So you definitely couls find a job here.
Dutch isn't even a requirement if you want to teach English at a highschool.
I had a teacher from Romania who just got here and taught us English and we helped her a bit with Dutch.
Because the whole year of English class was completely in English I did learn a lot quickly.
1,87m.
When seeing this, i am for sure proud to be Dutch!
"If ya ain't Dutch, you're not much!" 😝
I'm about 168. So as a woman around the average height.
The reason I've heard we're so tall is actually because we have been a very stable and wealthy country for a long time. Because of that most people could exactly reach the length that their DNA gives them and evolution can act more efficiently. Growth is hampered by a lack of food and stress. We also haven't had that many wars with lots of people dying in the last couple of generations in which healthy grown men are more likely to die since they're on the front line.
That is also what I have heard, a varied diet from all kinds of cuisines and sports recreation is a constitutional right
Yup, I've also heard the genetics argument is bunk. I wish I remembered what the issue was, but it seemed to be about diet in the end. Considering the tallest people in the Netherlands are in Noord-Holland, it makes some sense.
Same but i dont feel very tall lol
Obviously, the reason we are so tall is that we don't drown when the water levels finally catch up with us.
I am 1.86... now.. at 64 yr. I" blame" the cod liver oil, Milk, etcetera. My mother was low key vegetarisch.. lots of seisonal vegetables.. fruits.. i love them all.. exept ... sprouts 🤢
I'm not Dutch myself, but I have to say the extent to which they've gone in taming the sea is just incredible. While on exchange there I got to do a tour of the Delta Works (the series of flood prevention measures mentioned in this video) and the amount of work, money, materials and engineering know-how put into keeping the land from becoming sea again is simply on a different level.
I'm dutch and 194cm and I never felt I was that tall until I visited my sister in Australia.
Now you know why Floor Jansen is so tall.
I'm 1.75cm
I'm 185 and I'm one of the shortest of my friends lol
i'm 180cm but i am not a dutchman i am a somali man.
The thing is my whole family is below 170cm, the food and the pshyical education here is amazing.
thats why i am taller than my family
I am 1.94, and reached that when I was sixteen.
I was considered tall for my age at the time. This year however, I met a 17 year old at my college who is 2.01, and it made me feel extremely small.
I am from North Brabant, which is in the south, male, 1.91m.
I can tell you we Dutch are still getting taller. In my twenties, I would walk around and be one of the tallest people there. Now (20+ years later) I regularly encounter people that are noticeably taller than I am.
It makes me realize how some of my shorter friends must see me.
I am also from North Brabant, female. 1.57 cm. My kids (boys) are much taller.
Mfw I'm 178-180cm and Dutch. It's like being ''tall-ish'' everywhere else but ''a bit below average'' in your homeland. Not necessarily that short, I see plenty of guys my height or shorter but just below average.
I ain't too worried about it, lol.
Join the club. I'm 180cm tall and Dutch. I'm the short guy in my family :(
I am a tiny person. The tallest person in my immediate family is 171. I am the shortest one with my 163 cm. I am also the shortest one of my friends. Some of my female friends are like 185 cm.
I'm 15 and 183cm. Love the video! Greetings from the Netherlands!
I’m a 176 cm woman, so I’m not considered that tall!! Half of my female friends are around my height, and the rest of my female friends are like 165/170 cm. Most if my male friends are above 185 cm :) except one lmao
@8:15 sure and everyone else since around or before the romans, pays bas, nether-lands, lage-landen, belgica...all means the same thing "low lands"
I,am 5.11 ,my son is 6.2 and my dad was 6.3 , and feel short to them, but i,am a proud Dutchman, now living in Canada for more than fifty years.
The avarage height of Dutch men is 184cm and Dutch women 170cm.
I'm quite short for a dutchy, I'm only 178cm (5,10).
I'm one of the shortest of my friends and family.
Same
same here, but im about 176~177 but im still 16 (also the shortest guy in my family)
Kleine😀
A Dutchy of 178cm is a long smoke😇 🪁🤣🤣
I missed the Dutch traders smuggling ammo and weapons to "America" during the fight for independence..
We do not hold a worldcup unfortunatly. We hold the record for losing the most world cup finals though 😂
we won in '88, though
@@MM-ni3yl but that was the European championship
in french the Netherlands is called
Le Pays-Bas also meaning the low lands
and Nether means lower
just as Neder and Nieder
I’m from the Netherlands, i’m 16 years old, and i’m 185 cm and there are so many here that are way taller than me
I'm a 1,74 m (5'8"5), 20 year old female.
There are many moments in which I feel very tall, but the times I feel short happen more often than I like to admit... 😂🤣
I'm Dutch, 22 years old and 1.84 m! Love the vids
I'm a 2.00m (6"6) male, slightly longer compared to my friends, they are around 1.93m (6"4)
Taller bedoel je haha. Je vertaalt langer hier direct naar Engels hahaha
I'm 6,2 and from noord-braband a region in the netherlands.
From the Netherlands, I'm 6'5
The Netherlands even helped and are still helping New Orleans.
1.89 meters tall, living in the middle part of the country. I think with every generation we get taller and taller. My dad was taller then his dad, I'm taller as my dad, and I see many younger guys now that are taller as me. Good thing we prepared our houses for it with rather high ceilings xD
ps. We don't bully short people.....It will hurt our neck having to look down for too long.
Im 185 and a half centimeter tall and 17 years old
Im born and raised in amsterdam and I have a few more weird facts for you. I am 1.86m and usually one of the shortest guys when I hang out with my friends. Also we are friendly and polite but at the same time usually want nothing to do with you. We like our own little safe places, and if you are invited or accepted in those places I can assure you, you will have a friend for life.
Unilever is also a dutch compagnie
Dutchman here. I am 194cm (male) and my wife is 189cm
Hi guys, Dutch guy here standing 1.87m= 6.5/8 ft.
And now continuing watching your video;-)
I'm from the smal nabour Belgium. 195cm (6'5").
@14:00 you would, English is a mandatory course on all highschools, part of the language curriculem at higher levels and quite often part of primary school
there's no real controversy surrounding it. just people that forget what that holiday is.
people claimed something that it wasn't they claimed it was racism while not even knowing
anything about it.
basically it's St Nicolas and is helpers come to the Netherlands each year for his celebration, where his helpers would go through the chimney and give out gifts (and if you were bad, they would take you away to Spain)
but what causes the skin to become black is sut.
the make-up they use for the black skin tone its just representing sut (since a lot of houses don't have chimney's anymore
You mentioned Floor Jansen.. Now if one is tall? She is. Apart from that, she is a great singer who does challenge the art of singing.
i am a woman and Dutch and i am 1.74cm. I lived in spain for 11 years and i felt like a giant😂
1.83 or 6ft..
Grew up in the netherlands ^^
15:56 that’s Sinterklaas it’s the original Santa
Sinterklaas has “pieten” and some ppl see it as black facing and rasist but ather just see it as a children tradition and don’t really care
Clogs were also very practical on the clay acres. Leather shoes were quickly ruined by the water and you sink more into the clay. You slip more easily and your feet get wet.
It is not completely clear why we have become so tall. We were not really around 1900. Genetics could be part of it, but cannot be the only reason because the increase in height happened too fast.
Another theory is the food. Over the years the protein content of food increased. Lots of dairy products for example but also a high variety in vegetables. Because of the protein content you can become taller.
While this was going on the women were able to give their babies a boost toward growing taller because of the high content of protein in their diet and their own height. Newborn babies were heavier and taller.
Also people who moved from other countries to the Netherlands tend to get taller with every generation.
I'm 65 yoa and 193cm (~6'3") tall. Don't consider myself as being very tall here...
I'am Dutch Carribean from the ABC islands, and I'am 1.70 meters. But yes I can asure you that the average Dutch are very tall, atleast 1.80 meters. Men of 1.95 to 2 meters are not unusual.
Haha I am from The Netherlands but my parents are Asian so I have an Asian height: 1m70. The door for my apartment has a small window (actual window, not one of those sort of looking glass thingies) but it's placed on Dutch height so my family and most of my friends can't even look through that window. If I want to look through it, I have to stand on my toes and then my eyes will reach the lower part of the window so I can sneak peek but I usually just open the door without looking haha
Not all Dutch people are tall. In the last 50 years or so, generations are born who grow taller with each next one. In old Dutch films it's visible how much shorter we were. Around the start of the 20th century, Dutchies slept in beds of 150 cm. in enclosed spaces called "bedstee" like a mini room inside the house with doors. I've seen such short beds in my grandparents home in Frisia.
There are quite a number of people between 18 and 30 now that are towers of 2 meters tall. They have difficulty in trains, bending down all of the time when walking through doorways. Men and women alike, maybe more men. I'm 1.73 meters tall. Nutritionists and doctors have explained the reason for growing taller, that by drinking a large amount of milk on a daily basis, the bones grow big, resembling the big bones of cows. It sounds like a joke, but I'm not sure if it's meant to be a joke. In the 80's, when a huge sea of milk surplus had to find its way, a fierce campaign started to promote milk "Joris 3-pinter" was a famous slogan. It meant that when boys drank 3 pints of milk each day, they were heroes. Strong like Popeye with his power of spinach.
When I travelled in Britain, for a couple of years, Britons called me a tall woman, and indeed, I towered over most people in the streets. Also in Britain, the younger generations grow up taller than their parents and grandparents. Quite obese often as well.
The mixing of genes has increased much also, isn't it? I myself wonder about how the Americans can often be big-bodied people. Is it in sync maybe with the size of that continent? Or is it the diet? I've witnessed Americans that behaved larger than life, loud also.
I'm Dutch and 195cm, can't say I feel like I stand out with my length at all in the Netherlands.
i'm dutch! 17 years old and 5'11/~180cm
im from the netherlands and in 6'7 or roughly 1.97 meters
191 cm
6'3
From The Netherlands
I'm 1.92 cm! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I'm 1.87m from the Netherlands nice video 👍🏾
I’m a 1,93 male, my sister is about 1,76, my brother 1,88, my parents both 1,72 and my grandma was 1,52. (She’s the only grandparent I have known, the others had died before I was born). My grandma was so short because of malnutrition in her youth. She was originally from a village near Budapest in Hungary. Born in 1915 she was growing up in a country that had lost WW1. The economy was a mess, so much so that there was widespread malnutrition. The Dutch and Swiss offered a helping hand, getting children over to stay for a year to regain some strength before going back to their families in Hungary. My grandmother however was given the opportunity to stay in the NL, which she took. The damage done by a prolonged period of malnutrition could not be entirely undone, hence her being so short.
196cm - 17 years old from netherlands
I'm 183 cm tall, which is slightly below average. When working with internationals, the difference in hight can be quite noticeable regardless.
My height is 192cm and i am dutch. I do feel tall sometimes. 😁
I'm 196 cm tall, my dad is 193 cm, my mom is 180 cm and my sister 181 cm.
I'm around 176cm. Average woman height here in the Netherlands. But I'm only 15 yrs old, so I'll grow a bit more. I grew tall really fast. When I was 10 I'd be like, 15-20 cm taller than classmates...
@11:30 true story... carrots were purple and brown , and then we made em orange for the kings birthday and now the whole world eats royal birthday present carrots
I am 5'7 ft which is about 1.7 m for a woman. Most men and women I know are taller then I am. My cousin is (female) is almost 6 ft tall at about 1.8 m. So yes, we are generally tall on average.
Wow! 😮 your cousin is my height, lol
My niece is 1.78cm. I'm 1.71 (that's 'normal' but not tall). My nephew is 194cm. My brothers are around 186cm
I’m Dutch, 1.84m (just over 6 feet) and I’m below average.
I am dutch, 52 years old and 2 meters and 10 cm tall
193 cm, from the south of the netherlands
05:00 Why though?.. ok here we go.. When these islands were still part of the Netherlands Antilles they used the Antillean Guilder, that country and with it, her central bank were going to disappear. The Netherlands herself uses the Euro, the Netherlands has no unilateral power to implement the Euro in the BES islands, they needed approval from the European Central Bank, as well as all member countries of the Eurogroup. This was going to be months of work. Secondly these countries trade with nations in the region and not with European countries, to have the Euro as your currency in central America would not be a benefit for trade, also it is a popular tourist destination for Americans. The US allows other nations to use the dollar, so it was easier and more beneficial to the islands economies and trade.
Implementing the dollar originally was a quick fix to later implement the Euro, thankfully they thought about it and implementing the Euro would simply not be in the interest of these islands. So they simply kept the US Dollar.
Im 1.89 cm from the province of Utrecht. And I'm not even close to being so called "tall" here with my friends and family.
1,70 at 14 years old
