Actually it's not super accurate. In the beginning the right notes are longer and in the end the left notes should be longer and in the middle they should be evenly spaced. But he actually reaches even spacing for the first time at 10 and even has longer left notes around 11, 12 and 13. He then pedals back to the even spacing at around 15 and finishes the exercise pretty nicely. So yeah he actually went to fast but realized it and adjusted midway through. It's a really fun trick 😊
@@christopherbernhardt maybe i didn't phrase it well, by "even" i mean that they sound most "evenly spaced out," which is like you said, "out of sync." My english is probably is not that good sorry
But still his music doesn't catch as many people as guys who rock with three chords. Musical proficiency is nice to have but certainly not a prerequisite for writing great, impactful songs.
If your only reason for doing something is to be the best at it then you shouldn’t bother doing anything because there will AWAYS be someone who is better than you at some point.
He did something called a polyrhythm, which is basically multiple different rhythms playing at the same time. Make your left hand do beats at half notes, have your right hand do quarter notes, and that's a polyrhythm. What Jacob collier just did is hit two very fast beats starting and ending at the same time, but one has exactly 31 beats and the other has 30 beats. It's a 30/31 polyrhythm. Which is friggin insane.
I can't do it, and therefore my grading may be a bit rough due to my own inability but going by the comments I am forced to agree that beats 16/17 and 29/29.6 were off by a couple of milliseconds and the right hand hit the wall harder than the left hand every now and then as well. C-.
There must be a trick to doing this. I've seen him do this kind of thing a few times and I feel like there's got to be a specific technique. There's no way his brain is literally counting and working it out in the moment.
I have literally no clue what I am watching but everyone in the comments seems to understand this video...what is going on? hes just tapping the wall 30 and 31 times with different hands what does this mean help
Yeah basically, a polyrhythm is when you play two different rhythms at the same time. The difficult part is playing the notes evenly and taking the same amount of time, which Jacob did pretty well. Its easier to understand what it is if you try it yourself. Tap 4 times evenly with your right hand and then tap out 2 times with your left over the same amount of time. You just did a 4/2 polyrhythm. Now do that but with 30/31 lol
It angers me not only that he did it correctly, but that he counted 31 on his left hand rather than his right so it didn’t match the sign 😭😂
ikr
Would be interesting to know if he can do it the other way around as well
Nah it's actually supposed to be swapped if you think about it
@@masonmount17 why?
@@adamel-sawaf4045Think about it, it makes sense
what's crazier is that it sounds even at around 15 15, which means he's quite accurate

The notes should be more even around 1/1 and 30/31, while being most out of sync at 15/15.5

thanks for doing it

This dude's brain is incredible.

Could someone explain what just transpired? I have almost zero music knowledge.
He did two different, very similar rhythms in each hand. That’s really difficult.

Big slowing down when he got to 25 xD
I did wonder lol
I thought that was a little kid until he stood up
Just gotta hit one hand 1/30th of a second earlier each repetition of beats. Easy…. for Jacob BeastGod
