The absolute proof that distance between string and finger(s) during shreds doesn't have to be a problem as long as you're willing to work for your speed. This guy is a genius. Wow.
He once noted something to the effect that One thing he does with the fret hand is to turn the wrist toward the board with a bit of pressure, which might help compensate for the space gap. Amazing artist / great talent stack!
So soulful and melodic, all while displaying the utmost proficiency in technique. Truly an incredible musician!

Slow it down, and listen to it; not overly difficult, but it just takes time to digest; he is runnig backward in a sequence of 6 notes (da, da, da, da, da, da or 17, 13, 15, 17, 15, 13 = high e); skips a string, then jumps back up a string; he repeats it, descending one string at a time, till he gets to the low E; there he changes it up with 3 descending notes in the scale (2X); I have not figured out the ascending portion, but it should be too diffcult! What separates AJ is how he uses all this over top of everything he plays!
