BUT, in terms of character, Terry is a better successor because he wants the position. It’s an integral part of him because he needs to atone for his gangster days in the same way that Bruce made Batman to cope and prevent murder. The cowl means something special to him, so the appeal with him is that Batman continues to hold value and weight. Dick also obviously upholds the values of Batman but anyone knows his character knows that it wasn’t a wanted or ideal choice for him. He’s good as Nightwing- independent and impressive, especially in his tenure as the Titans leader (not sure the current continuity still has this anymore). Terry however, thrives as the newer Batman. Watching him is almost nostalgic because he does resemble Bruce, but he handles things differently, which makes him as exciting to watch as first Batman. (( I say all this but I personally loved Dick as Batman, regardless of if he wanted it or not.))

I absolutely HATED that the DCAU made Terry a "son" of Bruce Wayne. I thought it was one of the most ludicrously convoluted things to create a totally unnecessary change to a character that was already successful. By the way, does anyone know if Terry's little brother is also a "son" of Bruce Wayne? That was never addressed on the program. I wouldn't be surprised if the show runners totally forgot about Terry's brother.

I do think it's important to include Dwayne McDuffie and Andrea Romano among the major creative minds of the DCAU. Dwayne McDuffie was writer/editor/producer for 69 out of 91 episodes of Justice League, and co-created the Static character and wrote 11 episodes of his show. Andrea Romano was voice director for the entire DCAU, and casting director for everything except Superman and The Zeta Project. I was previously unaware of Alan Burnett, but I see now that he was a major writer/producer of pretty much everything prior to JLU.
