I have watched your video numerous times, not that I needed to for the basic setup, but each time I see another little tip that makes sense to me. The wooden dowel comes to mind as well as 'folding' the roof neatly when folding it up. Folding up a canvas tent was always a challenge when I was a Boy Scout. Keep up the good work.
THANK YOU!!! I purchased a Springbar Compact Tent and took it out on my first camping trip this past week. Setting it up went smoothly, and taking it down went well, however, I really didn't know how to fold it to get it to fit back into the tent bag. I rolled it to the proper diameter, but it was sticking out about 7" beyond the opening of the sack! I also had trouble getting all the sides neatly tucked before I rolled it back up, so it was sloppy. I was getting physically tired so I decided I'll re-do it when I get back home. Your technique on how to tuck the sides under the roof with the stick is a great idea, thanks so much!

Springbar tents are the BEST tent ever made!! I know you made this video in 2018 but just in case you're not aware Springbar now has a "stormfly" for their tents. Protects from debris and keeps it dry in wet weather.allowing for a dry take down!
I’m on here to remember how to fold up my old Family Traveler that I paid $3 at a Thrift Store 25yrs ago. It needed sewing on the rod sleeves & the hole I poked through the top because I thought poles went inside. This was before I had internet & before CZcams. Kirkhams did give me instructions on how to set it up & gave me some patching material. Eventually bought 2 new poles that are stronger & pole bag. Best tent I ever had & someone had to twist my arm in order for me to buy it. I chanced it & now my neighbor wants it. I think this tent is over 50yrs old & still keeps me dry. It was wet when I took it down & took it home to dry out. That’s neat about the rain fly & I’ll have to look into it. I never have used a ground cloth for it & never had problems but when it’s wet underneath I dry it out there or take it home to dry.
Shane I watched this before I got my Clasic Jack 100 - I took an old thick dowel and made a stick like yours and it stays in the bag with the poles. On the keeping spots off your tent well you can't stop the birds from doing there thing while flying! So I guess nature itself is coloring my world to some extent. I know your post is older but I’m looking at these tents and figure a rainfly would help keep it clean and lessen sun damage. They’re lightweight and easier to clean. 😁
Great tips. I watched on yeterdat where the guy said he was going to mark his front, but with your simple method of folding the back in first, solves that. The stick is another idea I have not seen before and makes great sense. I really do hate to poop anyones fun, but damn, those four wheelers kind of ruin the serenity of being in the wild. Maybe one day they will all go to 4 stroke and that would help greatly.
I haven't tent camped in years, we used to as kids growing up, we vacationed in a canvas tent from Sears. About ten years ago I went tent camping down in Disney with an instant tent. It sounds easy but the only thing easy was setting up and breaking it down was a mess, plus it got flooded during a rainstorm. It turned me off tents and then I decided maybe I should do this RV search and see if there is one that is the right price and size and weight, only to find out I would likely have to take a bank loan out. Add to that, the interest rates, the wear and tear on the car, the insurance and the worst part, how much am I really going to get out and use it? Adding it all up, I would be spending thousands and thousands of dollars on something I would likely only use two weeks a year at best. So, I found videos on tents that are of high quality, not like the insta-tent I used ten years ago. So, it's interesting to watch and I may go this route once again.
I also like that. When ya zip everything up it's nice and tight but being a canvas tent it still breathes a little so it doesn't get hot and stuffy in there.

Shane...do you have any experience with the new Springbar Stormfly? I live in the southeast where rain is almost a daily occurrence. I called Springbar and they had one available, so I ordered it. Haven't received it, yet. The Rainfly gets good reviews on the InterWeb, so I'm interested in how it's going to perform. Camping in Florida should put it through its paces.
Because of your meticulousness, I've learned more in this one video than all I've watched prior. Am planning to get a Springbar tent soon. Why are there different heights with those sidebars? (Thanks for mentioning the 4th hole!) Thank you for your reply!

At the end, I noticed you had a photo of the tent in snow. How does this tent do in cold/winter temps? What did you use for heat? ALSO, how long have you had it set up in one place? Informative vid! Thanks! The awning on the tent early on seemed to sag in the center. Just wondering how to deal with rain, seems like it might pool and cause problems. Guessing the answer is to take it down when rain is expected but I would think it would be nice to sit in front of the tent during rain, protected by the awning.
If it looks like it's going to rain I will just lower the two awning poles down a foot or two so the water will drain off the front of it. Never had a problem with it pooling. Thanks for your comment!
I wonder if I could pick your brain a little? I've seen some Asians set these up differently and I can see how maybe that would be better. Basically, they stake the corners, raise the tent, and then put on the stakes in between the corners. That way they can maximize then tension in the fabric of the tent without having to pull on it excessively. I bought mine over the winter and haven't gotten to pitch it yet but I was wondering if you'd we've seen that done and either way, what you might think of it. I wouldn't hold you to it either way. It just seems like you've put up enough tents to have some insight that I'd very much appreciate. Please and thank you 😁

Have you ever been concerned that someone may steal the stuff out of your tent when you ride off for the day? We have bikes that we will keep in the tent during the day when not riding them but I just wandered how much theft goes on in State Parks?
It hasn't happened yet, but yes, I am always worried. I try not to leave for to long and when I do I always set up a couple trail cams hidden in the trees that cover the camp area just in case something does go missing.
