I'm so excited you're playing through Final Fantasy Tactics. I'm excited you get to experience it finally. Do you stream yourself playing it? I'm sure people would love to watch you play it for first time.
Funnily, FFTactic's Charge time battle and FFX's Conditional Turn based battle behave fairly similarly, where your specfic actions affect your next upcoming turn in the battle. Conceptually they are almost the same. They even have the same Acronym (CTB). Chances are if you love FFX' CTB so much you'll find yourself right as rain with Tactics' Charge time system.
@@pyguy7 I used to stream lots on Twitch but I just don't have the time anymore unfortunately! I might try to get back into it soon but just depends on life stuff! But super excited to get into tactics - I can see the similarities with FFX!
FF10 was the last final fantasy and best fighting system.
Certainly ATB, FFXI and CT are my favorites. FFXI is extremely rewarding and tactical. CT is very tactical and brings a unique flavor to FF. ATB = Always The Best.
I think FF10's system was my favorite. I think your assessment of it being "puzzle combat" is spot on. I liked that I was able to sit there and think a bit before doing anything. Being able to swap in your backup party members was really great. I never felt like I was leaving anyone unlevelled. Everything had its purpose.
Glad to hear you're getting into FF Tactics. It's one of my favorites!
indeed, there's some things that pull it down tho(it's my favourite as well but let's be real)
the replayability isn't that good in terms of challenge unless you want to nerf yourself, as you get the strategies to beat every enemy by the second or third playthrough. and super late your party becomes the same 3 characters with some use for other two(and there's poor lulu and kimahri who are useless) and it's pretty much quick hit, quick hit, attack heels, quick hit and there it goes
if the game really gets a remake, and it stays the same combat, i hope they improve the super late stuff to be more strategic and less brute force your way out of the enemies
@@EricMcLovin13 I'm ok with the replayability not being that great. My backlog is way too big to replay any game a 3rd time lol
"He's mentioning FFXIV! Finally!"
*Mentions 1.0 from launch and says you manage battles while they auto battle.*
"Nevermind, hes mentioning some other game."
Yeeep. I tried! 🤣
Yeah putting XI and XIV combat together is wild.
"Your char autobattles while you eat pizza"
Meanwhile, my ninja opener. . .
@@Chelaxim Would have made more sense to leave them off his list.
Ouch, I honestly adore and love the paradigm system of FF13. I think it's one of the draws and high points of the game. I find the paradigm changing addicting and fluid when you get in depth with it.
I would personally put 7R system at the 1st spot. Even the biggest haters of the Remake trilogy love the combat. But X is definitely the best and fastest turn based combat system in the series.
I prefer ff7R it feels so good when you switch characters ❤❤
Ff7R has some of the best combat of any game ever in my book. Rewards skill and very satisfying while also remaining user friendly for new players
Agreed. FF7 Remake is one of the rare RPGs where I actually seek out the combat and look forward to every battle. It’s that good.
Oh god, not me. There are a few things I dislike about 7R's combat :
- ATB only raises decently when attacking so even with classic combat on, you have to button-mash and I HATE button-mashing (stupid AI staying on defense for ages and ATB doesn't increase when guarding. I'd like to use an ATB action before snow falls, thank you...).
- Enemy attacks can cancel your ATB actions and in a battle system so fast and chaotic, with no alerts that an enemy gets their «turn», good luck preventing that from time to time, especially when you're fighting more than 1 enemy. It is SO infuriating to completely lose your action.
- There is no gambit system to program your team's ATB usage, a big downgrade from FFXII. You have to either switch characters or pause the action by pressing R2 or L2 to make them do what you want. It's annoying to have to pause the action or switch characters manually constantly, especially with that camera movement that goes from one char to another. Even though it's not an efficient way to play because you sometimes want to use your ATB charges at the right time or use more than one, I wish classic mode automatically entered the pause that allows you to enter commands when someone has an ATB gauge so you don't have to ogle your ATB gauges at the bottom of the screen. It's an action battle system in which you need to watch the enemies to dodge and block, so don't make me keep my eyes at the bottom-right corner so I can press a button when someone has one or more ATB gauges ffs.
The lack of improvements from Remake about these is the reason why I didn't buy Rebirth even though I have a ps5. I'll play Rebirth on pc to play with mods that improve the battle system a bit, like I did with Remake. In its Remake / Rebirth state, I'd definitely put most other battle systems above it. I really, really don't understand the hard-on that many players have with 7R's battle system and can only hope they finally improve it for the 3rd part (Reunion?) - at least how the classic mode works, but I won't hold my breath. I agree that FFX is the goat though.
@@armorvil fair enough. I especially agree on gambits. Some battles would be A LOT easier with tuned AI behavior.
Enemy moves canceling abilities, I don't remember how bad it was in remake, but in rebirth if you see a named move above an enemy's name then it's usually a good idea to move or wait. Also, higher level magic and abilities are a lot harder to interrupt.
ATB also generates insanely fast in Rebirth with the use of synergy skills and certain equipment. See a projectile coming at you? R1+Circle to Counterfire and you do good damage and get an instant ATB bar.
11 and 14’s battle systems are so different it is crazy that you would lump them together.
Rebirth and X are the best IMO.
X is good for traditional systems and Rebirth is good for action but still maintains the menu based elements
Definitely! Best of both worlds I think.
FFXIII battle system is soooo good. Shame to see it so low. Also to me, FFX-2 has the best battle system.
Finally, some good opinions.
You have good taste.
You know if its not FF7 its not going to be at the top of the list, lol
YES
Love 13, love the way you can manipulate the AIs actions and the nitry gritty of hiw fast certain characters animations are, biggest problem with the game and I think the reason people dog it is the pacing. They take so long to take the training wheels off and just let you have at it. That game will absolutely destroy you at the higher levels but the meme of "auto battle" lives on because it takes 30 hours to get there 😂
I haven't played all the Final Fantasy titles, but I can say the 7R battle system has been my absolute favorite to play. I just picked up Remake and beat it recently and I can't wait to move on to Rebirth.
Remake was great but the improvements they made for Rebirth battle system - soooo good. It's a step up in a way. I loved it!
I really love that u include tactics, its my fav game and you can do some much with its battle system. Thank you and great job!
I'm almost opposite from you....
1. FF12 ZA
2. FF13-2
3. FF13-3 LR
4.FF13
5.FF10-2
6.FF7R
7.FF10
8.FF9
9.FF14
My thing is i like games that make me think, puzzles, figure out how to get past an area, preferably without grinding and using items. That is why ff12 is my favorite, you really ought to try playing the game at max speed and test you knowledge and strategy. Ff12 makes pressing X to select attack, so pointless. We know out general statagy going into a fight, so why make it take so long. For these reason i almost dont want to put ff9 on this list. If all FF games had a optional gambit system my life would be complete haha. The only time gambit system dont work is when bosses have very special conditions like how pressure and stagger works in ff7r. Also on that not, FF13 games still have the best stagger system
Ff13s battle system was wonderful
Really good list actually, the only difference is that i would put ff7r on 1st or 2nd, really like 12 as well. Agree with everything else
Thank you for making a video like this. It’s rare to see people devote videos to the battle systems in these games. My personal favorite is FF7 Remake/Rebirth’s battle system. It’s not only favorite battle system in any Final Fantasy game, but it’s my favorite battle system in any video game ever, period. It’s got everything from traditional FF games like party member control, buffs/debuffs, ATB, status ailments, elemental weakness etc. I also love the materia customization loadouts as you can make each character a class if you want. It’s like a job system. I pray they use this combat system as a template going forward for future FF titles and not 16s.
Anyways thanks for the wonderful video man. You just gained a new subscriber 👍🏾
Thanks for the kind words!! The FF7R battle system is awesome. Perfect hybrid of old and new FF gameplay for sure!
I 100% agree. FF16 is cool sure. It's a bit of dmc watered down but bosse battles feel really good to fight. Most of the fights just feel like bullying the enemies tho ahahahaha. But ff7 r is just perfect, every enemy has a different weakness that you need to exploit with your characters, you have parry, counters and dodge. You have uncountable abilities and materia that you can combo to create a multitude of builds. My aerith in rebirth was basically just a support character with her wards, RED XIII was the crowd damage dealer, and Cloud was the heavy hitter. Caith Sith was a lot of fun to play with too, his x hold down attack was super effective at builiding stagger. Yuffie was also really fun with her aerial combos, magic, auto attack, clones. To me the more barebones were really tifa and barret but they were still very fun. I can't wait to have a dragoon playstyle with Cid. After fighting dragoons on ffxvi my hype is gigantic. I'm very curious to find out what they're doing with Vincent too, he can really have a completelly diferent gameplay from the rest of the cast.
number 1 is easily FF7 rebirth
Excellent content, v happy I found your channel
Since June 2023 I have played and gotten the platinum trophy on FF1-10, FF10-2, and FF12 as well as FF7 Remake/Rebirth, Crisis Core and FF16. Just have to finish FF13 Trilogy and FF15 then I’ll go all in on FF14 just in time for the graphical update on PS5. I’ll be using a different job for each expansion. For Realm Reborn I started with Paladin during my Trial run.
I think I might be the only one who really enjoyed 16’s battle system.
I loved it! It was awesome for what it was.
You’re not the only one
I think FF7 rebirth's combat is a perfect mix of action and menu selection for the old turn based feel. I also think this is how a Final Fantasy should be. They might have created the perfect JRPG gameplay.
Yup the combat system in the FF7 Remake trilogy so far is the best in the series. It’s so good that even purists that don’t like the direction of the Remake still praise the combat system 😂. That’s how good it is. I hope it’s the future of the franchise
That's it!🙂
7R combat is a near perfect fusion of action and ATB. It rewards skillful play, makes every party member unique, and it’s fun.
My only complaint with the 7R system is how slow non controlled character ATB builds 😂
@@feircy well if they didn’t do it this way no one would be inclined to switch characters. The devs want you to switch as much as possible. In fact they stated that they added the synergy attacks in Rebirth to ensure players switch more often. That’s why you’ll notice that the synergy gauge fills much faster when you switch characters. It is a party based Final Fantasy after all 😅
Chef's kiss to that simultaneous ascension limit and octoslash moment in the video. So awesome!
Fantastic video! I love how it was done by battle system instead of game - makes sense but a nice touch! I agree with you on most but I’ll admit I LOVED the battle system for FF13! It’s a big reason I liked the game which I know is weird lol
Yea FF12 straight up has the best auto-combat battle system ever made in all of gaming, it straight up teaches programming. FF12 made me realise that all previous turn based combat FFs are just doing the same thing over and over again, might as well just automate and optimise them with programming.
More games of every genre should learn from the Gambit system for their auto combat aspects instead of having AI that does random and ineffective actions.
I wouldn't mind seeing the gambit system appear in something again! It was cool to mess around and try to get it right.
Agreed. FFX combat is one of the best turn-based combat systems ever. Switching characters during combat blew my mind when I first played it.
Going for overkills also is very rewarding ❤
EXCELLENT rating system here, my friend! I personally love the old-school FF style battle systems, but I've also really grown to love FF12's, especially after going through the Zodiac Age.
I also love the new Action-ATB system in the FF7 Remakes so much. It's a perfect blend of old and modern. I think this system encourages me to use it like they intended the most anyway. all the others I tend to find ways to cheese in one way or another.
Yes! Rebirth combat is best of the best honestly. So good.
No Final Fantasy X-2? It’s the ATB system mixed with XIII’s combat.
Ya i sorta agree, tho added the stagger bar and ravenger class makes it ff13 quite fun. And debuffing and buffing feels good in ff13
Ffx2 battle system is one of the best, but requires a bit of love for the garment grid system in tandem with the ATB to get that feeling.
An interesting aspect of the combat system in Final Fantasy 2 and 11 is that the character's skill level in each aspect of combat determines their effectiveness to a degree no other FF title has addressed.
For example, if your character swings a sword, how much damage that sword does, or even if you hit with it, is determined by the skill level in swords that character has, and the character's level of skill in that weapon only goes up by using said weapon. This concept is extended to almost all aspects of combat for the heroes in 2, and the player character in 11. Offense, defense, weaponry, magic, it all rides on the individual skill level of what you're specifically doing. The more you do a thing, the better at the thing you are.
Underrated channel. Excellent content
Thank you! Too kind!!
I love FFXs combat. I did not enjoy how you had to swap in characters for them to get exp. I wish everybody just got exp like FF7 rebirth does
Yeah it's a bit annoying but it is what it is. I don't mind grinding for certain characters when needed!
There's a mod for the PC version that fixes that
I'm sorry but XIII combat is really underated.
Agreed.
Agreed
I love it but its issue is how long it takes to open up. It reallt takes off once you get full access to the classes, if that happened sooner more people might have stuck with it. Plus I actually enjoy the healing after every fight when it means that every fight is a legitimate threat
It's so satisfying finding the right paradigms for the right enemies and get in that five star rank.
@@feircyI'm actually in the minority of having it open up so late the fact that certain characters can only use certain paradigms made them feel more unique than when they could use all six classes.
Another bangin' ranking video! Look at those views climb, woohoo! 🎉
Crazy!!!!
ffxii masamune + genji gloves is so satisfying
14 mmo doesn’t “auto battle” i play on PS5 and im constantly having to make decisions and navigate through commands mapped to the controller. its super engaging and probably the closest thing we have to original ATB
It's also dramatically different from FFXI, to the point that it's pretty embarrassing to lump them together.
I still yearn for a game to scratch the same itch X does. Best combat system, characters, music, world, etc.
I know it's locked away on apple arcade for now but honestly give Fantasian a try. It's got a similar battle system and it's a Sakaguchi game with Uematsu doing the music. I wish they'd port it already!
FFX is number 1 for me as well. Off-note, I also love the sphere grid and the amount of freedom it gives the player. Great video!
As a more strategically minded player, I prefer time to think and consider all my options as I manipulate the battlefield in my favor, and that’s why I could never fully enjoy ATB, as it always felt like they just put a time-limit on you. It was more stressful than engaging, even in wait mode, and waiting for my bars to fill while enemies pummeled me wasn’t my idea of fun. I absolutely loved Final Fantasy X’s CTB system for this reason. It gave me all the time to think, and I knew well ahead of time what the turn order was going to be, and had utilities that let me change that order, adding a layer of strategy to every action.
Not to mention the summons were controllable in FFX, and being able to swap party members in and out was so useful, not only for strategy, but for leveling the party evenly. It baffles me that they never brought this system back. Heck, even X-2 went back to ATB afterwards, which disappointed me. If they ever do another truly turn-based entry, bring back the CTB system, Square Enix.
Wow you’re the first person I’ve heared someone NOT like FFXIII battle system.
It has issues mostly how the leader can get focused on and result in a game over while every other party member is at full HP. I also think it’s so fast that you can’t really input commands manually forcing you to use the auto command.
@@saltyk9869yeah, it was definitely made for seasoned fans whereas Final Fantasy 10 is simpler (like to a huge fault)
13 battle system is top tier and probably the best. Shame it came in an unpopular entry.
It’s actually what the 7 remakes were based on main difference being in 7 you only control one character. 13 it’s the whole team.
What i take from this video is that most of the combat systems of the series are pretty darn good, as the lowest ranked (FFXIII) is already quite excellent (and probably deserves to be much higher up). I haven't played XV yet (yes I know, it went out ages ago) but I always heard people saying it was a "meh" in term of combat system, whereas I think XIII was really fresh, fast-paced while still requiring some input and fast reaction from the player (whereas XII, as good as it is, can still make the player pretty passive during regular fights with well thought gambits (and to be fair, the x4 speed of the Zodiac age is mandatory to appreciate grinding in XII)
I'd recommend checking out XV now. The royal edition is the way to go and it's a great experience overall!
@Erek Ladd, I know, I bought the royal edition, just didn't find the time to play it yet !
Remembering ffxv combat system makes me want to vomit. It's a mess like the whole game. Holding x to keep attacking is one of the most idiotic ideas I've ever seen in an action game. Every weapon plays the same, MAGIC IS A FUCKING CONSUMABLE GRENADE. Enemies don't react to your attacks, the parry and dodge are a fucking mess. The only REDEEMING feature is the party attacks you can command but then again, FF7 remake does it 200% better in every way. I really wished I liked ffxv, the world is beautiful, the map is too, everything looks good from outside when looking at it but when you start interacting with the game everything feels like a chore, from going from a to b, to doing sidequests, to the combat, to the horrible dialogue most of the time and the story that just kind of happens and you don't really start to mind it until the game is in it's end.
I'm not as extensive as you are in my FF experience, but from what I am familiar with, I'm pretty much agreeing across the board.
Oh boy wait until you start using the artimagician in FFT. broken ability love it
I've heard many things!! Can't wait to check it out.
Great list! For me, FF7R is number 1. My favourite combat from any game ever.
I also really enjoyed XIII. It's the most intense of all the menu based battle systems. I would put it higher, probably just above XII.
Yeah 7R is insanely good. I love it. Easily the best modern take on a FF battle system!
First time viewer. Interesting takes, I agree with 90% of the list, though. Swap 1 and 2 and that's my list. While I grew up on ATB and CTB, what Remake, Rebirth and Re-whatever it'll be called is doing is just as strategic in my opinion as the CTB. Though, nothing tops Haste'd Quick Attack spam is hard to top, being fair.
Thanks for stopping in! I did flip flop on 1 & 2 when making this video but settled on CTB in the end. I just like the strategy of it! But in contrast I LOVE the FF7R stuff. Square really nailed it with that!
@@ErekLadd Square hasn't really failed on much, but especially music (that was a good video). I know, gameplay some of the later ones are divisive, but people are still talking about this amazing series, so it can't be that bad. Consider myself subbed. Good takes, you know?
My top 3 looks exactly the same! I really hope that FF XVII will use some kind of evolution from the FF VII R system. If you like the FFX CTB system, Trails might be the right thing for you, as it mixes the system with a little bit of SRPG. A shoutout to the FF X-2 ATB system, as at least in my memory it's the best classic ATB system.
Yeah lots of people are recommending the Trails series to me in the comments here! I'll take a look and see where the best place to start is!
FFT is one of if not the most influential yet criminally underrated mainline titles. Easily in my top 10 games of all time and I was there for the PS1 original alongside FFVII og and many others. FFT was so ahead of its time and the influence it had on future titles mainly that of FFXII, FFT advanced, and FFXI. If you are playing on IOS, Android or PSP/Vita you are on the definitive version imo.
So glad you’re getting around to playing through FFT. Easily one of my favorites in the franchise and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!
Same!!! So far so good!
Just found your channel and gotta say I love your content! I prefer ffxi over ffxiv mainly because of the customization. Normal attacks have a bigger impact. You have jobs and builds that focus on regular attacks and ones that focus on weapon skills or magic.
First and gee I wonder who among the community suggested you to cover this topic 🤔👀
I jest, I jest 🤣. Good list, and no complaints here, surprised with the bottom pick another con with it, was the whole Leader death = game over system, which can be annoying especially during some bosses that can do Insta-kill moves, something that FF13-2 course corrected and had you the option to switch between leaders, and if one dies, you automatically switch to the other one and the infamous auto battle of the game selecting the commands for you. But alas it’s no biggie
My personal favourites would definitely be tho CTB, ATB, Action, Real x ATB Hybrid and CS despite the flaws mentioned
Leader Death = Game Over isn't bad.
@@redmagelala it’s not entirely bad, tho it can get annoying at times.
@@madkaiser4887 That's fair. If it wasn't for Dragon Quest, I'd agree.
I think you should had included FFX-2.
Fanservice aside, the combat was extraordinary!
Turn based and active at the same time (and not either-or).
That is aside the whole job class system that can be changed mid combat and all the customization. Incredible!
Agreed on top 3. I would switch 2 and 1 but excellent ranking.
FFX’s battle system needs a comeback for sure!
10 is the GOAT
Goes as fast or as slow as you want, really can’t beat that.
The tonal whiplash in speed going from 10 to 10-2 always makes me laugh 😂
You got the same as mine!
Erek's voice makes my brain kum. You should do ASMR on a secret channel. Maybe even tying your exp with final fantasy to inspire characters, think "Boyfriend ASMR - Tavern Bard" or "Paladin heals my wounds."
Why Stranger of Paradise Souslike combat not included?
mainline games only
I think my top 3 would be X, XII and XIII. I do really enjoy them and less stressful than ATB. Great list tho.
you just need to select Wait mode in the menu and take the habit of entering a submenu or clicking "attack" without selecting a target to have all the time you need to think about your next action in the ATB systems of 4/5/6/7/8/9/10-2.
Zero stress that way.
@@armorvil sure, i know that. But still i enjoy the other more
14s way different now, i recommend revisiting it, x will always be my fav, I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed it until I finished it
My only gripe about FF7R’s combat system is a lack of proper dodge so ranged enemies can’t just take potshots at you that will chip you even with guard. Especially in harder modes where you can’t really just potion after some fights.
Imo FF7R combat system is a huge leap in terms of modernizing “turn based” system. Pair that with the vast customization options of materia system. Yep, It’s definitely my no. 1 pick.
100% agree. I flip flopped a few times when making this list for the #1 spot so I could go either way honestly.
I thought VIIR was the most game play I've ever experienced. Loved X back then. I feel like X's battle format and character development with the grid allowed for the optional battles to be that much harder. Puzzle does sum it up. I liked IX's ATB the most of that era because the lower enemy HP made it so the enemies put up a short but aggressive fight. XII's system was okay, but I respect the innovation. Exploration was terrifying if you got near an enemy you had to run away from.
Rank How Characters' Growth in Final Fantasy: Leveling, Materia, Sphere Grid, etc...
Very happy with the top 4.
All these years, and I've yet to look at the "Turn Order" in FFX, lol. Am I the only one?
The turn order was paramount for me as the view is extremely helpful for deciding your next action, as each action comes with a delay displayed in the turn order. It allows for more depth in your decision-making process, such as 'Should I heal now?' or 'Can I still attack?' with the enemy's turn approaching, 'Should I defend?' etc.
I agree with your picks expect I would swap XVI and the VII Remake systems.
Bro 10s combat was so addictive
Im in total agreement with your list! FFX has the perfect traditional feel of jrpg, while remake trilogy combat is the ultimate modernization.
Yeah great list. Love these rankings!
I mostly agree with your list. Overall I actually like every Combat system in the FF series. 7 Rebirth is my absolute favorite though, followed by X, VII and XIV. XIVs combat gets signifantly better the further you're in the game. Skill rotations require a lot of focus and learning the bosses mechanics and moves is so incredibly fun that I think the level of satisfaction you can get out of this combat system is almost unmatched.
All combat systems are good in their own way for sure. It's lots of fun trying to master them. Thank you for suggesting this video as well!!!
I probably have some rough disagreements in the middle, but your top picks are spot-on. FFX is my favorite battle system also, and FF7R is the better modernization effort.
Actually really like 10-2's battle system. Thought it was really fluid and laid the groundworks for what 13 tried
Out of the games I’ve played my favorite is easily ff16’s which isn’t too surprising considering one of my favorite games is devil may cry 5
Good list. My top 3 would basically be the same, but in different order:
1. FF7R
2. FF4-9
3. FFX
I just played and beat FFX the other day and towards the end I was just using Aeons for the last few super bosses and brute force the game that way
7 remake combat is not only the best ff combat system imo it’s also the best combat system I’ve ever played in all gaming!!! So much fun
I mostly agree. It really is a shame that X was the only game in the series to have that style.
X-2 also had an amazing version of the ATB, I'd like to see that comeback, as well.
I was like "it has to be X". And it was. 7R is also amazing, so great choices there.
First time final fantasy 1 and 2 weren't on the bottom of the list😂
Right? 🤣
FFXIV combat is honestly amazing, but only the people who want to challenge themselves will get the most out of it. Savage and Ultimate are what keep me coming back.
100% agree on FFX's system being the best. I have zero interest in those systems where things happen automatically. FFXII was almost an exception because of how much control of the automation it gave you. As a software engineer, I got really into it at the time, but as the game went on it would feel more and more like a hassle to set everything up. There's a reason why I keep going back to FFX every few years. Nothing beats that combat system imo.
Tactics goes right to the top for me. The combat pretty much IS the game. There isn't so much exploration because there isn't really a open world like you get in the other games. Whenever you are controlling your characrer it's in a battle.
The job system gives you a huge amount of variety on how to build your party, letting you mix and match abilities from the different jobs.
FF13 and 13-2 battle systems are so good man why is it so low people just hated on the series just because
Id flip 1 and 2 personally but i agree overall
mostly agreeing, the combat system in XIII, is absolutely magnificent if given half a chance
Putting the gambit system that low is insane literally one of the best systems in any jrpg that’s the only issue for me
Of the ones you mentioned on this list, but by game. Haven't played MMOs, sadly.

ffv and ffx-2 have great jobs systems
I mostly agree. They used the ffx system with Opera Omninia and maybe Brave Exvious. I wished they used it for FF7 Ever Crisis especially since it is on steam. Prefer that over the auto atb mess it is now. I'm sticking around for the story though since there is original content that is making an appearance in the ff7 remake. Glenn came from the First Soldier story mode in EC. You should check it out the cutscenes at least if you haven't.
X-2 feels so good once you get goin
I agree. Especially your #1
You didn’t even mention the game with the best battle system in the series: the speed ATB system from FFX-2. It combines the traditional ATB with the party-changing mechanic of FFX (utilized here to change jobs on the fly) and speeds up everything to Action RPG pace.
Easily the best battle system in the series, and also its last truly great one.
The only caveat is many people don’t like or don’t understand the garment grid system, which you need to use in tandem with the battle system.
Who is the artist that did the Auron and Barret drawings in the thumbnail?
It's the character art from War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius! Beautiful art!
@@ErekLadd thanks
I really like the idea and the way FF16s combat works. Only if it was t so repetitive. You only have one party member to control and you keep using the same attacks over and over. The Remake of FF7 had it right with sll the differences in characters and all the abilities. I really would like to see that system on a new story.
With all due respect, friend, but I think 12's battle system is superior to 16's and 10's, and the aging turn-based system [FF I - FF III]. For me, it would be placed second on this tier list, especially when played in active mode. Makes you think fast!
Furthermore, the gambit system is very intelligent and does not prove tiring to use. Greetings from Brazil
Superior to 10 I don't know, it's a matter of preference, but yeah I agree with you that it's superior to most others, especially 7R's. The Gambit system really was brilliant.
That’s not really how ff14’s combat works. There’s no auto battling, its probably the deepest combat in the series, like a turn based system where each turn is a rolling 2.5 seconds with abilities interspersed between each regular attack in your combos to line up with 1 and 2 minute party buffs with situational awareness and movement, requiring evasion and interaction with specific mechanics which force you to keep performing your complex dance while making sure you read the encounter and respond as a party. Its a number 1 for me.
Man the XIII hate has gotten really old at this point.. Yeah the game has a lot of flaws and I might even agree that it's one of the worse ff games but it's combat system was innovative and interesting and if you gave it a real chance it was really fun. Still is actually
It takes too long to get deep and rewarding
@@DRAGONOFDESTINYZ Exactly my issue with it!
Once you put final fantasy xiii in that spot I really couldn’t take your list serious but you have your opinion I’m just saying it’s a strong hateful Final Fantasy 13 when I really think it’s a top three combat system if anything
I agree with this rank...
I know it’s not a mainline entry, but my favorite by far would be FF Tactics with 13 being next. The battle system in 13 is SO GOOD!!! I don’t understand how people don’t like it! If you just always use auto battle you aren’t doing it right!
Lightning returns has a combat system worth mentioning. 16 being below 1-3 is simply incorrect, and I disagree with the remake system only being at 2. I personally think it's at 1
Currently playing through FFX again. Love the battle system, the only annoying part of it is you HAVE to use the character in order to gain experience. It makes sense, but it is annoying.
I haven’t played Xii, and Xiii yet, but I seen videos, and I know damm well those combat way better than ATP. ATP being so high is crazy honestly.
I wouldn’t have 12 up so high…but the ATB system with is my #1 for me. Also all the action combat ff games are not my cup of tea. I blame my up bringing.
Definitely comes down to what you grew up with! I love the ATB system though, it's a great way to play.
As a Honkai Star Rail player, I didn't know conditional turn based combat is from Final Fantasy X. Great list!👍
