    Answering these questions made me realize how much I really don't think about my hair, and then I started thinking about how because of the nature of my career and work -- not having to think about my hair is a luxury. I think I might talk about that in another video. Lemme know if you would find that interesting or nah...

One day I just got up out of the blue and started my locs. It's been 2yrs since and I'm not looking back. I live in Toronto, and the first time I got an "Empress" greeting, I was elated. Hello. I enjoyed your video and can relate to much of what you have said. I too have locs, but they are not semi free form. I twist mine. However I don't twist them every time I wash them. Like you, I don't like to have to think about my hair. And like you, the less I do to my hair and scalp, the healthier they are. The thought of cutting my locs gives me a small sense of anxiety because then I would have to think about how to style my hair every day. :-) I also at one time use to have so many scalp issues. Change in weather, pollen, ingredients in shampoo would just irritate my scalp. Now I use Dr Woods Baby Mild Castile Soup. I don't think I will ever change. Once I find a product that works, I am not changing. No more worrying about shampoo. For conditioner I have a small spray bottle that I use, half rose water and half jojoba oil. Shake it up and spray. I am good after that. Its soo freeing. Love it. My locs haven't hindered my career either. Thank you for the video.

    For acting, you said you would shave your head to be able to portray more characters.
    You reasoning involved the concept of locs as a statement or a journey of self-expression which an play or movie character may not be experiencing.
    But when I think of actresses such as Julia Roberts or Diane Lane, I don’t recall them shaving their head to play a character.
    Why should a head of locs be treated differently from any other head full of hair ?

    • @hallease
      @hallease  Před 4 lety +1

      But they've all had to do things to their hair for a role (dye it, cut it, alter it). Locs, I feel, can't be easily manipulated. So for me, I feel, the equivalent would be shaving so I can be a blank slate. Similarly, it's one of the reasons I also hesitate to get any tattoos

    • @rozchristopherson648
      @rozchristopherson648 Před 4 lety

      Hallease In “Ghosts of Mississippi” and “Corinna Corinna,” Whoopi Goldberg wore wigs to cover her locs for the part. I can think of only three actresses who shaved their heads but that is because the role required them to do so. Demi Moore in “G.I. Jane,” and Judith Light and Cynthia Nixon in “Wit” where the main character is battling ovarian cancer.
      I can see where an actress would cut or dye their hair for a role. And of course wear wigs. But completely shaven ?!?Demi more said she regretted shaving her head for GI Jane and wouldn’t do it again due to scalp issues.
      Anyway, I think that if you really want to be a “tabula rasa” or blank slate, you must do that from the inside out, not the outside in.
      Best wishes. 🙏

    Love your videos! I have a question that no one has ever asked/addressed in anything I've watched or read. Towards the beginning of your video you wrap that one patch or loose hair around your loc. I have that same problem but it's all across the front of my head. I've been locd for a little over 2 years and the more time that goes by the worse it gets. I wash my hair once a week and basically do 2 strand twists with the loose hair and another loc. If it helps to answer, I started with 2 strand twists, semi freeform, have 4a type hair, and have 76 locs. Any help is appreciated 😊

    How dare you not be all the things people assume about you - I thought your name was not how you pronounced it - Like your easy going style.

    Do you ever use steam to moisturize your locs or before styling?

      Every 6 months or so I use Neutrogena anti residue shampoo for 2 washes to make sure my locs are build up free. It's hella drying but it works.

    “A dime piece”? Really? That’s how an adult male refers to a woman?
