Thanks for your video's, Paul. They're very interesting and informative. I really enjoyed the interview with Steve, particularly when he went a little bit into why we play trombones in the first place. I'm a decent amateur who seeks out these vids for the same reason as everyone else: To learn how to express myself better musically through the trombone. That seems like the logical reason, but, so many of the trombone instructional videos out there seem to make technique itself the goal. It's not how to sing, or, how musically you can play. It's how high, how fast, how many notes can you put into a measure, do you know your modal scales, etc. A lot of the tromboning on these videos seems to be as much athleticism as musicality, done simply to dazzle an audience with how much time was put into doodle tonguing, or high note wood-shedding. To my amateur ears, though, there is a sameness in the trombone playing of all of these monster technicians. I'd bet, to the casual listener, they all sound the same. I guess if I had a question, it would be: In the mist of all of this technique, how does one express themselves individually? How can you find your own voice when the emphasis is not on singing, but on simply hitting the notes? Those are the questions I ask myself, and maybe we have to find out own answers to that one...Again, thanks, Paul. I really appreciate you, Christopher Bill and all my other favorite internet players out there who are getting the trombone some much needed exposure.

It is just an amplifier. A complex yet strangely satisfying amplifier. An amplifier my neighbours love. ;)

Paul, how do you get around professionals like this? Does having the CZcams channel help because you can tell them it's an interview?
