Hi Steve. I think all your cons are why I love ocala. But as long as home prices stay cheap you won't have a problem.
I agree, these are some of the reasons my family likes Ocala too!
Exactly.
I love Ocala. I moved here to take care of my boyfriend's mom and stayed after she passed. I am here for one thing and one thing only, HORSES. We live rurally but only 5 miles from the nearest Publix. I love Ocala!
Glad to hear it and I agree itâs nice to live outside the noise but be close
Great video as always STEVE I think with the five places that you mentioned if someone is moving to Ocalla; they just have to enjoy a nice drive to an amusement park, for example; and then drive back home; I think that is the number one reason to move to Ocalla is because itâs not overcrowded and when you want to go somewhere, do a day trip or a weekend trip and then you come back to peaceful OcalaâŠ.
đșđžđșđžđđđđâïžâïžđđđđâïžâïž
I couldn't agree more, Jimmy! My family and I love it's location and are okay with the 1.5 hour drive to the coast or Orlando.
This is my hometown. Itâs growing a lot. But Iâm happy itâs not ever gonna be huge.
Same! Except my hometown is Buffalo. My wife is from Ocala.
Until the Villages swallows it up
Thanks for this video, Ocala needs to stop growing, it's been getting pretty over crowded the last few years especially.
We like the expansion, but I hear you.
NOW THAT YOU CAN WORK FROM HOME, THIS IS WHY ALL THE HOUSING PRICES ARE WAY UP, 30 PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE THAT MOVED TO FLORIDA WORK FROM HOME
We're literally like an hour and a half from Orlando and an hour and a half from Tampa and two hours from Jacksonville and two hours from St Augustine. Also 30 minutes from Gainesville, an hour from Daytona, like an hour away from Crystal River. We literally live in the middle of everything.
Yes! It's the best. Still close to action, but lower cost of living.
Another thing that people who are thinking about moving near Ocala should seriously consider is the utility rates. The City brags about having low property taxes but they charge big bucks for electricity to make up the difference.
The city electric is pricey (depending on what youâre used to) For a 2000 sqft home in city limits for 4 people we are averaging $350 in the summer and $250 in the winter. However, outside of the city limits, electric is more affordable. Thank you for your comment.
IF YOUR 65 OR OLDER, YOU GET A DOUBE EXEMTION FOR PROPERTY TAXES, IN 2023, DUE TO THE WAR, NATURAL HAS HAS GONE UP 2 OR 3 TIMES WHAT IT NORMALLY IS, AND SINCE ALL ELECTRICY IN FLORIDA IS NOW GENERATED BY NATURAL GAS, YOU BILL WILL BE AT LEAST 50 TO 100 DOLLARS HIGHER THEN NORMAL IN OUR SHORT WINTER,
I thought I was going to watch this and regret my decision to buy my house here. Nope! Still good with it đ. However, very informative! Thank you!
Glad to hear it! đ
Why did I move to Ocala, Florida? I don't know. I don't like the heat. I don't go out all summer. When I walk to my mail box I get a sunburn. I have 1 cousin here. I like her alot. We get together about once or twice a month. It's much less expensive here than on long, Island, NY. I've been here 3 years and I don't like it. I will go back to NY if I can find a reasonably priced home on long Island.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience, Helen. What kinds of things are you into?
Reason # 6: sinkholes. Please discuss sinkholes. We were all set to look seriously into moving to Ocala, until we investigated sinkholes in central Florida. We are disappointed, to say the least, because Ocala sounds perfect for us in every other way. How much of a problem are sinkholes in Ocala?
Sinkholes are a FL thing, not an Ocala-specific thing. I donât know anyone whoâs ever been devastatingly affected by a sinkhole nor does anyone in my wifeâs family (theyâre all native to Ocala). I completely understand why this seems so scary to someone who isnât from the area, but for most itâs just another thing to be aware of (like hurricanes and sunny weather)
NO PROBLEM IN OCALA, MOST SINK HOLES ARE DOWN BELOW ORLANDO, AND THE WEST COAST
@@domcizek That's good to know. We're looking into Fla too. We want to be somewhat close to Disney. Ocala is a possibility.
Those are the reasons WHY I would choose Ocala! Thanks
We like these things about Ocala, too.
Hey Steve, what towns have better utility cost in the surrounding area of Ocala
SECO energy historically has the lowest energy costs. They cover random areas of the county. If you go to the city of Ocala website to their utility map you can actually see which neighborhoods are covered by which provider, itâs super handy!
That's one place I'd never move back to
Where'd you move to?
DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS, IS THE WORD
looking for a place in Ocala near or on a lake. Can't wait to move there! 2 bdrm 2 bath single floor home
Thanks for the comment, Shirley. If you give me a call or email with your contact information I can get some more information about your search criteria and start a search 352-598-0847 steven@thebillingtonteam.com
REMEMBER, ALL LAKES HAVE ALLIGATORS IN THEM
Steve I love the videos. Even listing the cons you give off a very positive vibe. My wife and I just bought a new construction house in Ocala and will be moved in by July from NY. Just wanna say keep up the great work!!
Hey Gerardo! Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate that. Congratulations on your new home, I hope you love Ocala!
How did you like Ocala?
ok every theme park and beaches is close to Ocala its the middle and public transport is pointless we have uber and that's it
Love being in the middle of the state! We do have public transportation/bus service, but only in the city limits.
im from Kentucky and i love the lay back small town area, were looking to move down that way and i think its a perfect location for the family.
Hi, Tom - thanks for your comment. My in-laws currently live up in KY! Thinking of planning a visit here to see how you like it before moving?
YES, COME DOWN FOR A WEEK, MANY MOTELS ON STATE ROAD 40 AND SEVERAL UPSCALE HOTELS ALONG I75
Spending 2 weeks in the Ocala area in February/March to scout out the area and other Florida locales. I am retiring next May and planning to move from Fairbanks Alaska where I have spent the last 31 years, to sunny Florida, giving up the snowblower and -20 F winters. Interested in a balanced area(not too rural, but not too urban), and not too far from a Publix. WIll be looking for a minimum 2 bed/2 bath 1200+ sq foot, preferably with a pool or room to build one, as well as room for a large garden & no restrictions with raising a few animals like chickens . I am planning on having a preapproval letter for up to 300k but don't really expect buy at that time (unless I find the perfect fit of a house in an area I like & the price is right). After the trip I will be more sure of making the move & start looking more in earnest to try and move out of Alaska before the winter of 2022/2023.
Darrell - thank for your comment. I don't blame you for wanting to give up the snowblower; I'm originally from Buffalo, NY đ„¶ It sounds like SW or NW Ocala would be a good fit for you. Can you shoot me an email or give me a call? I'd like to keep in touch as you get closer to your trip and also start keeping an eye on properties for you. Cell: 352-598-0847, email: steven@thebillingtonteam.com
Giving up snowblower to have to deal with a lot of shitty people. I dunno.
@@bb5242 THATS ONLY IN NEW YORK,
So how did it go?
Are there inexpensive mobile-manufactured home parks in or around Ocala? Is under $65,000 available? If not, what is the average cost of purchasing a mobile in that area? Thx in advance for your help.
Hi Kurt. So, there are some parks like that scattered here in Marion County. There are only 1 or 2 that are NOT 55+. One on SR40 next to the Save-A-Lot and a couple out in the Belleview/Ocklawaha area. My inclination is that you may be able to secure a unit for under that price point, as I have seen units in the 55+ parks go for that or less. My knowledge is a bit limited on those units as buying and selling them is a little different than units containing real property (land and not lot rent). Regarding manufactured homes, we saw 96 units come to the market from March heading into April, 4 at a price point less than $50k and 12 at a price between $50k and $100k. Let me know if that answers your question.
@@StevenBillington I did some research on my own as well and found that the prices are roughly the same as here in NH but the lot fees-rent are higher but include more such as pools, clubhouse, and parks. Thank you so much for getting back to me.
@@kurtrobert3762 Absolutely. Thinking about taking a visit down here?
@@StevenBillington I'm going to be 56 in a month and the winters here with the crazy heating oil prices are starting to make me think about where I'd like to be in a year or so. Next: job search!
@@kurtrobert3762 Nice man. Reach out if you need assistance in the area, happy to help!
Didnt u used to work at chilis?
Yes sir
Health care in Ocala is a big thumbs down for me, i can only compare to Massachusetts and Arizona, which I have lived.
I hear you. The last couple of years have had good improvement.
@@StevenBillington can you make any recommendations? Heart of Florida is awful.
@@russellscott81299 AdventHealth for hospital. Ocala Regional was just renamed HCA and I have high hopes. For a primary care physician my family loved Absolute Health and I hear good things about Sabal Direct.
WELL, WE HAVE UNITED HEALTH CARE ADVANTAGE PLAN, AND THERE ARE TONS OF DOCTORS AND CARE FACILITIES ALL OVER THE PLACE, SO, DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN
All of your cons. Are pros. The hell with theam parks and tourists. , the springs are beautiful all year, we don't need mass transit, and the history of the area along with a pure fla. Feel and veteran friendly.
Haha, I feel the same!
Unfortunately I love Ocala but I could not find good work so it came back to Pennsylvania
Iâm sorry to hear that, Linda. What industry do you work in?
YES, 60 PERCENT ARE RETIRED OUT HERE, AND A LOT WORK PART TIME TO FILL UP THEIR DAYS, LOW COST LIVING IS WHY THEY CAME HERE
I lived in Ocala from 1965 to 1978. I still have many friends there. Anybody knows all 5 of these "cons". Daytona is 90 minutes east. Not a big deal. Gulf coast about 75 minutes west. Not a big deal. Disney is a 2 hours south. Gainesville and the Sad Florida Gators are 45 minutes north. Ocala is right in the middle of everything without the high prices and taxes. Publix is way better than Costco and the rest. My 'hillbilly' Marion County education served me well as I have a CPA and an MBA from a top school and had no problem getting good corporate jobs. I don't like heat and humidity and that's why I moved way north.
Love this comment! My family agrees that these âconsâ arenât cons for us specifically. Weâre happy to have a lower cost of living and drive an hour for the activities we donât have here.
If youâre under the age of 55 Ocala, and Florida in general, isnât for you.
Naahh
PLENTY OF ACTION ON ALL THE BEACHES ALL AROUND THE STATE,,
Ocala is a nice place.
Agreed!
You seem like a pretty good dude and you're spot on but let's face it ocala Is boring and backwards Af! It's one of those towns the "florida man" inhabits!
Depends on your circle and lifestyle. Do you currently live here?
NOT SO BACKWARD, MORE LAID BACK, DON;'T FORGET, 60 PERCENT ARE RETIRED IN OCALA AND CAME HERE FOR THE TRANQUILITY AND SURROUNDING AREA A GOOD PLACE TO RAISE CHILDREN
Reason Number 6:
They don't have a decent barber shop or hair dressers đđ€Łđ€Ł
Hmm
đ đ€Łđđ
I concur - Ocala is SO boring! MOVE TO BRANDON (TAMPA) - how i miss it1âč
Howâs the cost of living there?
DEPENDS ON HOW OLD YOU ARE,
STEVE IS A COOL DUDE THO
Thank you my friend!
I am moving there itâs beautiful there omg .
Nice! When are you moving?
End of Nov I will be there .

Hi Stephen thanks for helping me what Iâm really looking for is some mobile homes that I can flip do you know any good parks with lower HOAâS and in nice parks?

Thanks for commenting!

Don't move there. Internet and cell service suck!
I will say my cell signal varies, but I havenât had issues with internet! Thank you for your comment đ
@@StevenBillington Your cell signal shouldn't vary. It's 2023. I can go to Mexico and have better service. But if you read the local news you would see stories of it taking an hour to open up a real estate listing. That's ridiculous. My mom had better service in a town of 600 people in rural Wisconsin, 5 years ago. Ocala sucks.
Come on vacation, leave on probation.
đ€Ż
You remind me of shaggy
Haha, I get that a lot!
sink holes? tornadoes? high property taxes?
Thanks for you comment. Reason I didnât include those: I would not agree that Ocala has high property taxes compared to other comparable cities. Tornados can happen anywhere, weâre not a hotspot. And sinkholes arenât Ocala specific, thats Florida in general.
@@StevenBillington đ ( But when other realtors have a channel and deny that Ocala had a significant tornado in 2020.....)
Sorry for the confusion - not denying. Maybe I misunderstood your initial comment. Iâm just saying tornados are everywhere so I didnât feel it was something significant to mention, but maybe I shouldâve after reading your comments.
@@StevenBillington People from all over look to Florida as a moving destination and very often where they are, have No tornadoes, sinkholes, etc. All I`m trying to say is these types of issues should not be covered up. What that other channel does is very dishonest . Sorry to vent
@@billwill1337 I hear you. I'm not familiar with the channel you're referring to, but agree it stinks when people are dishonest. I hope nothing on my channel is ever perceived that way and if I ever have wrong info, I want people to tell me!
Costco is coming to Ocala
We havenât been able to confirm that, whereâd you hear?
I heard this from Costco in Sarasota .
Yeah...that's the biggest news here in this creepy town of Slow-cala - the place of nowhere....
NO YET, AND IT IS ALREADY FEB 2023
You forgot the high rents
Depends on where youâre comparing it to
THEY HAVE WENT UP 30 PERCENT IN ONE YEAR, BUT CHEAER THEN ANYWHERE ELSE AROUND THE WHOLE COUNTRY,
Looks like you grab your curling iron every morning and flip your hair upward. đ€Łđ đđ
Luckily, itâs not that complicated. I just shampoo it!
@@StevenBillington - I moved to Ocala in 2004 left by 2007. It wasn't as great as everyone said and the sink hole risks there are quite scary!
@@kevinh8736 I hear you. Ocala is a different world since 2007.

Yes racist people are in Ocala they hide it deep and well
