"the scissors my mother gave to me" really REALLY hits different after finding out Kayo's mother was the demon of envy, and those scissors were the vessel that possessed her during this whole. ordeal. i feel like she was just set up for failure in that regard
Note: Kayo was never possesed during her story , thats a major twist in the novel . Her sin was all hereditary because her mother was the demon of envy herself in the body of a woman who during the events of the story has her soul inside the scissors instead the of the demon. Meanwhile Demon of Envy gets freed and becomes a mermaid.
If I were to rate each seven sin song based on their storytelling, flow and reveal of plot twists, this would come on top, followed by Sloth because of the wordplay, then Gluttony because of the progression of the story, then a bit lower on the list would be Wrath, because you'll only get the twists if you've watched JoC beforehand, then Lust because of the (personally) foreseeable twist with Karchess, then Greed. As for this song itself, I think it's an absolute masterpiece of storytelling, not just because this is the most ballad-like out of all the songs, but also because of the incorporation of instruments to highten the tension and atmosphere. I'm not exaggerating, it's absolutely genious! The way Kayo's narrating is the biggest reason, don't get me wrong, but I think the instrumentals are underappreciated. For instance, for the first half of the song, the instrumentals are flowy and easy-going, mimicking how the first half's lyrics are like a narration of everyday life. By 1:50 you hear the instruments grow louder, like how Kayo's feelings start rushing in. When she mentions the kimono, the instruments go from jumpy to a sliding wind sound, it gives shudders and it's a subtle hint that something's off. After that 2:13, the beat turns to a calm state, then what I think is a koto is added, there has been a change in the story, then reverts back to the upbeat style, like nothing happened, but now with the koto from before, then a new flute, heigthening the tension a bit. When Kayo mentions the obi in the second chorus, the instruments at 3:15 don't change pace as dramatically as the one in the first chorus, since it's not the first murder. At 3:19, another instrument is added, again helping heighten the tension as the audience wonders what's going on with the "mistresses" and Kayo's plan. At 3:30 the flute plays again, but more noticeable this time, and by 3:42 it's also reaching higher notes while Kayo expresses her outrage at the "mistress" 's young age. 3rd chorus, the flute keeps playing as loud as the other instruments. The story is reaching it's climax. The music becomes calm and lowkey eerie at 4:15 with the lack of instruments, giving the voice more emphasis, then at 4:28 the instruments surge in as the audience is on edge with the story. The flute plays at 4:39 when her victims are mentioned, and it plays a high note and a lower note for a bit, adding to the atmosphere, then at 4:54 as the other instruments fade the koto overwhelms the song, then abruptly stops leaving everyone womdering how things ended up. The instrumental that plays at the next verse is similar to the first part of the song but less upbeat, while Kayo narrates the murders, there's something clearly wrong, and as the last piece of the puzzle is told, 5:26 the kotos start playing, and grow louder, while it all clicks together in a shocking turn of events, and as the audience are dreadfully making sense of the story with a new pov, the kotos continue to play at the chorus. It's astoundingly creative.
4:56 Doesn't Kayo sound a bit ironic? As if she's flaunting her 'innocent' beauty. Feigning ignorance. And then being sarcastically mad over 'her husband' not recognizing her.
And that climax with the mv shows kayo wears her dress as she describes each part ends with a question "am i beautiful?" Then the music melow down given us the hint of what trully has happened in the song from kayo's perspective like it has nothing to do with her
They say Envy is green, but Envy can also be pink. Also there are BOOKS and PLAYS of this series, I truely love how mothy akuno can expand the series to such a entwined story not even I know the entirety of.
It's different overall (am I weird if I say I'm too familiar with the original) . I agree it's cleaner and maybe it's just me but this particular tuning just suits her better than with other Vocaloids. I also can't help noticing that this particular tuning makes her sound like traditional Japanese singing. :3
In addition, the vocals are definitely enka, but I noticed that she uses less vibrato than the scap version at some points, so I'm led to believe that it's a new tuning
You know, even though I noticed that this PV uses do many different looking art styles, it just now occurred to me that Mothy straight up organized a MAP if these are legit all different artists.
What i found so enticing from this song is that it told from kayo's perspective. Through the whole song she gave the impression of those cute shy innocent girl who secretly work hard to make their crush notice them (the song potray her dress making as if she is a high school baking cake/making bento for the first time). That "imma give my best" line in every part is what give this strong impression

Am I the only one who thinks Luka’s tuning is a little different in some places? It sounds cleaner, it’s so great.
It's different overall (am I weird if I say I'm too familiar with the original) . I agree it's cleaner and maybe it's just me but this particular tuning just suits her better than with other Vocaloids. I also can't help noticing that this particular tuning makes her sound like traditional Japanese singing. :3

What i found so enticing from this song is that it told from kayo's perspective. Through the whole song she gave the impression of those cute shy innocent girl who secretly work hard to make their crush notice them (the song potray her dress making as if she is a high school baking cake/making bento for the first time). That "imma give my best" line in every part is what give this strong impression
