Beautiful... spirit-led...from the heart... as worship should be. So many church songs today are 'wordy' and even 'showy'- production quality from man's strength. Let the spirit-borne songs return to the Church! Yes, Lord. Own us once again.

I grew up in South Jersey, the land of Bruce Springsteen. I can remember me and my classmates ending many weekend nights singing Thunder Road together. I remember going to see Him in concert at JFK stadium in Philadelphia in the fall of 84 during his born in the USA tour. Don't get me wrong I loved the concert and could recite every song but I distinctly remember watching 40,000 people all raising their arms in unison as the songs were delivered. I looked up to heaven and thought Lord this is how we should be worshiping You. I had recently become a Christian and was somewhat confused as to why when I went to church I had a hard time relating to the music there, it seemed so old fashioned and out of date. And then I found the Vineyard movement and immersed myself with all the fresh melodic melodies and awesome songs and music that I could now relate too. Fresh music in the style of our times with words pointing straight to heaven. I had gotten my wish. Thank you Lord for Kevin Prosch, Danny Daniels, Carl Tuttle, Andy Park,John Wimber and the many others who have enabled the body of Christ to worship you and glorify you in a style and language we can understand!

This good comment reminds me of the thoughts of CS Lews in his "Reflections on the Psalms" in his chapter about joy, "The Fair Beauty of the Lord." "The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance. I am not saying that this is so pure or so profound a thing as the love of God reached by the greatest Christian mystics and saints. But I am not comparing it with that, I am comparing it with the merely dutiful "church-going" and laborious "saying our prayers" to which most of us are , thank God not always, but often, reduced. Against that it stands out as something astonishingly robust, virile, and spontaneous" (kind of like Kevin's music). "Something we may regard with an innocent envy and may hope to be infected by as we read." What goes on from there is even more insightful, more of what you're reaching for here I think. Because it's not just "contemporary" that our souls are longing for, that these guys have given us ... it's, they've given us that palpable delight back, the crazy joy, the festive celebration, that we read about in the psalms and can barely, as modern people, wrap our heads around. (Because it's not IN the "head"!) . CS Lewis the Anglican understood what he was missing . "I am not saying that this gusto -- if you like this rowdiness -- can or should be revived. Some of it cannot be revived because it is not dead but with us still. It would be idle to pretend that we Anglicans are a striking example. The Romans, the Orthodox, and the Salvation Army all, I think, have retained more of it than we. We have a terrible concern about good taste."

Back in 1995 I had been walking with the Lord for almost 20 years but had never "shouted" to Him. I mean, it's not respectable, right?
One day I was alone in my car and had this CD on. I felt the Lord telling me to shout to Him. Even though no one was around I was still intimidated that someone might SEE me. But, I did it.
Another 20 years later, and I've been shouting ever since. I'm free now. So free.

Shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord of Hosts
Shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord of Hosts
We are His people, He gives us music to sing
But there is a sound now
Like the sound of the Lord when His enemies flee
But there is a cry in our hearts
Like when deep calls unto deep
    For Your breath of deliverance
To breathe on the music we so desperately need
    But without Your power
All we have are these simple songs
But if You? d step down from heaven
Then the gates of hell would surely fall
Shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord of Hosts
Shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord, shout to the Lord of Hosts
And it breaks the heavy yoke, breaks the heavy yoke
When you shout, you shout to the Lord
It breaks the heavy yoke, breaks the heavy yoke
When you shout, you shout to the Lord
Woa, you shout to the Lord
Yea, you shout to the Lord
La la la la la la la, La la la la la la
We say? Yes, Lord, yes Lord?
    Let the glory fall
Oh Lord my God, let the glory fall
Oh join your voices and sing, let the glory fall
We say it again, say it again, let the glory fall
Mm, uh huh, yeah, let the glory fall
Yeah, yeah, oh, let the glory fall
Yeah, yeah, yeah, let the glory fall,
    Yeah, let the glory fall
    Let the glory fall
Lala la la la la la, lala la la la la la ...
    Let the dance begin!
. Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Yes Lord! Yes Lord!
