Aloha Bill, Thank you for the updates. We are happy you're feeling better, and all is well. Poor little Gray-C all frustrated with all that rain, and we love seeing her cute little face. Smart to have installed that solar with all the power fluctuations you have to deal with. Cheers! B.
I can’t even begin to fathom that much rain. In 89’ when Loma Prieta hit I was living in downtown SF. I’ve never seen it so dark as when I was in an apartment building trying to walk up and down stairs to get to my apartment. Glad to hear you’re feeling better Bill!
If you ever got stuck in one of those blinding Iowa thunderstorms on route 80, then imagine the same storm lasting 2 days instead of 2 hours. That is pretty much what it is like. Lucky for us the soil here drains like sand. Two hours after the sun returned we had no puddles.
We had the privilege to not have power for a night down there two years ago while there were 70mph winds gusting up the saddle road. Some of the most beautiful stars I have ever seen!
Happy to hear your impact was minimal. We have a little butane table top burner that is really inexpensive and useful for camping or an outage. Cans of fuel are about the size of a can of shaving cream.
I have my propane grill but if all else fails I can burn wood in my Weber. The Big Island has never taken a direct hit from a hurricane. It better stay that way. I dropped my hurricane insurance.
All my bulbs are LED. For back up during failure I use a series of LED camping lanterns. They are extremely bright. I had a few 25 watt self contained LED bulbs but I found them underwhelming.
I was writing short stories today to pass the time and I thought of how cool it would be to watch you have a conversation with Alan Watts and George Carlin. Maybe you can do a video themed by their philosophies and they helped you develop your own world view.
Sure, Watts, reality is an illusion of your making. Our universe exists because we believe it does. Carlin, There is humor in everything and we are all idiots for taking life seriously and believing the BS.
Some EVs can be configured so their batteries supply power to your house. This is often used during the daily peak on a power grid when the demand and price/kWh is high.
Power is the same rate at all hours here. I own a Chevy Bolt and it doesn't reverse feed. My problem is more likely getting enough juice to run both the house and the car. If I have a choice the car gets left discharged. I just signed papers for a second Powerwall, a second EV charger and more panels on the roof. I suspect this should eliminate future shortages.
Our solar system was built to be 99% coverage under the worst of conditions. Hone was worse than anything we saw before. I already had the solar folks drawing up a second Powerwall and more collectors. This is the best solution. More storage and generation. I just add more of the same to the system and we will likely never see this again.
How many collectors do you have, and total KWh are you getting on those per month? Evidently the power wall cost goes down with volume, so I’m thinking two of them should do the job on 1200-1400 sq ft. 🤞
Square footage isn't the usual calculation. Kwh usage and solar days make the formula. We have 17 Sun Power SPR 327 panels Kw total 5.56. I have one Tesla Power wall. The modifications we are making add a second Power Wall and 3 more collectors.

Trouble everyday. The solar went to stand by and won't come back out. One of these days my problems will end. I'll be dead!
@@GreenGardenGuy1 lol, ain't that the truth!

There is a good reason why astronomers want to build telescopes here.
Aloha Bill, thanks again for another great video! Glad you and Ellen &Gray-c are fine. Hope to stop b6 in a couple weeks. Mahalo for your effort Bob
Nice seeing at Wyatt’s cafe. Great spot !
@@bobzack9750 Once they figured out how to get the fries crispy they scored high marks.

LED lightbulbs with built in battery are excellent of providing light when power is down

Ahh but the Milky-way must have been spectacular that night! ✨
It was fair but there was still a lot of humidity in the air.
Glad you are ok. Hurricanes are bad business. Hurricane Harvey dropped over 65 inches of rain on us a few years ago. Was a monster.
Lane left 36", should have been named hurricane rain.
Yes. They are bad business indeed @@GreenGardenGuy1
@@brandonallen9853 So far the Big Island has never taken a direct hit from one. It can stay that way.
@@GreenGardenGuy1 hoping the island never has to endure that.
@@brandonallen9853 I would be more confident if the ocean wasn't getting warmer every year.

Yup, no serious damage and covid is passing.
Propane generac as a backup? 24kw at lowes less than 6k. Was worried about you. Glad you made it.

And Australia's winter weather in the 100s :P
Ouch.
Wow! We got 11 inches here in Hāmakua. 🤙
27" is counting 8/23, 8/24. 8/25 & 8/26. If you only count 24 & 25 we had 25.75 inches.
Happy to hear you are safe🙏
We are good. The property is graded well so no issues with water. The wind only hit 19 mph.
@@GreenGardenGuy1 here in Nassau we have been spared so far but the season is not over🥴
Yes, Nassau is a hurricane destination. Best of luck this year.
Glad all is ok

@@GreenGardenGuy1 thanks, Bill! Exactly what I was expecting. Good to know I’m on the right track. Stay dry my friend. 🤙
@@Kensington.Island The sun is out but not enough to coax my Tesla Powerwall out of stand by mod. Crap, one thing after another.
Light pollution is real!
It truly is and even here where they use special street lights for the telescopes & we only have 200,000 people in 4000 sq miles..
