According to the director Godzilla killed Kong so I guess one legend died. HEAV ship was used as a defibrillator to bring Kong back to life. And Godzilla charged the axe (which had been ineffective against Mechagodzilla up to that point) allowing Kong to be able to destroy Mechagodzilla. Godzilla and Kong defeat Mechagodzilla, not just Kong.
