    Great explanation and tips. Then the horse take more contact on one rein , and I tend to be strong so the horse can continue to “lean “ on this side. But I guess this is when the legs and leg yield comes in ?

      Great question Kerstin! We have forward to Alicia to help explain for you how to help with this! Watch this space for an update! x

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  Před 2 lety

      Hi Kerstin! Update for you - Not the leg- remember the leg is for forward or bending the rib cage. It is your reins that move the shoulder. You are correct with your thinking of leg yield though! You need to move the shoulder more so that the horse is not leaning there, so with the rein you need to think about moving the bit in the horses mouth so that the horses head stays in the middle of the chest and doesn't have anything to lean on. Hope that helps! x

    This is really really helpful for me! My first horse Mac was always so hollow and was never trained how to hold himself and how to “be on the bit” so I was never really sure how to find the contact properly because any pressure would make him fight with me. I definitely just needed to get the feel of what contact would would be like and I was good and golden. My pony still doesn’t like contact but he’s a trail pony so that’s fine. Whereas I ride my sisters eventing horse occasionally and I find it really easy to apply this to him! I love the sponge technique I will have to give it a go!

    Great video Alicia 💞 will definatly be trying this as some point because I spend 5 years riding horses that took all your effort to just make them move so I learned to ride with “washing line reins” to avoid any chance of them thinking they needed to stop. Now I’ve got a pony that’s more forward but still needs leg I find myself guilty of letting them get long when asking for transitions x

My cob X and I have improved so much (over 9 years of owning her), but she still sometimes gets into her old habitat of bearing down and hanging on the bit. I wonder if you're going to present the thing I came up with on a fallen tree where I noticed my feet kick forward in posting trot. I'd just like confirmation that I'm going in the right direction. I don't want to do something off horse thinking it would help me when on horse, but it does the opposite. I've already fo alot of ingrained habit that I need to fix (and no access to a horse to practice with), I'd hate to be making it worse.

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  Před 3 lety

      Hi there! We asked Alicia about this.... she said:
      If you find you are having problems with your legs, you can use a gym ball to sit on that in stead of a saddle (it will also help your balance!). Its a bit more advanced, but it will ensure you don't make a bad habit worse!
      Let us know if that helps!

      @@NoThankUBeQuiet I had some video footage, but I lost it so I can't show anyone. Feet kicked forward, not back. Instructor said it was interesting that they didn't go back and forward, but I wasn't able to solve any of my issues before I had to stop. I learned I got alotta issues, though.
