Tears always come with this song, and Alan Jackson’s. We arrived in the US on August 1 and 9/11 happened a month after. The immigration lawyer called and asked if I still wanted to continue with my green card application- yes, our application went in 2 weeks after arrival. My answer? Hell yeah! The flags, the sadness, the unity at that time…We became citizens in 2010. Sebs, I feel the same way - after living in 3 countries and traveling extensively this is where I am home.

I worked for one of the law firms that filed the 9/11 litigation against those behind the 9/11 attacks. I was so proud to be working for this law firm that was going to help in someway. Give us some kind of justice. The 9/11 songs that came out were amazing. We showed so much patriotism and unity at that time. I wish that we still had that. I feel that our entire country needs to be reminded.
I’m a former marine . My heart broke that day. I was on maternity leave and discharged 6 weeks prior . I walked into that pentagon everyday and always think of the corporal who took over my job what happened to them . The plane that crashed into my pentagon was carrying children that had won a field trip to dc . I can’t imagine the pain their parents went through. I’m a Icu nurse now and see so many veterans fighting the horror of war and the memories of that day.
Sebs you were always destined to be an American. I honor your mother for teaching you the compassion you have for others . I wish all Americans was as patriotic as you and others that became citizens. God bless

😢 I will admit that every 9/11 brings everything flooding back for me. I was married to my Air Force husband for just nine months when it happened. We lived in the midwest. I knew when the first tower was hit, it was no accident. I went to work with preschool children, which allowed me to be at peace for a time. We went to our local church, which is filled with civilians and military families. I remember looking around to see that the civilians sat on one side and military on another, which was abnormal. It was done without a word being said until the pastor noticed it himself. The civilians then surrounded the military, and it was a night of tears and prayer. Not long after, my pilot husband was called to fly, and for the first time, I couldn't know anything. My heart sank, and I wept as I dropped him off. My father also joined the reserves. Both were eventually sent over. Both survived. I weep every 9/11 and remember exactly how it felt.

My husband was also in the Air Force. We had 3 small children. That night, as we were listening to the president speak, my husband looked at me and said, “you know I’m leaving soon, right?” And he was gone in about a week, for the first of many deployments. I will never forget this day, nor the days and years that followed.
I'm sitting here watching this and I'm crying, again. Every year on this day I swing from anger and outrage at what happened to immense pride in my fellow Americans and our military. If you have never visited the Shanksville Flight 93 memorial to those heroes who took down that last plane I highly recommend it. Never Forget!
The trilogy with bonus is an incredible journey ... Start in NYC then Shanksville on to the Pentagon with the final stop the Tomb of the Unknown for changing of the guard. The only other spot I would consider adding would be the Arizona in Pearl Harbor. There are some other hallowed grounds for sure (Antietam from the Civil War for sure, Valley Forge, and The American Cemetery at Normandy, no doubt others I should name) ... but the 9/11 group and then Arlington to pull it all into perspective is deeply moving. Shanksville will grab you in ways that are hard to describe. Never Forget!
I hope this generation does not forget what happened. No political crap. So many people lost their lives. I was at work in shock hearing the reports.
Kathy here - first and foremost, you are an AMERICAN! Once you became a naturalized citizen, you became an American. And thank you, as always, for such a great review on the anniversary of this tragedy. I had to try and explain it to my 6-year-old son. I stared at the TV till he got home from school, just crying.
I'll never forget being at the Open Ceremonies of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. When they carried in the flag that had fallen with the tower. 😢You could have heard a pin drop even with thousands of people in the stadium. All you could hear was the whisp of the wind and tears. Just like with family, sometimes it takes a tragedy to bring everyone back together, and that's unfortunate.
I watched from my living room in Pataskala, Ohio scared to death!!! The humanity afterwards was so heartwarming!! We should never forget!!!

When my mom past away it was a very agonizing and heartbreaking time. It’s a pain like no other. But the prayers I had to God, I prayed for mercy as she fought her cancer battle. And God showed His mercy. Even in great tragedy, I learned His mercy. ❤🙏
I still remember this day as if had happened yesterday. This is one of most tragic events in all of history.

What a horrific day. I went to bed that night. Just laying there and crying. Thinking of all the families that were just waiting for their loved ones to walk through the door. I still get emotional. Just thinking about that.
As I said on the 9/11 anniversary, the calendar says it was 22 years ago. My heart says "No, it was only yesterday."
You are an AMERICAN!! Don't ever doubt that, but I do think it hits different being here in America during that time. I was 9 in ohio seeing it and didn't realize how horrific it was but even then I knew this was life changing and seeing footage later of people jumping off the top floors because they couldn't escape it was enraging and I can't imagine having to make that decision. I'm so grateful for our troops willing to put their lives on the line every day. Thank God for our troops.
I won’t forget. I did have a brother in the Air Force who was working in the Pentagon that day. Thankfully he was safe that day.

Americans really stepped up and showed the best of ourselves when 9/11 happened The unity and the love and compassion that we showed everybody at that time is something that we really need to go back to we've gone really down hill since then

I grew up in the shadow of the Pentagon. 9/11 was a very tough day. Learning that week that my relatively small church lost 2 members and 1 adult child of members at the Pentagon. Still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it.
I lost a friend, one of the younger kids who used to hang out with us when us hooligans were teenagers. I wanted so badly to sign up for the Navy but wasn't physically able... this kid was freshly married, 20 years old with an infant daughter. I hope her mama teaches her what a hero her daddy was. He passed away in the war.

Ive taken my kids to this memorial in nyc 5 times in the past 2 years. NYC is my dream city and 9/11 still hits me to the core to this day. We will never forget. Ever. The US military had its largest rise in enlistment after this event. Americans came together and loved and supported each other 🇺🇸❤️🩵🩶 Im in ohio, 10 hours away and I met a veteran today standing outside our fire department with his 9/11 display. He made it on the 10th anniversary and stands outside for 12 hours every year on the anniversary. He said people are forgetting and i want them to remember. Hes 76 and such a sweetheart. 🇺🇸

I'm a retired veteran of 27 years of service and a two time combat veteran. I now raise cattle, chew, drink beer and live in SW Missouri. All that being said, you are as American as I am. God Bless America!
Every time I listen to this song I will tear up. I don't care how many years it's been what happened was horrendous. They were all innocent people amongst the monsters.
I was just a mile away from the towers when this happened! It was the absolute worst thing I have ever seen! I couldn't believe my eyes. I haven't been able to go back to the city since. 😢

I think most of the world felt the pain of American people. I can remember getting up and turning on the tv. I thought I was watching a film but couldn't understand why it was on so early. My heart broke that day hearing the people making calls to their loved ones, the unimaginable destruction and watching the towers fall. I am British and live in Wales but this was a day never to be forgotten. RIP to all who perished and love to all who were affected by 9/11
There is a documentary called Boatlift An Unknown Tale of 9/11, you should watch. Narrated by Tom Hanks. It's the true story of ordinary Americans that shows our exemplify determination. Great reaction. ❤

I lived in New York for 5 years after the attack. Finally went to ground zero, yiu cannot help but cry when you go there.
Boy, have I not forgotten. We had just moved back to northern Idaho and our daughter was in D.C. (Redskins cheerleader) and working part time for a construction company who were renovating the Pentagon. She was at their main office about 1 block from the White House when the attack happened. She was put into lockdown along with others and we had no idea how she was doing for hours. Finally in the early afternoon, I got a call from her. (This was back before everyone had a cell phone). She said one person in lockdown had a cell phone and passed it around so people could reach out to their families. Such a relief to hear her voice. I still give a mental 'thank you' to that person every 9/11. 🙏🙏🙏 I wish everyone could have been so lucky.
You reminded me how we were United and how scared we all are were!! Just waiting to see what was next. How brave and scared those people were who took the last plane down they saved so many lives when they lost their. Then I think about were we r now.

Wow you’re young, I was stationed in Italy on 9/11 and it really pulled us together. Crazy to think it’s been almost 23 years already.
Such a great, impactful song. My favorite show at the time (and to this day) was Third Watch, a fictional drama about first responders in New York City, and one of the only series that actively included 9/11. They even lost some crew members that day, and donated their show fire engines and ambulances to those who needed them. This song always takes me back to that show. If anyone out there hasn't watched it, I recommend it. Free on Tubi right now and Roku.

Im a nurse in a southern state working in a dept that brought patients into the hospital. We were on high alert for 3 days expecting thousands of causalities unfortunately we werent needed.
I remember the sermon my pastor said. God doesn't cause bad things to happen. If I believe in God then I have to believe in satan. We need to blame the evil on him and not God. I will never forget 😢
This was t tragedy. What is going on now is a tragedy. It needs to stop. We must stand up and unite together. God does not stop or keep thing from happening. It is called free will. I never want to have a day like 9/11 again, but I sure do miss the the days afterwards when the whole country came together and we were all just brothers and sisters.

6:57 Sebs, I’m a few years older than you, but I remember that same bewildered feeling of trying to grasp what was going on, of my Dad calling and telling my Mom to turn on the tv in the middle of our homeschool day, of seeing the second plan hit the tower, of Dad coming home from his government job and sitting with Mom, watching in shock as the seemingly unthinkable happened. Later, we found out that the section of the Pentagon that my Dad worked at before he had retired from the Air Force a few years back had also been taken out by a plane. I was supposed to return to doing schoolwork in my room, but I remember turning on my radio to try and get a better idea of what was going on. I have not forgotten, nor have many Americans who were old enough to understand what happened that day.
I come from a family of immigrants, the most recent being a grandmother who immigrated from Colombia as a teenager. She has been an American for eons. You are as much American as she is, as I am, as any other American. Your appreciation for this country is heartwarming.

i was only 5 when 911 happened but i still remember seeing my mom break down completely and I've never seen a rage like that in my father (a retired marine) i was to young to understand what caused it but seeing this is still a feeling i will never forget

i was a volunteer Firefighter until 2000 when i moved States, The hardest sound I heard was all the PAS Device Alerts. Every tone was a brother and sister in the rubble.
Its a tone that we joked about in training but knew it was suppose to be a guide in you were knocked unconscious. 😢😢. 22 yrs later 24 yrs since i have worn Turn out gear, and that tone takes me back to 9/11
9/11 was one of the worst days. I lost a friend in NY he was trapped in tower and on the phone with his dad when the tower collapsed. I stood in Arlington National Cemetery at my father's grave just a day after the attack, looking at the smoke rising out of the hole in the Pentagon. A friend just made it out her office only a few feet from the point of impact. Briefly we came together, but this song was too prophetic indeed far to many have forgotten. Instead of our country coming together and staying there we soon fell apart and sadly we may never manage to come back together. Too many are all about themselves and the hate they feel for ___________ (pick the latest group to hate). And have others have said Seb you are absolutely an American, in your case by choice which often is a deeper love than those who got it by birth.
As a totally and permanently disabled veteran who was serving when this happened I appreciate it. Life in the service after 9/11 was . . . so hard for so many different reasons (yes, even for us Coast Guardsmen). I ended up injured (nearly died), but thankfully pulled through. I've got a unique view of things from my wheelchair and there's a lot of complicated PTSD and stuff, but in the end this song still hits.

I’m about to say something that might initially piss you off but keep reading and I’m sure you’ll have a smile when you’re done reading it. I’m a Desert Storm Navy SeaBee veteran and I get pissed off when I hear Coasties called veterans. Not because y’all aren’t D.O.D. or anything like that. I get pissed because I don’t feel like the term is good enough for the people who served our country in the Coast Guard. I wish we had a term that is more appropriate for the things y’all do. I was a Navy brat before I served so I naturally grew up along our coasts. I got to hear and see about the crap you all had to deal with on the news. After I got out, I became friends with several Coasties. I got to hear about the interdiction missions, the rescues, the support missions for the Navy, etc… Y’all don’t get enough credit for the things that you do for our country. I sincerely hope that someday the media will understand how important the Coast Guard is and publicize what you do. May God bless you and everyone else that served in the Coast Guard, you all deserve more love & respect and hold a very special place in my heart. Again, thank you for everything you’ve done for our country.

I was 22 years old and 7 months pregnant with my first son when those towers fell. I remember being terrified that it was going to continue, and I wouldn't get to see my son born. I remember feeling the worst pain had ever felt in my heart when I saw that first tower fall. And then, I remember feeling so immensely proud of my country in the days and months following. How we came together and loved each other through it.
I don't know what happened to that unity we had then, but I miss it.

This gets me very time. I'm from Oklahoma and I never thought anything could be worse than our bombing in 1995. While it is totally different, the feeling of a person or of people having so much hate that they would do this shit is baffling! I will never understand that kind of hate.

I was so confused about my brother being different. I couldn't figure it out and he sent me the video. I get it now.
I had to work today but all I could do today was pray. For those that were lost in 2001 as well as those that survived but have since passed. It's a really tough day for me because I didn't know those that were killed but I knew people who knew someone in the towers or the Pentagon or on Flight 93.
Sebs. You are American. Roots in another country which is what enriches us. I love your story of the American school kids and how they sang the National Anthem that day. What struck me and still amazes me is how there were connections all over the country to those in the Towers; I kept hearing about it. New York didn't feel like a distant city; it truly was our neighbors. I live in Montana; someone who had a cafe here had a relative in one of those towers; my brother in law had a relative that drove one of the ferries that shuttled people that day; I worked with people years later here in Montana who had trauma from that day. We are very connected; much more than we realize. May the God I believe in provide peace for those still affected and may He bless you.

There are 3 moments in my life that I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when I found out about them. 9/11, The Murrah Building Bombing, and when I was told my mom had passed away. All of those happened between the ages of 9 & 18 for me and everyone of them at 40 years old I can also tell you how I felt in that very moment.
With heart
I was working in a small local grocery store that day. Both of my military sons called to rell me they were safe. One was overseas, the other in northern Virginia, close to Washington DC. One is retiring this year, the other next year.
Your reaction brought me to tears...I can remember every single minute of 9/11, and the days following. We were hurt, we were sad, we were angry and felt lost. I felt compelled to help however I could. Thanks for the reaction.
That morning in Concord, CA, I parked next to a co-worker who was listening to his radio.
He said a plane just crashed into the WTC.
I said that’s a shame but something like this happened before when a B-25 bomber crashed into the Empire State Building many years ago.
As I was getting my gear out of my car, he said a second plane hit the other tower.
I just looked at him and said:
“This means war.”
That night, my wife and I stood, with her in my arms, on our patio, and there was not a plane in the sky except for the occasional jet fighter. You could tell it was a fighter by the speed it was traveling over a usually crowded commercial flight path. Our world would never be the same.
I will NEVER forget.
I was around 4 years old and I remember hearing about it in class. One boy was telling us about it, and many of us were telling him to stop lying (for reference, he often acted like he knew a lot more than us because his dad was a cop). I still remember my teacher walking into the room and freezing when over a dozen 4-5-year-olds told her to make him stop lying about it and having to explain to us that it was true and what that meant to us. Can you imagine having to look several small children in the eyes who are asking you why someone would do that?
