The Missouri Catholic Conference talks to Jimmy Akin about the lack of civility in politics.
Jimmy Akin is senior apologist at Catholic Answers and the host of Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World.
I always like a Jimmy Akin video. No need to ask, Jimmy.
Great video, Jimmy. Great advice to folks who spend too much time on the screen (mea culpa).
THANKS FROM NEW ZEALAND ❤❤❤🙏

Hey! I'm from Missouri and Catholic. This works out great.
Hi, Jimmy...I'm a great fan of yours, and I watch your videos almost every day. I've enjoyed your debates and "Mysterious World" documentary videos/podcasts so much! I think this conversation on civility in political discourse is so needed, and I think it's important to try to understand those you think you oppose. We can probably find some common ground if we try, and we know that "The wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God" (James 1:20). I'm a Matthew 25 voter, and I believe that pro-life means the womb, the tomb, and every minute in between. Most folks are in between, so you can guess where I think the most good can be done. Our Lord Jesus can be found among the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the sick, the immigrants, and the prisoners, and His judgment of the nations will be about them. We should be mindful that He sends His holy angels out among those migrants in human form (Hebrews 13:2). How will they be treated at our southern border? Catholic charities and our Sisters are being persecuted for their acts of mercy. The Pope has shown great leadership in this area, and I praise God for him. Neither party is doing right by them, in my view.
You mentioned inflation and blamed the government for it. I respectfully disagree, as inflation is about more than the money supply. Grocery chains and oil companies have reported record profits during the last 5 quarters. Big box stores like Target have also seen huge profits. This would indicate that higher prices are no longer the result of supply chain issues or an increase in wholesale or production costs. We've also seen oil companies refusing to drill on more than 9,000 approved leases on public lands, thereby controlling supply to keep prices up. Otherwise, they would be feeling the same pain we have been feeling. Anti-trust laws have been poorly enforced in prior administrations, but the current administration is changing that. For instance, the FTC is seeking to block behemoth Kroger from acquiring the smaller Albertson's chain. Market forces don't work properly when big companies are allowed to gobble up the competition at will, so the now-even-bigger companies can charge whatever they want. COVID is no longer an excuse, and I think you would agree that price-gouging for profit is a sin.
Thanks, Jimmy.
It’s difficult for me to envision Catholic people in Missouri. I would like to go to a Catholic service in Missouri. That strikes me as interesting and novel. I will look for one when I am there again one day and attend. That will be an experience to behold! 🙏🏼
I remember being able to discuss different political views even in my own family as we got together regularly. I don't remember political talk at holiday dinners, I think because it just didn't come up. But at BBQs and such, it was common and comfortable. And then in 2008 all of a sudden there were family members who blocked me on social media (which was only Facebook at the time). Needless to say, I didn't support their candidate for president. And now it's verboten to discuss politics at any family gathering.
I'm tonyl, and I approve this video. I can relate to all of it, having a past of political activism.
First viewer, liker, and commenter. Nothing productive to add though.
❤ Great value in this discussion. Thanks Jimmy Akin! 🙏
Thank you 😊
Great video, thanks Jimmy!
Good general conversation. Insofar as it behooves one to not allow one's kindness to be taken for weakness, I'm reminded of the quote from Roadhouse, "Be nice... until it's time to not be nice"
Good applying of Pope Francis's evangelizing principle:
*_"Build bridges not walls"_* 😇👍
Pity that many can't grasp that simple rule, and they obtain repulsion rather than attraction!
