Not only is a Retief story like this one a very good way to fall asleep, but when I awoke, I still had it open so I could listen to the wonderfully convoluted satire of diplomatic repartee that only Keith Laumer, with his long experience working in diplomacy himself, can accomplish, when I was fully awake again!

@@bodapodopaboqobadopoqabod - Retief is a character created by Keith Laumer. Retief is a sci-fi diplomat who usually uses bureaucracy to bring justice to the galaxy - in very funny ways! Wikipedia has a great article on the character (Jame Retief). Keith Laumer was an actual diplomat during WWII, so the stories have a sense of realism.

Retief is a favourite of mine. The problem is there are a finite amount of his stories so I have to force myself to spread them out rather than doing them all at once!
