    I am glad it turned out to be great. I am a fan of Viscontis but cannot in my right mind afford them 😂 I have been eyeing the Mirage Mythos which is as close as I can get to my spending limit.

      I do have a Breeze and a Van Gogh, both steel nibbed pens, and enjoy using both of them. This is my forst gold-nibbed Visconti. I think I may need to ink the others up as well and do a comparison between the three, all of which are at very different price points.

      @@GarryEvesThat would be nice as I feel they can vary a lot which is a shame because some manufacturers take a lot of care even with their entry level pens.

    Congratulations on your Grail pen Garry. I found that first really expensive pen purchase very difficult as well. I have Visconti HS Magma, Midnight in Florence, Tuscan Hills, and Lotus Garden. Every one of them has a wonderful nib. I so glad you are thrilled with your purchase and looking forward to seeing it featured in future videos.

      Now I've been able to experience the pen with longer writing sessions I can see why people love them so much.
      Lets just hope this doesn't take me down another rabbit-hole.

    Congrats, Gary... incredible acquisition... we are all so happy and celebrate with you. You are so deserving... I believe the plating on the pen is, in fact, "ruthenium," if all my sources serve me correctly. But again.... thanks for sharing.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 5 měsíci

      I thought I had also red ruthenium somewhere, but I've not been aboe to locate the source again. I'm sure I'll find out one day.

    I usually prefer medium nibs but had to get my homo sapiens in fine since it writes such a wet line. It's been such a great pen for drawing and writing for me. I can't imagine how sopping wet a broad nib would be for this pen.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 5 měsíci +1

      It is a very wet writer.
      I need to try some different inks in it, but I am currently quite enjoying the Earl Grey.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah, this is the 18k gold nib. It may be palladium plated, as Teresa suggested, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

  • @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564
    @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 Před 6 měsíci +6

    I think the nib is Palladium coated. I had to laugh when you talked about the excessive package. I agree but you wouldn't want a pen like that to come in a little tin box. 😂 It's a beautiful pen. I like that it has the dark accent rings. Regarding the price; Mark Twain said, " Never regret anything that makes you smile", and I can see your joy, in your new pen. I think this is the best pen review I've ever seen, because your happiness and pride of ownership shines through.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I haven't been able to find anywhree that says about the nib coating, only that is it a Sreamtouch nib. I will dig a but more into that.
      I'm still in two minds about the packaging. Part of me expects to have that sort of packing for the money spent, but the other parts does still cry out that it'soverkill.
      Thanks. I've been using the pen today, it is such a joy to use that i don't really want to put it down.

    • @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564
      @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@GarryEvesIf you have a Dreamtouch nib, it should be 23K Palladium. Those were the original nibs for the Homo Sapiens. Then the price of Palladium exceeded the price of gold, so Visconti started using gold Bock nibs ( which is probably when they got a reputation for bad nibs), before they began using in house nibs.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 5 měsíci

      @@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 I've just been going from the Cult Pens website, which is where I bought the pen from.
      I'm sure they used to have more details about the nib on it, but I can';t find them any more.

    I enjoyed your review. I really like the Homo Sapiens. I bought the Sapphire Stones demonstrator on sale from Goldspot a few years ago but wasn’t completely satisfied with the nib. Last month I purchased the Crystal Dreams edition and it is without defect, the medium nib writes like butter and feels so comfortable in my hand. My husband purchased the Dark Crystal version and is glad he did. He prefers the more substantial sized pens. My other favorite EDC pens are the Pelikan M1000 Renaissance Brown, Pilot Vanishing Nib LS & Custom 823, and the Lamy 2000. Over the last few years I’ve developed the philosophy of buying the item I really want rather than a lesser substitute. I’m unhappy with it, and eventually get the originally desired item. Wasted money. 😛👋🏾

      I've been lucky, I have 3 Viscontis now (2 steel and this one) and have not had a nib issue with them.
      I believe Appelboom offer a service to check the nibs before dispatch.

  • @paulmchugh1430
    @paulmchugh1430 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Congratulations on your new pen. Visconti nibs are very wet writers. The complaints about the nib are usually from previous editions when they were made from 14Kt gold or Palladium. There even a comical nib version.
    The lava resin is very unique. I think they call it hydroscopic. It feels really nice in the hand.
    I own only one Visconti fountain pen, the Divine Proportions. I have never used it, strangely. It sits on display in its display case.
    Enjoy your pen. I think you may be able to swap nibs. It would certainly be less expensive than getting another Homo Sapiens.

      So the seller is very kind he issued me a full refund and told me that I can keep the pen. I will get the nib done by a nibmeister. Now just the feed where it’s screwed onto the barrel has a chip(where the Visconti nib removal tool goes).
