Oz Perkins is seriously underrated. The Blackcoats Daughter is easily one of A24’s best horror films they released. I’m excited to see Nic Cage as a serial killer
@@77Creation it's not about getting it. That movie wasn't very good. If you were referring to Possum then I would agree. That's an absolutely amazing film that you need to "get" to appreciate it.
Ok I'm going to throw in my two cents on both Possum & The Blackcoats Daughter. In my humble opinion Possum was just all over the place and seemed very artsy for the sake of being artsy. The Blackcoats Daughter was a masterpiece from beginning to end! The cinematography, lighting, acting, score all of it came together to beautifully craft a very original story. I don't even like calling it a horror movie as for me it doesn't even become one till the last 30 minutes. Possum on the other hand was very hard to follow and confused me more than it intrigued me.
The real reason why this teaser is so good is because it feels like something you would genuinely see from a true crime show on Investigation Discovery or HLN. Like, a teaser or something on either of those networks for a serial killer show, or even that show 48 Hours. It wasn’t so much that this teaser took the “less is more approach”, though there is some truth to that. What the teaser did was essentially mirror true crime with haunting music, camera flash sound effects for that old school feel, and the zooming in on the daughter. It gave this a true crime feel that helps make it feel that much more real, and horrific. 10/10. Very very, VERY well done. This teaser goes to show you the power of good editing and sound.
In my opinion, it seems like they first showed us the family photo establishing their relationships. Then the man says "it's my daughter", while it zooms in on her. We are safe. It is his daughter. Then he says "I gotta be quiet". Cool. He is probably hiding, but protecting his daughter. Then he says "it is not my daughter", when it is so close to her face. Our brain immediately goes "oh sh*t". Great trailer.
@@124myth I agree with everything you just said too! Where I was coming from was the true crime “investigation discovery” feel of the clip. Can’t wait to watch this movie!

Thank you. I couldn't make out anything after "It's my daughter". I hate it when I can't hear the dialogue and this was driving me nuts. I hope the rest of the audio for the movie is more intelligible.
@@govardhanposina17 Because we already see loads of unintelligible dialogue in movies these days. Seems like it's almost the norm, and I'm sick of it. If it's an intentional choice to make the dialogue difficult to understand in the trailer (as you're saying), then why wouldn't we expect the filmmakers to make the same decision to use some unintelligible dialogue in the film? But seriously, if a filmmaker is intentionally making the dialogue unintelligible, I honestly don't want to bother with it. I find it really annoying.
@@MichaelVogtOK genuinely curious, what was the last movie that made you feel this way? I can honestly only remember Tenet being the last movie to have such unintelligible dialogue for intentional reasons and yeah I was pretty annoyed at it since it didn't seem to serve any legit purpose
@@govardhanposina17 Nearly every Nolan movie of the past decade has had these issues, and though I had fewer problems with Oppenheimer, there were parts where I had trouble understanding them, and that was the last time I had a problem at the theater. I know Nolan doesn't like to have actors re-voice their lines, preferring to keep the audio from their performance, which is a challenge with noisy IMAX cameras. I get that, but it's still a distraction for me. I often watch movies with others at home, and they have so much trouble hearing dialogue that the subtitles on by default, so it's a bit harder to remember which ones were problematic. Every time we started a movie without subtitles we'd get less than ten minutes in before someone would ask to turn the subtitles on. We don't seem to have that problem with older movies showing on PBS afterward.
