    Dave, adapting things like this for use is great. We're only limited by our imagination and how to. Keep up the good work.

    Dave, I just remembered a really good example of what you're doing here. Many years ago, I had a Canon AE-1 film still camera. I got a Speedlite flash unit for it. Nice flash but it used AA cells that didn't last very long. Vivitar made a power pack that held 4 D cells. A coiled cord connected it to the flash unit. Same size connection as the Speedlite but the contacts were on the wrong side on the connector. A drill bit and a couple new contacts and done. An access slot in the cover and it was fine. Those D cells lasted for several rolls of 35 exp. film.

    I have the very first Betacam camcorder setup, the Sony BVV-1A docked onto a BVP-3A camera head. Uses Saticon tubes instead of CCDs. Gotta love those comet trails. The BVP-30 used Plumbicons which don't have as much lag but I had one but it blew up.

      Yes I remember the first gen. I had a DXC327 with a beta SP back. There was also a Hi8 and DVCAM back for it as well as a CCU back. Never did get that, I ended up with an EVW300 for long form work only because the Hi8 back cost more than I picked up a used EVW300 for, and the EVW300 was about half the weight. The betacam was a company owned asset so when the company folded after by business partner got sick. Poor bastard thought he had the flu. Fatigue and aches and pains just like the flu. When it didn't go away after a few weeks he went to the doctor that ordered blood work. The next day his doc called and brought him in for scans. A day later he got the 3 words that NOBODY wants to hear. Called me December 4 2005 (my daughters birthday) to tell me that he was going in for chemo and would be out of commission for a few months and for me to finish the current project. Didn't hear from him for a few months, called beginning of March just to ruin my 43 birthday to tell me that the treatment didn't work and that there was nothing more that they could do and that he had sold his portion of the business and gave me the contact info for my new business partner, a smart ass that ran a video rental store. That was the last time I heard from him, he passed about a week later. The new partner treated me like a junior employee not a founding partner. I was the producer, camera man, editor. All Gordie did was run the front office, which was meet clients, and get contracts signed, and handle duplicating the hundreds or tapes and DVDs because I didn't have the time for that. I was running a TV repair shop and doing all the production / post production for the video business.
      I remember the new guy calling me telling me he had some 8mm film that was a priority and needed to be done next day and I needed to pick it up from his store. (Gordie always delivered and picked up the order and would wait until he had enough to make it worth while which might have been a week or 2. This goof, the new partner called me out to pick up an order. It turned out to be 1 50 foot reel. That was a 5.00 order and yet I had to not only drive 30KM to pick it up, but drive 30KM back home. Burned about 20.00 in gas for that wound trip as I was driving a car that got about 10MPG at the time.
      Je wanted me to deliver it back and I daid F**k it, I am not bring it back. He drove out and got it refused to pay, so I just told him good luck. Sent the leased betacam back and that was it.

      Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. I plan to take that camera out and actually record something with it and give it a good evaluation.

      No coffee today. Just annoyed at getting a bunch of messages asking if I received email. I answer messages when I answer messages. Sending a half dozen messages isn't going to speed up a response because when I am working, either at my day job, or running my business I don't check messages.

    Is the runtime on the modded battery pack comparable to the old battery when it would hold a charge back in the day?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 9 dny

      Original battery was 45 watt hours which converts to 3125mAh. The pack on there now is 72,000mAh so you do the math!

    • @stphinkle
      @stphinkle Před 9 dny

      @@12voltvids 23 times the Mah! So it should have a much longer run time. Factoring in the battery pack circuitry but I would estimate about 20-22 times longer.

    If you didn't fix the original battery pack it's no longer vintage.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 7 dny

      Like I care. Its not like its going to be used other than for a few test shoots. I don't have a charger for the original pack and am not about to buy one. I just wanted a way to power it up without carrying around an external battery.

    • @Dansbus1
      @Dansbus1 Před 5 dny

      I agree the idea is to play with vintage kit not worry about original shelf queens. I use vmount for my camera’s as I have a universal mount and a couple of good batteries with charger . I also have a lithium car starter which is also good for camera play
