    Crowley and Aziraphale agreed that Crowley would influence the kid toward evil and Aziraphale would influence him to good, and then he wouldn't be evil or good, but just human, but they would still be obeying their bosses.

      I thought this could be the reason especially after Crowley said the kid was “too normal”

      @@ChachiSays Yeah, it almost seems like he's working against his own goal of the child not being evil, but I guess he needed plausible deniability. I have to say, though, I think the way they're "raising" him would lead to one messed-up adult, but maybe that _is_ normal in our society.

    My favourite quote from the book is this "Many people, meeting Aziraphale for the first time, formed three impressions: that he was English, that he was intelligent, and that he was gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide."

    Here's a note about pronouns in the Good Omens universe: Neil Gaiman has explained that angels and demons are "sexless unless they try very hard." In the book, when Crowley is Nanny Ashtoreth, she is referred to with female pronouns. In future episodes, she also wears an abaya (long black woman's tunic), so her pronouns then would be she/her, and when presenting as male, Crowley uses he/him pronouns. Beelzebub's, Pollution's, and Muriel's pronouns are they/them. Even though Aziraphale is canonically non-binary, he always presents as male and uses he/him pronouns. Also, God is referred to by various characters as she, he, and they. Crowley also wears a woman's hairstyle in the very first scene of season 2, based on the character June from the 1946 film A Matter of Life and Death, which is quite a strange and delightful movie.

      In the book, Crowley isn’t the nanny. The nanny is the pagan goddess Ashtoreth, doing Crowley a favor. Likewise in the book, Aziraphale doesn’t pretend to be the gardener Francis - he gets St. Francis of Assisi to go work as the Dowlings’ gardener and influence Warlock to good.

    • @shaynaformity1384

      Neil Gaiman disagrees with you on that one sorry. You are certainly free to have that head canon but it's not something you should push as accurate and factual trying to correct people. A simple google search brings you to Neils's personal blog, where he answered this question.
      "When I wrote that sequence originally, I definitely imagined that Nanny Ashtoreth and Brother Francis were just as written. And by the same token, when Terry and I sat down in 1991 to write an outline of the film of Good Omens, we put in that Aziraphale would be playing the gardener and Crowley would be playing the nanny"

      @inalasahl Před 10 měsíci +6

      @@decadeofmcfly Yes, I have read Neil’s blog and that’s what I said. In the book, the nanny is a woman named Ashtoreth & the gardener is a man named Francis, but for the TV show they had them played by Crowley & Aziraphale. That’s not the only change they made. If you’ve read the book, you know that Ashtoreth & Francis only stayed until Warlock was 6 - after which they were replaced by two tutors, who do seem to A & C in disguise.

    It always made me a bit sad that a lot of reactors, who usually watch queer content, seem to ignore or don't know about Good Omens. So I'm quite happy that you started to watch it. Thanks for the video!

    So basically Aziraphale and Crowley are sort of on their own side. They really like the earth, so they dont want armageddon to happen. So their plan is: Crowley influences the kid to be bad and Aziraphale influences him to be good and now it looks like they're doing their jobs, but hopefully they also canel eachother out so the kid turns out normal and armagedoon doesn't happen. Of course they got the wrong boy and in the process gave a random kid a very weird childhood.
    Btw the book is a really gun read too

    In the book. If music is in the Bentley for more than two weeks it changes to Queen.
    Michael Sheen and David Tennant have such chemistry and became friends they did a thing called 'Staged' with their families.
    Georgia Tennant is a blast on Michael's birthday she referred to him a David's other wife.
    Someone had changed its Wikipedia page and put Michael as a spouse. Georgia replied that he got terrible billing.

I do heavily suggest you carry on the series especially considering season 2 was just released. It’s just a hilarious series! I absolutely adore Michael Sheen’s Azirapale and David Tenant’s Crowley, they do such and INCREDIBLE job throughout the series. They really do the book justice, if not bring it to a new level.

  • @ineffable_ohara8065
    @ineffable_ohara8065 Před 11 měsíci +22

    Some explanations: Crowley is a demon (fallen angel) and works for Hell as an embasador for Earth. Aziraphale has the same job but on Heaven’s side of things. They were supposed to be on opposite sides, but they became good “friends” through time, an information their respective head offices shouldn’t and don’t know. Since they’d been on Earth for so long, they both got extremely attached to it (personal reasons included), and when Armagedom came about, they couldn’t do anything too obvious to stop it as they are kinda bound to their own sides who wish for the end of the world to come about. This is because once the world ends, there will be a great war between Heaven and Hell to determine who stands on top, but this would consequentially destroy Earth, something neither Azi nor Crowley want. So they tried to find a loophole in their orders so they could obey their head offices but act on their own wishes at the same time, hoping the anti-christ would refuse his position as the Destroyer of Worlds.

    Queen's music crops up a lot in this show, because of what was intended as a throw-away joke in the book (I believe written by Terry Pratchett) that ended up being one of the most remembered lines,
    "all tapes left in a car for more than about a fortnight metamorphose into Best of Queen albums.", references to the original joke crop up several times later in the book.
    The book got readers to go and buy Best of Queen albums, and Queen fans bought the book.
    As a result of this Neil Gaiman was adamant that there should be a lot of Queen's music in the show, and Queen were quite happy for them to use it.
    There is more than some people notice, as incidental background music.

    Terry Pratchett didn't like audiobooks, because he felt they were generally not well done, and they damaged the ability of the listener to have thier own idea of how a character sounded.
    From this we get the third baby's description,
    "The Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit, Great Beast that is called Dragon, Prince of This World, Father of Lies, Spawn of Satan, and Lord of Darkness", which reapears five times in the same chapter, possibly in an attempt to put people off from reading it for an audiobook.
    It's not the only time sir Terry Pratchett put a recurring, long or difficult to say phrase in one of his books, but I think it was the first.
