- Well known in the PA, NY, NJ area, the Hawk's Nest portion of route 97's scenic byway draws motorcyclists for its twisties and spectacular views. But its other 70 miles make for great riding with good places to eat as well. Take a few minutes to tour the area with us and learn how it almost never came to be.
I miss the Hawk's Nest Cafe!!!!
Fantastic views Mate, thank you for sharing !
My grandmother lived up in the Catskills near the town of Liberty in the 80s and 90s. When I was a little kid, and we went up to visit her, my father would sometimes drive us to the Hawk's Nest Cafe. It was about a 45-minute drive from my grandmother's house, but it was sure worth it. We would always request a table in back by the large windows, so I could take in the view. It was glorious, and the food was good, too.
I don't remember too much about the interior of the restaurant, other than the deck and the large windows. My experience in visiting the cafe would've been between 1990 and 1994 or so, with perhaps one more visit sometime in the late 90s. So I was there before Ron Babcock took over in 1999. My grandmother moved down to New York City to be closer to her family in 2000, so I no longer had a reason to be up in those parts, and sadly never had a chance to return before the restaurant burned down in 2002.
It's a damn shame he never rebuilt it. I would trek up there from the City if it ever reopened.
Great story, thanks!
Love the ending, I think this weekend we may drive hawks nest.
Shame about the Cafe, but the Carriage House looked inviting. I enjoyed your off-bike camera work!
You know, your channel was so quiet, I was honestly getting worried about you! Glad to see you're around and thanks for checking out my channel again. I hope all is well with you and yours.
@@BikerInAHat Oh, still here and all well, but thank you for being concerned! Nope, just that I haven't much time for leisure this past year or so. But I'm not complaining. Good to see you branching out into other kinds of camera work. RSMF.
Thanks for sharing the video. I'm thinking about checking this place out myself. Thinking the fall colors should look pretty good about now. Though, looks a little sketchy finding a good spot to pull over there in a car for some photos. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching. The areas on the side of the road are ok for parking. They may appear a little smaller than they really are in this video.
@@BikerInAHat Thx!
There used to be a little place with a lot of history on the other side of that bridge called "Rohman's". Worth a stop if you've never been there. Stay Safe
Thanks, I will look for it next time I'm up that way.
That was where Dr. Strange had his car accident.
I did not know that. Just took a look at the scene. Very cool. Thanks!
