    The gold standard for analog emulation to my ears is the DD-7. I love mine, moreso than a real DM-2. Got the DD-8 and they cleaned up the repeats on its Analog setting by comparison. Sounds good but the DD-7 stills wears the crown.

    Dd7 have a more "vintage" sound, I really like it more with his darker tone, but they are both great and it's a choice of personal taste.

    This demo should be listened to on headphones and at a good volume. I don't understand how some of you say that the dd-7 sounds better, even more "vintage" ... The dd-8 has a fuller, fuller and more defined sound, while the dd-7 has a flatter and more metallic sound and eats low frequencies. In my opinion the DD-8 wins and triumphs blindfolded.

    • @endlesscaravan

      @@delaydude You absolutely right dude. The DD-8 delay is very good delay, well packed with great features but its not for me as I am more into dark analog modulated delay.
      Its strange how things change as you grow older. Back in the day when I just started playing guitar I used to love digital delay only but day after day my ears started leaning towords certain type of sounds and tones as I ended up liking tape modulated delays. Its same with the music genre, I was metal head hard rocker guy but when I reached my 40's I realised that I love post rock, ambient and soundscape music more than anything else.
      Interesting isn't it!
      A question for you dude, could you tell me what is your favourite delay from the DD series? My favourite is the DD-3 MIJ
      Cheers

    • @yeauld
      @yeauld Před 4 lety +4

      @@endlesscaravan I even had DD·3 MIJ and honestly at least to me nothing beats the darkness of the DD·7, its just more pleasant to my ears, DD·3 its a little bit brighter more in your face while DD·7 its more tasty like in the background not as invasive with your tone, I got 40 years old ears too and I totally understand why darker/warmer is much better, the bottom line is in the long run you dont get tired listening a darker/warmer sound compared to a shrill/trebly raspy sound, we are getting old man, but wiser too !!!

    • @endlesscaravan
      @endlesscaravan Před 4 lety +2

      @@yeauld Thanks for the feedback mate. I had the dd3 MIJ and sold it three years ago. I agree about your accurate descrption. I like it when I was into bright digital delays. I do think that the dd7 will beat the dd3 MIJ in term of warmth and musicality. I haven't owned a dd7 but from what I've heard on youtube clips I can tell that the best boss digital delays from dark to bright are the dd7, dd5 and dd3 MIJ, at least to my ears. Yea we are getting older, and fingers crossed we keep getting wiser too 😅

    Nice demo. DD-8 sounds to me a bit crispier in the digital modes. Reverse mode is much, much better. I still prefer the Analog Emulation and the Modulation modes of the DD-7 thou.

  • @donaldhightower3573
    @donaldhightower3573 Před 3 lety +12

    The DD-7 is best for acoustic guitar for its darker sound and sits just right. The DD-8 is too bright for the acoustic guitar, since most acoustics have a more full range pickup the brings out the highs of the strings. I owned a bunch of delays to come this conclusion. I hope this helps.

    I have the DD8, it is full of sound possibilities, better then Grand Canyon, with the pedal it has also a twist, but...it needs patience in exploring the sounds by doing various settings, and also depending on what guitar you have, the pick ups, the amp and other pedals all together. Boss is Boss.

    EXCELLENT and informative. Answered exactly what I wanted to know. Unfortunately that's going to cost me a bit more money! But for some people the 7 will be the smart choice, depending on the voicing you plan on using. Same expression pedal controllability, which a lot of people don't know. Great job!

    I just bought the DD-8 and love it! I like the analog mode, it’s not too dark and has the notes tucked in just nicely :) shimmer is very nice, not too over the top which a lot of people seem to prefer? This one is useable :) I think modulation is better over the DD7 because it’s more subtle and would be more useful in a live situation! Too much wobble going on with the 7. I found I love using the warp mode!!! You can do some interesting stuff and get creative, it kind of reminds me of some sort of slow gear thing going on? not sure what the word is :) and ping pong effects are very nice! some complain you can’t do that? You have to hold down the pedal and insert a Jack into input B! The LED will then light up orange, you select stereo mode
