  • This video was recorded in 1983 with an old VHS video camera. It was shot by my dad, Chris Carey from a moving car.
The route starts from Chalfont Road travelling via the estuary towards the village. It travels through the village and up the Hill to Pobalscoil Íosa. Then back down Old Street up New Street and then towards Malahide Caste, Dublin Road and finally past Yellow Walls Road and down Texas Lane.

What a beautiful village even today. My Grandfather Sergeant Ward was the local Garda there in the 60s and 70s.
I’ve lived in San Francisco California now for over 30 years, but I still book a week in the Grand Hotel when I return.

    Malahide, my love.
We live in Sonesta 84 to 86. And egaing 89 to 92. Still remember going for a walk in the Castle , cover in snow, the well at the back of the church, and the books taken from the librery.
You know, how to put a tear of nostalgia on the eyes.
    From Queensland. THANK'S.☘☘☘

Great to see some video from my old home town. Lived in Malahide as a kid from the late 60's to mid 70's. Had great fun growing up there.

Great video! I was 16 when this was filmed, and lived in Portmarnock at the time. Having left Ireland in 1990, this is really how I remember Malahide.

I lived in Baldoyle back then, I was 15 but I remember Malahide that way, I used to go to the fingal sailing school, great days. Thanks for sharing your Dad's video Greg, you could do a new video and run it split screen, (old vrs new) I'd say there would be great interest in it! Thanks again for the drive down memory lane.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing it with us. How far sighted your father was in recording it, what a great bit of video to have and show how much Malahide has changed since then - I can't believe how many things I had forgotten about.
