As the earliest Category 5 storm ever observed in the Atlantic carves a path of destruction through the Caribbean, we get an update on damage from Hurricane Beryl from the prime minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, where the storm hit Tuesday. He describes the disaster scenes he witnessed and discusses the rising challenge of extreme weather fueled by the climate crisis. “The developed countries, the major emitters, are not taking this matter seriously,” says Gonsalves. He says the world must dramatically reduce emissions and that the current political and economic system is “driving all of us towards, if not extinction, to a terrible, inhospitable place called Earth.”

Rebuild plans should include at risk land appropriation to ensure no settlement in low lying areas at risk for permanent flooding and sea level rise. Infrastructure planning needs to account the new reality of sea level rise and weather extremes.
The land doesn't always make that possible. And dont you dare say people should just move. People are suffering because of Fossil fuel companies NOT because indigenous communities have lived in coastal areas.

I got back a week ago from sailing my catamaran from Florida to Grenada. The insurance company give you a deadline to get south of the hurricane belt. There wasn't any space on the hard to haul my boat out so I left it in the marina.

Hurricanes aren't new, and this one wasn't even one of the strongest. This happened in July in 2005 as well, 2 formed in a week. Cat4 and 5.
Governments side with the wicked. They know about the weather modification that leads to these disasters. They are not natural disasters but they are done by organisations like HAARP. Research it.
I do hope that they will truly take this climate change seriously.

I would just like to point out that here in Ireland we are experiencing our COLDEST summer in decades. In May and June we have had just 3 days about 20 degrees Celsius. Over the next five nights temperatures will fall to 7degrees Celsius. Is this proof that the world is now cooling or is it just a weather event????? I have a feeling that hurricanes happen in the Atlantic on a regular basis. Just saying!
If you take the time pay attention and listen you will seethe the predictions of a warming planet are coming true. When we have this kind of weather even like you describe it's due to the instability of the jet stream and warming seas.It's hotter where I am and the fog over the past twenty years has drastically lessened. We had winter storms that were like none seen before. Just because it's colder where you are doesn't mean the planet is not warming. You cannot take one area and say it's cooler than usual so it must be cooling. Pay attention there is plenty of scientific information available to you. Seek it out get with the program because no of us are going to be spared.

The situation is so bad... Peaceful protests, ineffective; throwing colours on oil paintings, ineffective; getting arrested, ineffective; none of the things we did had any significant effect. Lies. Most of those are just minor storms… like a typical thunder storm. In the last 45 years, only one major hurricane hit Jamaica… that was Hurricane Gilbert in 1988; it was a category 4 hurricane. Prior to that, it was a 1951 Storm. I know because I was born and raised there. I was there during Hurricane Gilbert. That was the only hurricane I experienced in Jamaica, while living there for 17 years. I think Hurricane Ivan brushed the island in 2004, but nothing major.
