    After an anxiety ridden few days getting here, this was a welcomed peaceful change of pace for us! Hope you guys enjoy this slower side of things as much as we did! Cheers legends!
    Ps. It shouldn't surprise you, but James actually did have a mad floor routine in gymnastics 😂

    The halibut carcass is what you should use to catch the shrimp! That’s what they’re used to eating. Love the video! Love cruising BC

      Absolutely! I think we caught the fish after we dropped the trap🤔 but totally! Will hold onto it next time for prawn bait 👌🏽

    Beautiful drone footage. I see I have a lot practicing to do. I remember your story of the halibut. Well it seems like you’ve outdone yourselves as far as halibut fish variety cooking. You guys definitely will have to do a cruising cooking show. James you’ve been hiding your gymnastic talents. Love you guys 😘😘😘

    Your Cajun cousins make a Sauce Piquant or blackend flounder which is outstanding. I would recommend stuffing it with a stuffing made of breadcrumbs, crab/prawns, onion, bell pepper, garlic and celery and cooking it whole but you would need a big grill or campfire for a halibut 🤣

    “Sailing Directions” will give you a lot of information about anchorages. They are a government publication so not very exciting reading but have a ton of info about almost every little bay on the coast. Comes in four volumes for the Pacific coast, very handy if you are off the beaten path

    When people say Cat Food, they mean Carlyle Cat Food (Tuna). It is cheap and stinky and oily. Poke a few holes top and bottom, secure in the middle of your trap. Use 2 cans stacked together. Most tackle stores sell it.

    • @AllisonandJamesSailing
      @AllisonandJamesSailing  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Aye, we were ready to give up on cat food and get back to using good old fashioned fish carcasses! But will give Carlyle a go when we see it, cheers!

      Hi Mike, so glad you're enjoying our videos! Our backstory is buried deep in our earlier videos, Ill comment with the link, but it might be time to do a recap, so thanks for that!
      We had minimal-to-no experience starting out. When we bought the boat in 2020 James had only stepped foot on a sailboat once and although my mom & stepdad were sailing the Pacific, I never got the chance to sail with them much as I was in University on the east coast. They were definitely part of the influence to get out and live this lifestyle but we also had a burning desire to see and explore the BC coast (in a way that we couldn't when travelling around in James van)! We've been mostly learning by doing, it's been a wild ride! 😅
      We are making our way North to Alaska although the goal isn't to get there, it's to explore everything along the way which is why we founds ourselves exploring the fjords of the Central Coast this entire season! There's so much to see but we hear it only get's more grandiose so we look forward to that!
      We'd love to hear about your boat! Thank you so much for writing us, cheers!

    Halibut Has me thinking about the beer battered halibut at the Beagle Pub when i used to wash dishes there . Took a nice windy walk on the breakwater and watched the wind switch from SE to SW . Haven't seen many big storms yet but were going to get a lot of water.

      Yess we’ve learned fresh bait in the trap is def the way to go! We had ample fish to eat at this point so we’re happy to have the seals enjoy that big carcass. Might be nice to upgrade the boat with a fridge and freezer 😅

    We've had the identical boat to yours for 30 years now ...still love it! Couple of comments...why don't you have a bow roller?...so much easier on your back!
    Perfect job on the halibut fillet!...but why didn't you save it for the prawn trap!??
    I saw your video on the ice box re insulation....but didn't get any info on the result....I did the outside of mine with moderate improvement....was your inside job worth while?
    Love your videos...good job!

      That’s awesome to hear! We’ve been planning a bow roller for some time but with the narrow bowsprit the options are pretty limited and I think we’re going to end up fabricating something. Lots jobs to get done over the winter! The ice box insulation was defiantly worth it, it keeps ice just as well as yeti cooler, even with the exhaust pipe run behind it!

    • @AllisonandJamesSailing
      @AllisonandJamesSailing  Před 8 měsíci +2

      So glad you're enjoying it!
      We always throw the carcass in for crab bait but never for prawns! Dean was closed to crabbing so we tossed it...
      Curious, has anyone out there tried prawning with a fresh fish carcass?!

    • @kenlarkin6380
      @kenlarkin6380 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I've used it, and it's also used in the northeast to trap lobster and blue crab. It's a natural food source.
      Shrimp are just another crustaceation scavenging food. Try the next time you're out, I'll be watching.

    • @AllisonandJamesSailing
      @AllisonandJamesSailing  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I mean, it makes perfect sense! Crabs enjoy fresh bait so why wouldn’t prawns! I feel silly we haven’t tried it. We’ll definitely give it a go next time👍🏽

    • @kenlarkin6380
      @kenlarkin6380 Před 8 měsíci +1
