  • Direct primary care practices are growing, but experts say it takes the right preparation, marketing, and structuring to keep the models afloat. In an interview, Jesse Hsieh, MD, of Granger, Ind., talks about his own transition to direct primary care, For Dr. Hsieh, the model allows for a more manageable panel size, ample time to spend with patients, and the ability to make a greater impact on their health. Wow... this is amazing. I hope more doctors will begin to make the shift. I think both patients and doctors will start the shift to this system.

DPC is a great idea and wonderful for patient care; however, it is a double cost because a person still needs an insurance plan for hospital care.

You've outlined few things that need to be set up prior to even considering this mode of service. But can you reference more information? Also what is your fee schedule can you provide that info? Appreciate your video. PS. Your side jobs at University is that for supplementing your income or purely for instructional purposes?

I guess my question would be what about people who can’t pay upfront. I’m very interested in learning more about this form of practice.

Does DPC payment count toward deductible? Or do you pay DPC doc and then still have to pay out of pocket to a specialist or to DPC if your needs exceed the terms of the DPC agreement?

    What about for specialized services?

I pay cash for specialized services. So they do exist. I don't do it out of choice, but necessity. I pay cash for physical therapy because I need long term physical therapy. My insurance company reimburses me for some. I also paid cash for something called prolotherapy.
The doctor runs a pain clinic with cutting edge non-drug therapies. I got in for an appointment in less than a week.

@@sijonda No, but I send it in myself and my insurance company reimburses part of it.

My Dr just changed to this type of practice. It will cost me $6,800 a year to see him. I have insurance. They won’t take it. It makes it seem like he sold out his patients for $$$$$

Maybe he is not getting reimbursed by insurance companies or they are paying next to nothing for the visit.
