I lost my friend as I was a teenager. After having a prolonged struggle with the depression he commited a suiside in the age of 19. At first I didn't feel anything when I heard the news about this terrible incident. I was just a numb for a week. Then one morning this song was played in the radio. I broke out crying endlessly. That one particular sentence in the lyrics "where is my friend when I need you most" really touched me and made me feel quilty as a hell. Currenty this song represents me a tribute to the memory of my passed away friend.
Guilt is not what you need. You were a kid. I hear you brother. This song reminds me of my best friend in collage who died way way too young. I couldn't get past the news he was gone. It just didn't make sense. I couldn't understand what really happened. The world never stopped to let me think about what happened - I never got a chance to take a breather and catch up... I just had to go to class, and I had to go to work, and I had pay all my stupid bills, and no one gave a s (h!t) the world never stopped, not even slowed down. I was just numb. Years later I heard this song and I started thinking about Jay again and I started crying too - crying and crying with no end. like it wouldn't stop. It still feels like it'd never end if I let it go, if I let it, I'd just cry for ever.
My wife is at the end of a three year endurance with terminal cancer -44 yrs married - one of greatest concerns is how I will cope once she dies. I stumbled across this yesterday and played it for her with lyrics...letting her know that despite the vacuum in my heart - I will be okay. She was very moved, so glad that in the midst of this I could comfort her.
Feel your pain, recently lost my wife to terminal cancer, Duran Duran were one of her favourite bands, never really paid attention to the lyrics till I heard it this morning on the radio, very poignant tbh 💜👍
My wife died of cancer abruptly 3 years ago. I've had a real hard time with it. I was laying in bed one night "it was her birthday" I was looking at my phone and saw a reference to this song. I thought I would listen to it. I used to hear it on the radio back In the early 90's. Never knew the lyrics, but liked the song. I listened to it with the lyrics and was stunned to learn of what this song was about. It was like a call from my wife to listen to it . I was having a really tough time dealing with her death that day and Christmas was coming in a week. I can really relate to this song. It quickly became one of my favorites if not my favorite.
Many of us all over the world completely understand the lyrics and the perfect rhythm. It's been very rough for a while and we will find what our purpose is to contribute positively to the world around us. Love to all.
Thanks be to the Holy Spirit. [The determined association of this song with "The Evil Within" - a song that has no evil in it whatsoever, proves that the dark side sees what is wondrous and divine in the above].
i am so sorry for your loss. i too, can relate to this song very much. i lost my husband and best friend last dec due to covid and how much things have changed since then. this song hits home for me as well.
Probably in the top 5 of songs from the 90's. This album brought them back into mainstream acceptance and popularity from their slump after the end of the 80's. And my GOD did they hit a home run with this song!!! I miss the 90's but I love today. I no longer live life looking back but enjoy each and every day as it is. *" Every world , is my world"*
For me, this feels like Duran Duran's "swan song". The 80s were the best years of my life. I confess, I do cry for yesterday. I'm struggling to learn to survive, in this "ordinary world".
A rock band called Anubis Gate did a awesome cover of this! Couldn't find their version anywhere online. Only available on the bands boxset called orbits. Costed me a good amount, but well worth it when I heard this track👍
A very haunting and beautiful song. There are a just few songs that when I listen to, time seems to stand still. It is then all the problems of the world seem to vanish while my soul gets lost into the vibe it projects. A timeless piece indeed.
😭😭😭😭.. What a songggggg.. Woooow, it is just a masterpiece... Greetings from El Salvador.... Una obra maestra de la música. Saludos desde El Salvador... 🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻
I lost my son a year ago. Before he passed music was a big part of our daily life. I have heard this song many time before but never really listen to the lyrics. Tonight on my way home it came on the radio and It had a different effect on my emotions. I’ve always loved this song and I consider it one of my favorites but something was different so when I got home I looked at the lyrics and I really studied them and realized just how much connected with my life and the loss of my son. Thank you Ryan for sending this song to me when I needed to truly hear it the most. 21 forever Ryan ❤️
I am sorry for your loss. When i was going through my divorce , i found comfort in songs. This used to be one of favorite songs over 30 yrs ago, it sounded nice to dance with a girl. Only after my divorce did i truly understand this song. I learnt the power of music. When you are happy, its the sound, the beats that you focus on, but when you are sad, its the lyrics.. Its only then that you truly appreciate a song.
To all you friends, those of you who honestly admite to be still crying for yesterday: the subject is saying "I won't cry for yesterday", it doesn't mean he acomplished his purpose yet. Obviuosly, he's still crying while he does the singing... what is is not bad or wrong at all, people sing to comfort themselves, from ancient times till nowadays...
I watched Duran Duran playing this on the Rock n Roll hall of fame and really paid attention to the words. Had to pull up the song with lyrics and sharing it with people I know are missing someone today. Very nice video
I lost my husband of 40 yrs. We were young, full of life, we met each other in 5th grade, and got married out of high school. It's the hardest thing I have ever gone through, is losing my husband, my best friend. The new life I am living is Slow but steady, I miss my old life. My life is not the same, it's lonely. I have dreams of him every night, It helps me because it's like we are together again.
It's amazing how this song has come to my mind at such a time as this. The song, the lyrics, the video are all quite healing right now. They say you don't really love a narcissist and a narcissist doesn't love you. I'm gone from his physical presence. I need to let go....completely.
It's been 30 years since this song first came out. And it's been 19 years since I lost my best friend. This song resonates as much today as it did the night of his death.
"Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and greed. Fear today, forgot tomorrow. Here besides the news of holy war, and holy need, ours is just a little sorrowed talk". - Awesome lyrics!! Puts one's personal heartbreak and grief into worldly perspective. I can honestly say that over the years I have found repeated comfort in these words (this song). From losing my girlfriends to losing my parents. Very, very powerful!
Now I understand this song... I just found out that one of my best friends died... It's so incredible how we think that the people we love will always be there... I miss you, brother... I will always miss you, Herney (cara de nalga).
Agree with you Poetess. You must be an artist at heart because you captured the lyrics so perfectly in your photos in this video. So familiar and yet enhchanting and full of anticipation in a quiet way. Thank you
Easily one of the best songs Duran Duran has done in their extensive catalogue. The lyrics, especially the chorus, just hit hard and tug at the heartstrings. It's no wonder this song is used in so many poignant moments in movies, TV shows, etc. Surprised it wasn't used in The Last of Us Part 2, it should've been as when you think about it, shortly after a beloved character was killed off, the main character had to learn how to survive.
I didn't know this song very well and recently I bought a better amplifier and this came on the radio. It's full of little details, very rich but on pc speakers a lot gets lost and then the compression of course. Still, they put so much work in this song but the result is magnificent.

I can definitely relate to this song right now. I'm now single for the first time in 2 years thanks to what my traitorous and evil ex-girlfriend did to me. Betrayed me in. more ways than one. This song tells me never to give up on myself or life. I know love will find me again someday, but something tells the pain of the wait to find new love is gonna haunt me for a while. Still, I have hope and I'll never give up on myself. I will find that happiness again someday. This song helped me through the pain. Great song with a great message!
I'm a mom.....it's been 4 months....deeply grieving the death of my son....he just turned 16...a car collision took him his farther and their dog... I'm told it will never go away this pain this broken heart......we need to find our ways of learning to live in a different way....this song really speaks of this journey.....blessings strength and love to all those who identify w this song
I woke up with this song in my head this morning. My wife seems to think that subconsciously I'm thinking this is not an Ordinary World anymore, more so. With what is all going on in the world now with Covid, natural disasters and war I believe this to be true.
I never really understood this song till now. As i get older its amazing how much the past has tried to teach me and its amazing how through experiences and ups and downs an consequences have enlightened me. Every days a trip into some new.

😢😢😢I’m so sorry
Wow. This song also reminds me of a good friend who was depressed and committed suicide in 1995.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Ya I'm a survivor of someone's suicide it's strange what brings meaning
This is absolutely beautiful!! Loved Duran Duran back in the day, still a really awesome band. Who, s listening here in 2023??❤

Me
I am listening from Phuket in 2024❤
Their best song in my opinion.
this and "come undone" are about tied for me.
I agree. Only thing that spoils it is terrible 80s drum sound.
Funny how the lyrics fit today and all the maddness
Your opinion is my opinion
@@cfcuker you prefer lars ulrich drum's sound on St.Anger album? 🤭
This is the most poetic description of the grieving process I've seen yet...
Agree

There is a special feeling that this song evokes
God bless the engineers that made your radio.
My wife passend away recently, so these lyrics mean so much to me
Terribly sorry for your pain . . .
I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope you have found some peace. ❤
Lost my wife last year after 53 years together. It's hard. It's music and tears every night in bed 😢

One of the best songs that ever came out of the Generation X era.
Yes, my best friend died of a Drug overdose. I think of her, when I hear this song.

I lost my husband of 40 yrs.
We were young, full of life, we met each other in 5th grade, and got married out of high school.
It's the hardest thing I have ever gone through, is losing my husband, my best friend.
The new life I am living is
Slow but steady, I miss my old life.
My life is not the same, it's lonely.
I have dreams of him every night, It helps me because it's like we are together again.
This is probably my favorite of their songs. I will learn to survive.
"Where is my friend when I need you most"...gone away....very appropriate I can relate...
I have not gotten tired of this song since it came out, I listen to it 6-7 times a week.

Why cara de nalga?
Very cool song
Agree with you Poetess. You must be an artist at heart because you captured the lyrics so perfectly in your photos in this video. So familiar and yet enhchanting and full of anticipation in a quiet way. Thank you
How relevant is this song right now, the line - "here beside the news of holy war and holy need, ours is just a little sorrowed talk"
