    Hasbro has done a great job, and they are continually improving. But, since Bafs are really impressive by their size, I’ll say the highest points are still from toybiz.

    Hasbro now a days have the better looking Build-A-Figures but unlike Toybiz they lack Giant sized Build-A-Figures so, it's about time that Marvel Legends go back to making giant sized Build-A-Figures from 12-15 inches.

    My opinion:
    Hasbro: better proportions, more up to date articulation.
    Toybiz: bigger BAF, more articulations, way better paint jobs and shading.
    Idk if it's just me, but I really liked the hasbro onslaught, I think it's underrated but he's on top for most people's hated baf list, not sure why, proportions perfect, detailing and sculpt. Just lack of paint work.

    Awesome list but Pitt should be up there somewhere. And also it doesn't take the amount of figures you've mentioned to build most them as Toybiz had many variants with extra BAF parts. Like the Sentinel can be built with only 6 figures when it came with 9 figures including variants.

    Collecting the 3.75" scale guys, my number #1 - and it's not even close - is Fin Fang Foom (he looks awesome holding the smaller figures in his hands), and #2 would be Modok (he's a tiny bit big, but still works). The Sentinel and Galactus are lower down for me since both of those figures came out as even larger versions (with awesome sounds) in the 3.75" scale.

  • @gerrysabron

    these are such feel good videos, lol!..got all in retail except Fin Fang, which needed 8 undesirable figures (to say the least) to complete..I don't think the Haslab would compare. The Toybiz Sentinel, awesome as it was, was a free Baf from $8 figures then, the Haslab, is $375.

    I’d have to say Toybiz made better BAF’s because they were bigger and had better paint jobs in general and to my knowledge, they never rereleased any BAF’s as solo figs or in 2packs like Hasbro does(Hulkbuster, Juggernaut and Civil War Giant-Man, just to name a few).

    • @SlasherIncorporated
      @SlasherIncorporated Před 4 lety +3

      As someone who doesn't collect entire waves since I'm not interested in the comic book figures, I LOVE the fact that Hasbro sometimes re-releases BAFs as already-completed solo figures, or part of a pack. It's pretty annoying when you only collect the movie and video game figures, and the BAF is an MCU or game character, but the wave has comic book figures mixed into it. I'm not buying those just to get the BAF pieces. So I support the re-releasing. It benefits me and other similar Marvel Legends collectors.

      PNVGingy Yeah, that’s cool. I think I avoid the comic book figures because I hate the look of them. That’s not a fault of the figures themselves or of Hasbro, obviously. I just don’t like the comic book designs that they’re based on. I prefer the movies’ and video games’ more realistic and modern designs. Just a matter of taste, I guess.

      Size is extremely important. If it’s not significantly bigger than a normal figure then why am I paying so much extra and working so much harder to get it? And given Hasbro’s 30 dollar deluxe line, the BAF exists purely for monetary reasons at this point. Toybiz did it as a way of producing figures that would have never been released in a normal format.

    This is kind of a loaded contest.
    because if you dig hard and deep enough you'll learn that in bits and pieces the information is out there. When ToyBiz was going out of business they became Marvel entertainment. and then when that didnt work out and they were hemorrhaging money, Hasbro made their move and acquired the license. they also acquired the model in the program of what toy Biz had been doing for Marvel Legend. So essentially what you have today is ToyBiz Marvel Legends 2.0. without Toybiz having pioneering what thay did, we wouldn't have the great things we're getting from Hasbro. not to mention we still have some of the original members of toy Biz working behind the scenes to help Hasbro make the best of this line. Both are great and have good things to be happy about. but yeah, it can still be fun to knock around what is better. but for me, my love and greatfullness with this line started in 1988 with ToyBiz selling Bat-Man movie figures in the Warner Brothers catalog. Thay did a few DC figures. And by 1990 thay started makeing Marvel figures. Hasbro had a dark beginning with Marvel Legends as they were trying to flip things back into order and square away the bankruptcy . Hasbro used existing figure molds of the time to build up the Financial backing for the Department. Meanwhile they went back to the drawing board to re-envision what the Marvel Legends franchise would be like. They found a good formula, and still tweek it here and there as new ideas and technology come about. now today we have a new and diffrent kind of Marvel Legends.
    i Love them both, and all the wonderful people young, and old who collect them with me all around the world. Yes, it is bitter sweet. But it is still an amazing ride. Wow what a ride. 👍

  • @cardsfanboy

    Overall, it's tough, if we are judging simply based upon the quality of the build a figures, then Toybiz wins easily... but if we are include the ability to get the build a figure, either as originally presented or in a secondary wave, then Hasbro has to be the king... Toybiz never cared about re-usability of a build a figure... so you got great one off figures, but they had no intention of re-using the molds for people who missed out... Hasbro on the other hand has considered that as a selling point and it's help them create a build a figure, which in turn allowed them to create third tier and fourth tier characters that are required for the build a figure, while knowing that they will re-use the mold for a second or third selling of the figure...
    But Hasbro is never going to produce a Galactus, Sentinel, Apocalypse or Fin Fang Foom type of build a figure... heck Sugarman was a weird choice to be honest.... There is nothing that they can re-use, so ultimately if they want to re-use the mold, it's going to be in about 2 years a store exclusive (although from what I've seen of Hasbro.... it's going to end up being part of a two pack... as long as they think there is interest there)

Yep, you can do that with that figure. Just like I made my Thrasher Suit Batman (from Court of Owls) throw up a double bird. Hey man, articulated fingers. Toybiz does have the better figures, but to be fair, plastic really isn't as cheap as it used to be. That being said, Hasbro has really gotten it's stuff together with paint and articulation, and hopefully soon they'll be up there with Toybiz

    I have a love/hate relationship with BAFs. They are very exciting. But ultimately they are just pure greed and marketing. I don’t think it was in the Toybiz days but now it definitely is. Given Hasbro now doing $30 deluxe figures and $40 dollar “Rider” figures. There’s no reason they couldn’t simply release the figures solo. Collectors would easily pay 30-50 or even more depending on the size. Very few Hasbro BAFs have justified the BAF name.

      I agree but the BAF is a great way to help get more free obscure characters to move in stores

    Let’s be frank here, Toybiz wins it hands down. They had the better size, sculpting, paint work and more bang for your buck. Hasbro is just lacklustre, Fin Fang Foom was one of the earlier BAF Hasbro made that was inspired by Toybiz days, they got lazy afterwards

    • @Nerdzoic
      @Nerdzoic  Před 4 lety +1

    Toybiz BAFs are far more impressive on the shelf. Okoye and Demogoblin are cool, but any given Toybiz BAF is so much more of an eyecatch. I also think the Marvel Universe 19" tall Galactus from 2010/11 is leagues better than the old 2005 BAF.

    I think toybiz made better looking bafs hasbro made better size bafs they both had some draw backs like face sculps body proportions didnt like the finger articulation by toybiz although toybiz look better they were a bit on the short small side hasbro made a nice size figure but lost it on the paint and sculpts...

    Honestly I don't understand why anyone hasn't rioted about how Hasbro has really gone down on their figures. Every one of their figures look like cartoons. Toybiz had made spectacular figures. Especially Spiderman. Spiderman used to have fabricated textures and ultra articulation. Not to mention the lack of toe and figure joints. At first Hasbro was giving it it's all going after toybiz but not anymore. Hasbro does have some nice figures but they recycle everything.
