Hasbro has done a great job, and they are continually improving. But, since Bafs are really impressive by their size, I’ll say the highest points are still from toybiz.
Good call!
What job did you have before this because even on your first video everything from the editing to the script and thumbnail were top notch
Thanks man. Ironically all jobs had nothing to do with video, all various management/leadership development positions. But it taught me attention to detail
Hasbro now a days have the better looking Build-A-Figures but unlike Toybiz they lack Giant sized Build-A-Figures so, it's about time that Marvel Legends go back to making giant sized Build-A-Figures from 12-15 inches.
If this wasn’t only Marvel Legends from ToyBiz I would of went with Pitt. Still to this day my favorite BAF ever.
My opinion:
Hasbro: better proportions, more up to date articulation.
Toybiz: bigger BAF, more articulations, way better paint jobs and shading.
Idk if it's just me, but I really liked the hasbro onslaught, I think it's underrated but he's on top for most people's hated baf list, not sure why, proportions perfect, detailing and sculpt. Just lack of paint work.
I think he looks pretty cool
I think it's because he was released as Red Onslaught, a character from an event that was almost unanimously hated, and didn't have a normal Onslaught head until it was included with Kitty Pryde a year later.
Toybiz mopped the floor with Hasbro in the BAF category. I used to have all of them up till 2019 before selling them all.
Personally I love the 2013 Hasbro Iron Monger Build-A-Figure! Think he's underrated. Sure he's not very articulated and a bit on the short side, but he has a special place in my heart.
Just the character makes me like that BAF
Awesome list but Pitt should be up there somewhere. And also it doesn't take the amount of figures you've mentioned to build most them as Toybiz had many variants with extra BAF parts. Like the Sentinel can be built with only 6 figures when it came with 9 figures including variants.
Thanks for letting me know, others said the same thing but I could have sworn there were that many parts. This makes much more sense
Pitt isn’t marvel
What about Pitt?
And toy biz onslaught
Technically Not Marvel Legends.
Collecting the 3.75" scale guys, my number #1 - and it's not even close - is Fin Fang Foom (he looks awesome holding the smaller figures in his hands), and #2 would be Modok (he's a tiny bit big, but still works). The Sentinel and Galactus are lower down for me since both of those figures came out as even larger versions (with awesome sounds) in the 3.75" scale.
Good choices!
these are such feel good videos, lol!..got all in retail except Fin Fang, which needed 8 undesirable figures (to say the least) to complete..I don't think the Haslab would compare. The Toybiz Sentinel, awesome as it was, was a free Baf from $8 figures then, the Haslab, is $375.
I really want that blob baf. Maybe one day. Sugar man will be mine...eventually.
I know its not in person but if you look for a Glen Webb (rip) video he had several apocalypse bafs he had a black version.
I'm surprised Wendigo didn't make the list. I have to go with Hasbro but that Toy Biz Galactus is pretty dang awesome!
We need a new Blob for the hasbro ML line! Glad you like Juggernaut in this! I wish we could have a re-do for comic Giant man. Love that Fing Fang Foom, we need a redo from hasbro too! While I appreciate Toybiz, I also love what hasbro has done.
I’d have to say Toybiz made better BAF’s because they were bigger and had better paint jobs in general and to my knowledge, they never rereleased any BAF’s as solo figs or in 2packs like Hasbro does(Hulkbuster, Juggernaut and Civil War Giant-Man, just to name a few).
The re-releasing drives me NUTS. Please I expect BIG BAFs
As someone who doesn't collect entire waves since I'm not interested in the comic book figures, I LOVE the fact that Hasbro sometimes re-releases BAFs as already-completed solo figures, or part of a pack. It's pretty annoying when you only collect the movie and video game figures, and the BAF is an MCU or game character, but the wave has comic book figures mixed into it. I'm not buying those just to get the BAF pieces. So I support the re-releasing. It benefits me and other similar Marvel Legends collectors.
SlasherIncorporated fair point, my dude
SlasherIncorporated i mostly agree only i like the comic book figures more
PNVGingy Yeah, that’s cool. I think I avoid the comic book figures because I hate the look of them. That’s not a fault of the figures themselves or of Hasbro, obviously. I just don’t like the comic book designs that they’re based on. I prefer the movies’ and video games’ more realistic and modern designs. Just a matter of taste, I guess.
I think odin shoulda been on here, hes a smaller figure but that wave is what got a lot of people back into collecting
This is a good list, although I'm surprised Venom didn't make it on here. Maybe it's because it wasn't actually Eddie Brock. lol I'm so glad they released the Brock version as it's own figure.
He was on my shortlist
Yeahhhh thank you so much for the content summer has been killing me but this vid has chilled me down
Thanks man that means a lot!
Personally I think that sugar man is what a build a figure should be, something to large or obscure to fit in a box, so for me sugarman is number 1
It’s the best they have done this decade for sure
I love your honest opinions about bafs
Thank you!
Arcticulation wise i think hasbro did better better but siZe definitely toy biz so I say it 50 50 it just depends on your own preference
Hate to say it but the size is important
Size is extremely important. If it’s not significantly bigger than a normal figure then why am I paying so much extra and working so much harder to get it? And given Hasbro’s 30 dollar deluxe line, the BAF exists purely for monetary reasons at this point. Toybiz did it as a way of producing figures that would have never been released in a normal format.
Galactus. They need to rerelease/redo all the old big bois so I can get the ones I missed. Definitely not paying $200 for em 🤣
I had no clue Toybiz released a Sugarman lol
I like the BAF P.I.T.T., it's a huge beast
Who did the BAF better, Hasbro or Toybiz? Sound off!

Toy biz
Hey, can you do a video about the Top 10 most underrated Marvel legends figures?
Soon!
@@Nerdzoic may I get a shout-out? Please
@@Nerdzoic Awesome, I'm a newer Marvel legends collector and I like to see these types of videos (just ML in General) so I really appreciate it!
This was probably the best presentation of a top 10 baf list 👍👍👍
Thank you!
This is kind of a loaded contest.
because if you dig hard and deep enough you'll learn that in bits and pieces the information is out there. When ToyBiz was going out of business they became Marvel entertainment. and then when that didnt work out and they were hemorrhaging money, Hasbro made their move and acquired the license. they also acquired the model in the program of what toy Biz had been doing for Marvel Legend. So essentially what you have today is ToyBiz Marvel Legends 2.0. without Toybiz having pioneering what thay did, we wouldn't have the great things we're getting from Hasbro. not to mention we still have some of the original members of toy Biz working behind the scenes to help Hasbro make the best of this line. Both are great and have good things to be happy about. but yeah, it can still be fun to knock around what is better. but for me, my love and greatfullness with this line started in 1988 with ToyBiz selling Bat-Man movie figures in the Warner Brothers catalog. Thay did a few DC figures. And by 1990 thay started makeing Marvel figures. Hasbro had a dark beginning with Marvel Legends as they were trying to flip things back into order and square away the bankruptcy . Hasbro used existing figure molds of the time to build up the Financial backing for the Department. Meanwhile they went back to the drawing board to re-envision what the Marvel Legends franchise would be like. They found a good formula, and still tweek it here and there as new ideas and technology come about. now today we have a new and diffrent kind of Marvel Legends.
i Love them both, and all the wonderful people young, and old who collect them with me all around the world. Yes, it is bitter sweet. But it is still an amazing ride. Wow what a ride. 👍
I’m gonna say cause no one else is willing to... I love the way Matt moves his mouth when he talks.
Thanks? Lol
Someone had to say it and now I’m feeling smug for some reason?
Kinda wish they'd do this with black series for creatures, ships, dios, I mean id pay an extra $5 for the big ass inquisitor from fallen order as a BAF!
Such a missed opportunity
don't feel bad, Matt. Broski also stole "Toyetic" from the president-bossman of Kenner. good work here, and I LOVE the Major WF pod channel as well, was cool to see a channel I like saying "sup" to another channel I like. Really makes me want to revert my stuff into collectors reviews etc like this.
Nice! Yeah I love those guys.
I'm guessing you've seen the toys that made us great show
Not a Marvel's legends collector at all but I really love seeing the reviews. I gotta say Hasbro really has outdone themselves with the amount of characters released.
If only the vintage collection received that amount of attention though
@@themysterysith can I get a amen in here
I like the Kingpin BAF but I feel it’s a little devalued now that they came out with the retro Kingpin figure.
I like him too, but there is something about the jacket I don’t love
Great content bro. Keep it up.
I can't believe that you think that Toy Biz apocalypses with it's skinny chicken legs is better than the Hasbro one!
Build a figures actually got me to stop collecting marvel legends. I felt compelled to complete them all no matter how obscure the figures or likewise the build a figure
I think the sentinels(baf version) will just get popular since the haslab can b the master mold and have small sentinels as regular ones
aaaah, yes my cup noodles & cereals college days to afford these Toybiz Baf...Perfect Top 10 list.. except some of the rank, but that's specific preferences, Sentinel # 1..some people looking for Sauron, he's 11..you cant have 2 green lizards in one list, his big bro's there.
Agreed!
1. The Sentinel only took six figures to build as Mystique and Omega Red came with the same lower torso piece.
2. Fin Fang Foom took eight figure to make, not nine
I do have to say I have one major disagreement... Sugar man might be great, but Sauron is absolutely a much better figure..... heck I think Wendigo is better.... and that is ignoring figures like Annihilus., Arnim Zola, or Mojo... not even sure how Blob or Sugar man made this list to be honest.
My fav is Cull Obsidian. (Also my only complete one...)
He is a super cool BAF
Ahhh grosss!!!! I just got the deluxe Modok. I’m sorry but age did not go well with that BAF. But I understand, ToyBiz.
I really like the Gladiator Hulk BAF. At the time there was no Diamond Select Gladiator Hulk. The need to make a Mr. Fix Hulk and a Smart Hulk.
Yeah, I agree.
Currently working Sugarman after I finishing that BAF and a few pick other pick ups I plan to try to get the blob.
For the line overall I prefer Hasbro. The though BAFs I would say toybiz but the thing is I feel Hasbro could do it, make giant BAFs again Fing Fang Foom proves it. I just hope when they said the are working on the tallest BAF ever I am hoping it is not that teased stiltman.
Stiltman would be sick
But you never included the Hasbro Apocalypse Build A Figure which is better then the Toybiz one
Venompool is still the best designed one, he looks incredible. In terms of FOMO Galactus is my pick
I'd say toy Biz did a better job with giving the size because build a figures should be a lot larger but Hasbro is done a good job in giving us a diversity of characters because they've given us build a figures that we never thought would cut build a figures
I like TB BAFs for the excellent detail and paintwork and most of all, the large BAFs that Hasbro doesn't really give us besides Fing Fang Foom.
I loved the Blob too from Hasbro!
I think I prefer the new Galactus to the old toy biz one
The new Apocalypse BAF is such an improvement over the Toybiz one
Overall, it's tough, if we are judging simply based upon the quality of the build a figures, then Toybiz wins easily... but if we are include the ability to get the build a figure, either as originally presented or in a secondary wave, then Hasbro has to be the king... Toybiz never cared about re-usability of a build a figure... so you got great one off figures, but they had no intention of re-using the molds for people who missed out... Hasbro on the other hand has considered that as a selling point and it's help them create a build a figure, which in turn allowed them to create third tier and fourth tier characters that are required for the build a figure, while knowing that they will re-use the mold for a second or third selling of the figure...
But Hasbro is never going to produce a Galactus, Sentinel, Apocalypse or Fin Fang Foom type of build a figure... heck Sugarman was a weird choice to be honest.... There is nothing that they can re-use, so ultimately if they want to re-use the mold, it's going to be in about 2 years a store exclusive (although from what I've seen of Hasbro.... it's going to end up being part of a two pack... as long as they think there is interest there)
My favorite build a figures are, crimson dynamo, Ultron 10 years of mcu, and gamerverse abomination. The 10 years of mcu Ultron figure is already a completed figure but it originated as a build figure but because the 10 years of mcu is an upgrade and the old build a figure version is outdated now
I am mad that venompool was not on the list
7:08 it sounds cut here because the video audio was cut
I like how you aren't one of those people going. Well the smaller ones because it's better for ACBA
Nah, I like some bulk to my BAFs
@@Nerdzoic ye. It's too sad some are like that. I mean why would a big bulky character do spider-man poses. I prefer athstetic over articulation but I do love articulation.
If u have an ugly figure with the greatest articulation ever it can't look good. But statues look great on display
The early toybiz ones were great
I like hasbro approach towards the build a figure toyline! They have gotten better in recent years with their character designs!
For sure. Thank you Lamont for watching Nerdzoic.
I'm biased to Habro becuase you can still get them without sacrificing your first born to the Ebay gods.
Hulkbuster was actually the first time I bought an entire wave in one go from a store!
I have half of these but I'm not sure if my Fin counts cause he's the KO version, which I got lucky and he's perfectly fine, good plastic/articulation/pegs, just with slightly different paint details.
MODOK was my first BAF since I got him back when I was collecting the smaller 3.75" Marvel Universe line before it got terrible and died off. He worked great as the huge version sometimes depicted in various media surrounded by a buncha AIM mooks.
The Fin KOs I’ve seen have been really good actually
A local toy shop in my town that specializes in getting retro figures and buying people's old toys has that M.O.D.O.K. figure and the owner displays him with his left hand picking his nose! Yep, you can do that with that figure. Just like I made my Thrasher Suit Batman (from Court of Owls) throw up a double bird. Hey man, articulated fingers. How does that get past everyone the figure has to pass through to make it to production without at least someone raising their hand and saying, "Won't kids make this figure give the middle finger?".
I cant find the head for juggernaut, the price for me is too much.... I'll get it one day
toybiz has the disadvantage of being 20 years younger ... that's why toybiz wins by a lot
You need to ask my fellow toy collector...Toybiz..Nuff said.🤓
I love the baf galactose more than the Haslab, I know the haslab is better but it’s just to expensive and the figures it comes with. But if you just want a gala the figure get the toybiz baf it guess for like 120 now I think
This is because i love the ultimate spiderman comics, but my favorite is the ultimate green goblin
I really want a new galactus baf. Old one is too expensive for me
I get a fin fan fong complete and super clean in a goodwill for $10
i really like venompool, monster venon and super skrull
MODOK is my most wanted.
He has really jumped in cost to acquire later too
Hasbro, and mcu vulture has great posability and warlock cause of the sculpt for my honorable mentions
What about cull obsidian
Good stuff
OMG I love you videos!
Thank you so much that means a lot!
I'm assuming that toy biz is no longer around?
Hasbro for the win
Toybiz does have the better figures, but to be fair, plastic really isn't as cheap as it used to be. That being said, Hasbro has really gotten it's stuff together with paint and articulation, and hopefully soon they'll be up there with Toybiz
Much has changed in the past 15 years
I've never been a big fan of BAF waves since half the wave is usually filled with filler characters I have no interest in.
What about Sauron ?
Didn’t crack the top 10 but I loved him
Easily Toybiz wins. BAFs have to be either tall and/or beefy!
Bit of random one but I kinda wish we could get a Haslab figure of Marvel's Godzilla.
That would be cool
I have a love/hate relationship with BAFs. They are very exciting. But ultimately they are just pure greed and marketing. I don’t think it was in the Toybiz days but now it definitely is. Given Hasbro now doing $30 deluxe figures and $40 dollar “Rider” figures. There’s no reason they couldn’t simply release the figures solo. Collectors would easily pay 30-50 or even more depending on the size. Very few Hasbro BAFs have justified the BAF name.
I agree but the BAF is a great way to help get more free obscure characters to move in stores
I agree but the BAF is a great way to help get more free obscure characters to move in stores
Personally I'd put Sauron higher than several of these... But that's just me I guess. 👍
Let’s be frank here, Toybiz wins it hands down. They had the better size, sculpting, paint work and more bang for your buck. Hasbro is just lacklustre, Fin Fang Foom was one of the earlier BAF Hasbro made that was inspired by Toybiz days, they got lazy afterwards
For a long time I thought foom was a Toybiz
Nerdzoic Glad I corrected! Annihilus, Fin Fang Foom, were the earlier series inspired by Toybiz. We hardly get those huge BAF these days
Toy biz by far I have all the build a figures from them
TOYBIZ. Definetely
Toybiz BAFs are far more impressive on the shelf. Okoye and Demogoblin are cool, but any given Toybiz BAF is so much more of an eyecatch. I also think the Marvel Universe 19" tall Galactus from 2010/11 is leagues better than the old 2005 BAF.
Toy biz for sure.
Toybiz rules
I got all of them. Sentinel is my favorite
Awesome
@@Nerdzoic Second is Galactus. Thanks for ur cool videos man. New subscriber here
I can agree with all of these. But I do think Mojo should’ve been here.
Not gonna lie, he was on the short list
i still have the galactus BAF!
I still have my galactus. I have had him since I was 5
Awesome!
Toy biz all the way has always done a better job with BAF and action figures as well. The quality of plastic is top high notch 👌 of toybiz and color shadding as well
What do you think about BAF Thanos? (Infinity War and Endgame)
Dislike...looks like California Raisin
ToyBiz = The Best BAFs
I think toybiz made better looking bafs hasbro made better size bafs they both had some draw backs like face sculps body proportions didnt like the finger articulation by toybiz although toybiz look better they were a bit on the short small side hasbro made a nice size figure but lost it on the paint and sculpts...
I say both
How would you know if a BAF is a knock off? As a matter of fact any marvel legends figure?
I think toybiz did a better job of making huge bafs with great paint apps, but I think the quality of the figures and the articulation has to go to hasbro.
Hasbro all the way !
Honestly I don't understand why anyone hasn't rioted about how Hasbro has really gone down on their figures. Every one of their figures look like cartoons. Toybiz had made spectacular figures. Especially Spiderman. Spiderman used to have fabricated textures and ultra articulation. Not to mention the lack of toe and figure joints. At first Hasbro was giving it it's all going after toybiz but not anymore. Hasbro does have some nice figures but they recycle everything.
