    HOT PRO TIP! If you use oil instead of butter in that cast iron skillet and heat it while the oven is preheating to 400 you can then immediately pour the cornbread batter in and it will come out with that crispy golden exterior while the interior is still fluffy and airy. It’s the only way to do it in the South lol.

      Aye, it's gotta sizzle when you pour it!

    • @Gigi-fv9ky
      @Gigi-fv9ky Před 4 lety +3

      In the deep south, it wouldn't be oil, it would either be bacon grease or crisco, or both, but yeah to the rest of it. :)

    All y’all got the wrong idea
    Frankie isn’t showing you exact recipes because it’s supposed to be an idea
    You’re supposed to gather the concepts of the episode and then work from there
    Concepts like:
    Buy dried ingredients
    Make a large batch, then portion it out for the week
    Many ingredients are actually cheaper than you think
    Etc.
    The point of the price tag at the end of each recipe is meant to emphasize how cheap you can go

    63 cents for a tomatillo??? Where I live in the summer, I can’t get them at all. In the winter, I live in the City and can occasionally get them, but they cost an arm, a leg, and my firstborn. I love your stuff, dude, but the cost of living is way lower where you are, and the ingredients are more readily available. I wonder how many of your fans are in the same boat.

    I don't know if i'm being an obvious boi here or not, but planting your own crops saves you more money and you should do it to save a lot of bucks. It only needs water and sunlight for you to grow them, but you can save some cents for other ingredients by getting the stem and planting them. I saw it on a video and I think it'll really help! You buy it once, plant it, and harvest it forever! You can also save time, money, and water by grafting because you save money by not buying too much pots.

    Even though i love this series and i'm addicted to it, i hate the concept of the FREE FLAVOUR. Let's be real, if you're looking into struggle meals i can't ever believe that same human being would have a drawer full of a million different condiment packets, because that implies that you have been eating out or ordering food, i mean that makes absolutely no sense, this ruins the whole concept of the show for me :c I would like it if you guys removed the "free flavour" concept and added the condiments to the end price of the meal, it wouldn't be that much of a big deal, but it would be a lot more truthful to the struggle meal concept.

      I increasingly suspect, that it's just a work around. After all how much does a pinch of salt and pepper cost, or a splash of siracha? Almost nothing, but if he would use 'real' stuff he'd have to list it. (And I really would not want to do the math/ figure out how much a spoonful of salt, that sells for 19ct a 1/2 pound, costs)

      I work at a convenience store. We have free packets of salt, pepper, mustard, mayo, ketchup, relish, hot sauce, packets of chopped onions, sweet and sour sauce, sugar, sugar substitutes. We Do Not Count It With Our Inventory. We assume some people take it by the handful and we order when we run out. There's no reason people can't have a drawer full of free flavor. Not everyone who comes into our store buys something. And that's fine.

      @FaerieDust Před 5 lety

      I don't think it's available anymore, but I have a Grundig BL5340 - it's an immersion blender that came with a balloon whisk and a small food processor (not quite small enough to call a chopper).
      The two main things I think you should look out for are 1) the attachments - do you need/want anything more than just a blender? It's quite space effective to just have attachments rather than full on extra appliances (I wouldn't have bought a separate food processor, but I'm really glad to have one). The sets are often more expensive, but if you'll actually use the attachments it's absolutely worth it.
      2) The wattage - a more powerful motor can make a world of difference. Not always, but if you're picking between two otherwise equal ones I'd err on the side of higher wattage.

      Well with spices you the pack/bottle to last for a long time, eggs you buy In packs you can use it in other recipes like fried rice, breakfast, lunch and more. All you need to do is meal plan for the week to know what you need to buy so you don't over buy.

      How are they supposed to price the recipes if they don't divide it up into serving sizes? Are they going to put the price of 6 eggs every time they use 1 egg?
      I think the premise of the show is that you're a bit of a foodie but you have limited funds. So the idea of growing your own herbs or having, I dunno, a pack of cumin in your cupboard because you use it regularly isn't out of the question.

    • @mdalgona
      @mdalgona Před 5 lety

      Salsa verde isn't necessarily Mexican. It can be Spanish, Italian, etc. It just means green sauce made with herbs.
      I'm not saying I know what traditionally goes with Arepas though.

      I love this series, but that was a really bad rendition of an arepa. It was soggy and needed more time to cook! An arepa tales Time, never 2 minutes per side haha.
