- Legends! It's now the third day of the Wilson Tackle Swains Reef trip. Clint and I spend the day fishing the reef for tasty reef fish, with a bit of jigging thrown in as well!

Just got back from a Swains trip myself. That place really goes off! Of course I am in no way as good a fisherman as Sammy, but we did pretty well. We got our share and came away very happy with a similar selection of species! The weather also behaved for us and we had similar conditions. It's heartening to see so many legal trout being caught be recreational fishermen!

G'day Bob, yeah mate they worked a treat out there! I used the 5inch live shrimps, 6inch cherabins ad 110mm fish traps
Here in the states our "reeling" is just the opposite..Most crank spinning reels with their left hand and conventionals with their right..Just found that to be a tad strange...Enjoy !

I fish in similar places but i have been using the traditional method of just hand reeling. wanted to upgrade to rod and reel
I was going to go with size 5000 reel with 18kg max drag.
can you recommend me what size braid to use and what strength of a rod to use. Would really help me out. Thanks in advance.

Took me 30 years to try left handed.. went through a stage of chopping and changing everytime I went for a fish...now I can't imagine going right handed reel.
Its the way of the future! I was the same, took me a while to get the hang of it, but once you get it you never look back!

Sammy Hitzke Fishing will do mate, it’s getting pretty bad but there’s still a few puddles about holding some good fish, I’m lucky one of my better spots doesn’t get pumped out of which is a rarity at the moment. Yeah hit me up mate and we’ll throw some top water for them👍

Left handed reel is the actual correct way for right-handed people, cause the strong hand should hold the rod!
Most fishermen in the US an AU do it the exact opposite way and then you see them during a fight changing hands to pump up fish cause they struggle with the left to hold the rod...!!!???

It’s about the touch and feel you have in your dominant arm/hand/fingers to be more successful and have more control! To feel the smallest bite and nibble, to react faster to strike and use the right power!! That’s not so easy
having these abilities on your non-dominant arm/hand/fingers! That’s why you can see all the guys after every wind changing arm for a controlled pump 😉
Man R. Luckily me and all the other left hand rod holders have tuned those skills and senses by holding the rod in our left hands from a young age😉
