  • Interlaken has shops aplenty geared toward tourists, but there is one little shop that tourists might overlook - Chäs Fritz cheese shop. The store sells mostly locally made cheeses, but they have cheeses from other regions of Switzerland and surrounding parts of Europe. This shop is also run by a family of cheese makers who know all of the cheese makers in the Jungfrau region. When we were there we met the wife of the husband and wife team who run this shop and another Chäs Fritz shop in Brienz. She was SO helpful and nice. It wasn't busy, so she answered our questions and made some cheese recommendations base on her and her family's preferences. This shop is where many of the cafes and restaurants in town get their cheese from, and many of the locals who live in the area also buy their cheese there. If you love cheese or just want to try some of the local cheeses, you will be surprised at just how inexpensive excellent cheeses can be when you are buying it straight from the cheese makers or friends of the cheese makers who made it.
