  • This is the story of Kate Reid and Lune Croissanterie, a career change, an idea and a cult croissant that's captivated a city.
To boldly queue for early morning croissants is part of the Lune Croissanterie experience, so set your alarm early for a taste of world-renowned pastries (that take three days to make) and have quickly become Melbourne's cult croissant.
In a space-themed bakery in Melbourne's north lies Lune Croissanterie by Kate Reid. Attracting people from around Australia and the rest of the world quite literally, traditionalists can wrap their old-school mitts around French croissants, pain au chocolat and Danishes, while adventurers, can get their cruffin fix, or try the Lune Lab - a three-course experimental-pastry flight.

What irritates me about these artisan bakeries in Melbourne, is that this is normal bread in Europe and we sell it at a premium

Majority of croissants in Paris are actually low quality. The ones at Lune are high end flaky. But very expensive.

Was in Paris for the weekend, walked by a small bakery that had the most amazing flakey butter croissants and more, for only €1.40. Good croissants do not need to cost a fortune.

The staff there are lovely but they present the food like they're showing you the hope diamond. What should be an efficient purchasing process takes takes 4 times as long (adding to the length of lines) because they're having a formal presentation about pastry. The food is high quality but not worth a 2 hour wait in a line of people taking selfies. The croissants are more flaky than substance.
