To foster communication within the church and minimize conflict, many churches set aside deacons as did the Church of Jerusalem. Deacons are selected and ordained by the church congregation. The role of the deacon body in a religious community is multifaceted and integral to the overall functioning and spiritual health of the congregation. Having served for many years as a pastor, my Church Council was my Deacon Body. These deacons served as my right arm.
