Growing up here in Nigeria, I can relate to not knowing what it’s like be celebrated on your birthday. The first time I received a cake was when I turned 14 or so. Birthdays haven’t really been a big deal for me, just a time to be grateful.
EDIT: Maybe my comment rubbed some of you a certain way. I did not say that everyone in Nigeria doesn’t celebrate their birthday. There are many reasons people don’t celebrate birthdays, some could be personal or religious beliefs. But maybe I didn’t make myself clear enough, and for that, I apologize.
I grew up in Nigeria and every year my mum celebrate us by inviting friends even thoughsome are low keyed. But all my siblings were celebrated with cake, jollof rice and drinks...

Teres Major, although some people may find that I sad thing , I think it's really cool and I admire you and Lamb and anyone else who celebrates their birthday that way , I truly do , to me it's so special that that's the way birthdays are celebrated. Growing up in America I had birthdays but it's always been in carnival season so I never had bitthday party with friends around, just family coming over to eat cake , and that was way more than enough for me , for some reason, even young , I didn't like to celebrate my birthday, when I was old enough ,maybe 10 or so , I asked if we could just have family over for a meal , because that's what I enjoyed , being around my family , watching them be together and smile and laugh and tell stories, I'm 33 now , and I celebrating the same way , having dinner with my kids and parents, because they are young , my parents will take them to get me gift , but I love the way they gift, hand made cards and a favorite snack of mine , which I always end up letting them share ❤️ Many blessings to you , I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed new year .
