Hazel Dickens' voice had an immediacy and directness which belied its artfulness; it was a voice of strength, conviction and raw honesty. But in addition to her extraordinary singing, Hazel distinguished herself as a unique and passionate songwriter. Covered by artists as renowned as Laurie Lewis, Dolly Parton, Hot Rize, and Lynn Morris, her songs drew from hard experience, firm values, honesty and steadfast integrity. Hazel Dickens passed away April 22, 2011, at the age of 75 from complications of pneumonia, leaving a musical legacy and a truly unique voice for the ages.
This seminar features a biographical portrait of Hazel, along with remembrances by dear friends touching on her strength of character, her loyalty, kindness, encouragement, and the many lives she's touched. Panelists also cover Hazel's raw and powerful songwriting style and the reach of her music outside the greater bluegrass community, as well as her voice, delivery and rapport with her audience.
The presentation is highlighted by some of Hazel's best known songs sung by special guests. Join us and be truly inspired as we journey through the life of a uniquely genuine and remarkable woman.
