  • The ending to the greatest game of all time...in near perfect quality...
Conker's Bad Fur Day...the ending to a game you would never expect. It came flying right at my face like a brick, so unexpected and so poignant, contrasting with the whole game that I had grown to be attached to. All in just a day Conker's world turned upside down. He, like so many VG heroes before him, he spends the whole game trying to get home and rescue his girlfriend, and has fun doing it. He has a lot of laughs, and violence... However, at the zero hour when his girlfriend dies, and he's momentarily given the powers of a god, he's impulsive and short sighted, forgetting the whole reason for his quest, like the player does, who's just here to have fun. He's rewarded in the end, but he doesn't want fame and fortune, he just wants his lost love.
Although it all ended in tragedy, this ending set a perfect climax to Conker's story. It's quite ironic too considering Rareware's original ending to this game... The game's original ending was very dark. It involved Conker walking up to a mirror in the pub, bursting into tears, pulling out a gun and aiming it at his head. The screen would fade out, and a gunshot is heard, indicating that Conker had committed suicide. This ending was dumped because "It didn't spot much for a sequel." It makes me wonder how ironic it would have been if they had used that ending considering Rareware's demise at the mercy of Microsoft...Honestly...it would have been a good ending...but at the same time, I really liked how they did end it with Conker leaving the pub in a state of depression...he looks around...just like he did in the beginning of the game...everything connected full circle...it was beautiful...And the fact that Conker walked away in the opposite direction from that he took in the beginning of the game was also powerful. I'm not to sure which ending I would prefer...both are amazing...Just like this game is...

@@azariah_kyras "Ain't gonna happen" as Conker put it, not really that it's Microsoft, but that most of the old Rare team from 2 decades ago are no longer there, including Chris Seaver who a few months ago had posted a lot of plans for Conker's intended sequel "Conker's Other Bad Day" (assuming Conker had released on the Gamecube prior to Microsft and Xbox classic after), a plot, a list of characters, a map, mission descriptions, sketches. Unfortunately it is confirmed it's not happening as Chris himself said he has pulled the plug on it. If it were ever brought back, which so far with "young conker" which was a mistake and "Conker's Reunion" which was only a portion of Project Spark, it would be better off if he was to rest in peace... I was heart-broken that first time though.

The true irony to this ending is that throughout the entire game, Conker is depicted as this greedy and selfish character who's only interested in helping out others just as long as there's some sort of compensation involved. What he doesn't realize is that his contributions throughout his journey actually left a lasting impression on the people around him. This results in him unintentionally gaining the respect of the other supporting characters to elect him as the new king, thus making him the richest man in the world.
For somebody who's as money hungry as Conker, this should've been the perfect ending for him. But his self-centeredness got the best of him when he wasted his golden opportunity with the developer's wishes by focusing more on disposing the alien as well as requesting trivial things that didn't really matter. If he stopped and looked at the bigger picture, he could have requested the developers to bring Berry back to life, which would've given himself the true ending that he really wanted. After realizing his mistake, it seemed like no amount of wealth or fortune could ever fill that void of losing the special someone who meant the most to him.
This is probably the only video game I can think of that actually has a moral. The people who are the closest to you matter the most above everything else. As Conker himself said, "You really don't know what it is that you have, until it's all gone..."

I just finished this game today. Wow. Gotta say, that was a twist I didn’t expect. The Alien fight (at least for me) was incredibly frustrating, and I think that was intentional. Rare made the final boss cheap so that the player would feel satisfied once they beat it, but instead of satisfaction, you just feel worse as nothing improves for Conker, just like the rest of the game, he doesn’t experience a single joyful moment as people die around him, leave him, or are just rude and unlikeable. The only Motivation he had was Berri, and now that she’s gone, the only thing he has to look forward to is heading back to the bar and drinking away his problems. Forever.

It's amazing to think how iconic Conker is as a character, even with just one game. edit: i was japed. i apologize. please stop telling me such. i still think this would be a neat idea should a followup happen.
This isn't even the saddest the ending was originally supposed to get.
in the original ending, conker would have shot himself at the bar. in the head. (and presumably decline any revival chance gregg would have given him.) the only reason why this DIDNT happen was because it's set up for a sequel.... that never came.
on second thought, maybe this achieves the same effect as conker outright shooting himself, though in a meta perspective. the endings have both achieved the same effect: no sequel to this game is announced, and it's 2018 at the time of writing this comment. most of rares alumni are gone, and rare is a ghost of its former self....chances are, we're NEVER getting a sequel to what might have been.
and from interviews, the sequel would have had just as depressing an ending as the first did. heck, the story was already mostly written. conker ends up blowing all his money on booze, presumably in an attempt to kill himself. he was then jailed. the game would have started with conker escaping from prison. also, berri would have returned. as the villain. she was revived as a terminator-like being and dubbed "the panther queen."

That would've been a perfect "Fuck you, now cry and die" type of sequel.
Conker blaming himself for Berri still, drinking until his liver's destroyed even on an immortal level, Berri being brainwashed to hurt him just to drive the point home and Conker facing a decision whether or not to kill or reprogram her, that would've been the best Drama game in years.
The ending, in my guess, would be that he finally saved Berri, but eventually died for real from all the damage he racked up in his mortal lives. Death himself is happy he's done dealing with Conker's infinite lives, Conker experiences the Void of the afterlife after committing so many atrocities with only his love canceling them out, and thus he's in the lowest tier of heaven imagineable, Limbo.
That would've set up yet another sequel for a resurrection ritual or something to get Conker out just one last time.

On the notion of a sequel, I recall hearing the game director, Chris Seavor, commenting that he and hia team are too old to make a sequel. It's kind of sad to hear, but they said that they're not the same people today as they were when they made the game, which makes the possibility of a sequel unlikely. Even if a sequel were to be made, it'll probably end up like the Project Sparks Conker game where jokes fall flat and pop culture references are forced and uncreative. I'd love a sequel in the same spirit, but part of me has become content with Bad Fur Day being the only game of its kind.

I'm honestly not too sure how the Microsoft acquisition affected Rare as a company, but one thing I will say is that Rare is not the same as it was back then. Pretty much all the key staff who made the older, iconic Rare titles left the company, and the people who are working there haven't really proven themselves yet to make some of Rare's flagship titles (ex: Banjo, Perfect Dark, Battletoads). Quite honestly, I think Sea of Thieves will bomb. It looks unimpressive and doesn't really appeal to the mainstream market.
If I recall correctly, I think the people who are working on Sea of Thieves were the same people who worked on the Kinect titles because they were "excited" about what they could do with the Kinect. With that in mind, I have no trust in any product made by a group of people who thought that the Kinect was a product worth investing in and could entertain people.

Heinrich is about to kill Conker immediately, Conker would get a chance to avoid his death, So he jumped backwards and Heinrich gets inside again, But this time, Conker beats Heinrich up once more, This time He manages to rip Heinrich's head off and Heinrich's lifeless body gets sucked into Space, Conker has a idea to save Berri, He risks his life to jump into Space, While Conker is flying through Space, He grabs Berri and falls into Earth, Conker lands in Water with Berri's corpse, He finds Gregg in time and asks if he can revive Berri, Gregg said Yes, But Conker has to give Berri a Squirrel Tail, and Conker did and Berri was brought back to life, Conker and Berri go into the Panther King's castle, Franky says that Conker is now King, Everyone and Berri is on Conker's side now, Conker starts liking the People he hated, and enjoys being King, Berri goes back to her house, and Conker happily goes to The Cock And Plucker and gets drunk, He's happy of what he's done and goes back home.

"You don't really know what it is you have until it's gone". That's pretty much the case with losing relationships. If you miss your chance to meet someone great when you're young, you'll never see the joy of youth the same way again. That's what I regret.
The other meaning to this ending is actually a sad truth about adulthood for many people, which is that we may never get want we really want, even the kindest relationships. Conker's Bad Fur Day proves a point that no matter how much trouble and trials that you go through in life, you still get nothing.

I was 8 or 9 when I finished this game and the ending always stuck with me. I always imagined the future and what kind of hardships I would go through, and who or what I would end up missing once it was gone and I can't get it back. Over the last 20 years every time I lost someone or something very important to me I always think back to when I was a child and remember the thoughts going through my head at the time. Even tho I couldn't understand most of this game's contents at the time, this quote will always stick with me. "...And you really don't know what it is you have until it's gone... Gone... Gone..."

The biggest difference between Banjo-Kazooie and Conker, is that the Banjo games had happy endings, while Conker is everything but. My idea for this is the fact that Conker had a darker premise because adulthood is much more serious and strict about what typically happens for people with bad and depressing circumstances in their lives. Kids have nothing but happiness in their lives, full of loving friends, but adults become reluctant and jaded if their lives are not fulfilled, because as we grow from teenagers to young adults, we have more desire for a relationship, but if we don't any love, we're not happy, and it can be the same situation if you think you're failing with work or potential that may not succeed for you. We become much more purposeful and responsibility-oriented when we become adults, and we also care more about relationships than kids, but it's a shame if our desires are not fulfilled. That's what happened to Conker, because he realized that he's lost everything that he really wanted, as if it was meant to happen because it was very typical. That's the circumstance for people that deal with rejection and helpless failure, and trust me, I know the feeling, because life is tough to get by, especially without companionship. When it comes to trouble in an adult's life, we somehow have no choice but to pout about it if we don't get any help, and that's where Conker had unfortunately ended up, but he didn't deserve it. Worse yet, just listen to the music at the end, and that perfectly signifies how dark an adult's life full of trouble and rejection can be, and it could typically last forever in many cases.

Conker's Bad Fur Day was the "Scream" spoof/ self-aware Rick /Morty(nearly any Western animated show today) of gaming, only done right and a true classic that became more relevant after 20 years. To love this game as a primary school kid and to play it again as an adult was wonderful. We came for the toilet humour and sense of rebellion as kids and stay for the gold that was Conker's Bad Fur Day.

In the post credits bar scene, Conker was originally going to pull out a gun and shoot himself at the end, through one last context sensitive input. It ended up abruptly ending with him leaving the bar like the introduction instead.
This didn't happen because it didn't leave an opening for sequels. That right there is tragic irony.
