2 of my all time favorites: Gregory Hines and Eleanor Powell, both taken from us too soon. I still mourn for the loss of Hines. Without him we would not know nearly as much about the all time great dancers. Nicholas Brothers especially. And Eleanor Powell combined the grace, flexibility and precision that most other dancers only dream about. What a talent. She passed from ovarian cancer and had a sad marriage to Glen Ford but her dance career surpasses all others in my opinion.
Agreed. I had the honor of getting to know the spectacular Eleanor Powell personally, and I can vouch for this ! Not only was she an incredible movie star 🌟, but she was also one of the sweetest ladies I've ever had the pleasure of knowing !
One critic called this film 'the summit meeting' of dance on screen- the best man and the best woman. Moreover, it was shot in 1939 and released on New Year's Eve, so it just about made it in what is usually regarded as Hollywood's peak year: 'Gone With the Wind', 'Ninotchka', 'Stagecoach', 'Destry Rides Again', 'Only Angels Have Wings', 'The Wizard of Oz'...
Eleanor Powell what can you say except the greatest. And Gregory Hines, what a great dancer himself. A man who brought the Nicholas Brothers to the attention of a whole new generation. Sadly, all gone. Mr. Hines knew there would never be another generation with such an abundance of talent as we had in the golden era of movies and Broadway in the 30s/40s. Thanks for keeping them alive Mr. Hines. You are sadly missed.
This dance scene I consider the greatest in film history. Forget Astaire/ Rogers Eleanor , as a female tap dancer was on a higher plain than anyone else

there are no angels. he's dead! not dancing.
Gregory Hines had it right!
I would have liked to see more of the dance routine
Easy to watch on CZcams and recommended right after this video.
It was '40.
It was the 1940 version.
Fred would never say who his favorite dance partner was possibly it was Eleanor Powell?
He claimed that it was Rita Hayworth. But Eleanor Powell was the best female Dancer he danced with.
Where is the whole number posted?
CZcams
I heard after that movie, Fred Astaire was totally intimidated, to dance with her, would never do another movie, with her.
LMAO. what bullshit! you are not a good person to post this kind of drivel. should be ashamed of yourself.
