In America, file a complaint to the FTC Federal Trade Commission and also report it to your State’s Consumer Affairs. You can also dispute the charges on your credit card and force a charge-back. It forces Etsy to justify the charges which gives you access to an individual higher up in the food chain to contact with whom you can directly communicate and come to a resolution like reinstate your account or they refund your money. Keep in mind that TOS are not the Ten Commandments written in stone. They can’t just point to TOS and say “Womp Womp you agreed that your $15 is non-refundable and your account looks suspicious…sorry not sorry…” That’s not okay nor legal; therefore, unenforceable.
Another gripe I have with Etsy is that it's allowing so much copyright infringement. Their first page is covered with Disney images. They must see it. Also the people selling stuff from Walmart and claiming they made it by hand changed 4x the Walmart price. They are so quick to shut some people down while letting others go for years.
The world is run by criminals unfortunately
I went to join them once
😮
No thanks I'll be poor
They cannot, legally, do anything. Only the copyright owners can.
@@SpeedbirdHeavy it's against their rules and they can and have shut down shops for it. They are just lazy about being consistent with it.
@shellym79 they can't. They shut people down for other reasons but not that. Reason being that some shops do actually have licences to sell copyright items. They explained this in a recent broadcast.
Ye I hate all the infringements on their, it's become insane!
Do not build your business on Etsy. You don't own your customer data, you cannot do email marketing, they will suspend you eventually and you will pour hundreds of hours into your shop for little to no sales. It is broken. Skip it. "If you build it they will come" does NOT work on Etsy anymore. The youtubers ignoring this all do so because they have Etsy courses and Etsy coaching programs as their main business.
Totally agree, those justifying Etsy's actions on everything are just as guilty as Etsy. 😏
Definitely
I have to agree. My current biz is on Ebay and they randomly killed it last year. I'll never use a platform again. They are useless in the long run.
My bad experience at Esty is no sales. Help, I am open to advice.
so common, then What and where to build then??
Etsy needs to face a full-blown class action suit for deceptive business practices. I'm sure there are plenty of hungry lawyers who would love to take on such a case. Just a thought, but hope it comes true.
You're wrong. It is owned by one of those mega groups. Lawyers don't sit around happy to take those on.
If there are legitimate reasons for a class action lawsuit, there are certainly lawyers willing to take it on.
I closed my Etsy store. Too much fraud on this platform!
aw sorry to hear
@shimmymorris1 Etsy's messaging is full of scammers. Messages with links with stating you owe money, shop suspended etc. You can't tell the difference between real ones and scams. Etsy dies nothing about it. I have my own website and use other platforms. So, I closed shop.
Sorry to hear you weren't selling anything lol 🤣
@@richm34 According to whom? A dumbass troller😂
@@richm34😂
I already build my shopify store and learning fb ads...im still up on etsy but i know my shop could be gone at any point so im building an actual asset
How long u been on Etsy? And are you getting sales?
nice one!!! That's the way to go
@rudenutt since about February and yes I've made about 500 in revenue...remember that's NOT profit, ads did speed up the process for sales
@shimmymorris1 yes sir!! Also learning fb ads is a good skill to learn for running them for larger companies 👍
@@itsyaboiherman oh nice one, good going 👍🏻
1) Etsy needs to turn off their AI & algorithms and spend some money on actual human staff. 2) Etsy needs to stop making their AI and/or algorithm the overriding authority that out-votes humans. 3) Etsy needs to make it absolutely crystal clear as to EXACTLY what an accountholder did to get suspended. 4) Etsy needs to get out of the clutches of the money-hungry "investors" (large, wealthy companies) who are slowly but surely squeezing it to death. #1 is extremely unlikely. #2 should be relatively easy but they have to actively decide to do it. #3 should have been done from the start and the absence of this simple bit of ethics needs to be the foundation of a very large anti-Etsy lawsuit. #4 ain't gonna happen, RIP Etsy.
Completely right, I sent Etsy to my blacklist since then. Just opened a shop, paid Etsy 15$ and 2 days later lost the money
As you said, $15 isn't that much, but multiple that by the amount of people getting suspended. Wow! They are making a lot of money, literally doing nothing.
CZcamsrs aren't talking about it as they're part of Etsy's affiliate program...
hmm interesting ! Didn't think of that
@@shimmymorris1When there was a suspected mass banning over mockups, lots of Etsy pluggers said nothing, and some even gloated that it was good news for them. Yes, I lost my shop, yes, I'm still bitter. One good egg was Starla Moore, who has recently called out Etsy for their practices.
I’m pretty sure that’s now how their affiliate platform works
No surprise. "Who are the largest shareholders of Etsy?
Largest shareholders include Vanguard Group Inc, BlackRock Inc., Capital International Investors, Goldman Sachs Group Inc, Van Eck Associates Corp, State Street Corp, MOAT - VanEck Vectors Morningstar Wide Moat ETF, Bares Capital Management, Inc., VTSMX - Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares, and ...."
Vanguard, Blackrock, absolutely stunned, not, 😒
No wonder. Those idiots along with the World Economic Forum, and liberals want to tank businesses and countries.
No surprise here. Let’s face it Etsy answers to shareholders. What is the only reason to buy stock? Profit. If the stock isn’t growing (or worse dividends quit coming) you don’t have happy shareholders. They will eventually sell and more than likely stock price and quarterly profits fall even more. I think there is too much wrong/broken/unanswered with Etsy for it not to be a toxic place to try to do business.
Yea noticed this too. Alarm bells were ringing when hearing about the dodgy suspensions. Seeing who the shareholders were is no surprise. Surely this is all done by design, but ultimately they will lose!
NOT AGAIN 😩
If none of those things work, speak to your bank about paying for a service you have not received, etsy is fraudulently taking your money by refusing to provide the service or return your money. There is a thing called a chargeback. Also consumer protection laws may provide you some protection,.
Facts! Charge backs work, Etsy will either give the money back, or ignore it and the bank will take it back for you! 😂
Started coding an Etsy competitor a week ago. If they don't want good honest business, I'll take it.
Give sellers rights to build their email/client list and reasonable fees that allow sellers with low-priced items to actually make a decent profit, and I AM THERE!
I have the same problem, after months of planning and designing, I pay the $15 to open the store, pay for Canva Pro, pay for mock ups etc, my account got suspended. I filed an appeal and got an email with the same reply of your video too. Completely banned my store and account without any reason. A lot of work, money and especially time wasted, very frustrating.
So sorry! I would suggest emailing from one the links in the description, you could still get it back
I had the same issue and called the help line in the link. It was very unhelpful. My only saving grace while he was telling me the internal review was not shareable was saying that I never received the initial suspension notice reasoning from Etsy so I could correct the issue and he said he would escalate my ticket. Good luck!
Yes, I wonder if there will be a class action suit in their future. At the very least, it's massively unethical. Starla Moore did a great video on the Etsy investor call where the CEO talks about cleaning up the platform and basically eliminating a lot of sellers who lack "the sill or the will." So she believes more suspensions are coming. Perhaps they'll eventually move to an approval process like Amazom Merch.
The CEO looked stressed imho. I felt Starla and cohost, were too easy on Etsy. She didn’t address a few issues, and glazed over others. Usually she is spot on.
I agree a class action suit may help them get their act together and stop gauging.
But you are the company you keep. Excuse the pun.
Glad they are cleaning things up though.
But manufacturers are still selling at half the price for POD. 🤦♀️ Forget about Tee’s.
Yes I saw her podcast, it was good! She could've been even more brutal though
@@Jojorocks23 I feel the same, it felt like she and her husband were taking Ety's side, I won't be surprised if she is actually involved with Etsy in some way..
Got my shop shut down straight away. Zero copyright. From the UK. One listing. All details match and are correct. Disgusting platform. Oh and appealed 3 times.
We should create new Etsy alternative
that would be cool!
@@shimmymorris1 Why don't you do that. I would sign up at Morsy
i do not understand the reserve thing with etsy. no one has ever explained to me how or why etsy feels they have a right to hold ur money
Even FB will tell you what policy you violated when they suspend you. How can you suspend, refuse explanation, then say that you can't talk about the account further? That's very suspicious.
Nah boo I got 7 perma banned fb accounts and none came with valid explanations. This week I reported a death threat on fb and they told me the person is not in the wrong, when I asked for further review the response was "oh, during covid we fired the humans who do this, AI reviewed your report and we cannot have a human check, thanks for making fb safe for us because we aren't!" Screw that place.
You are completely right. I had a jewelry shop 5 month old with ongoing orders, 5 star review, it was closed. appeal was answered with an autimatic email as the one of Karen. I have another shop 2 years old, selling tumblers, Ihave used the chat option to reach out to support, and i asked what is the deal with my closed shop, a certain MARIA answered in the chat, after contacting support my tumbler shop also was closed, now you are getting closed even for contacting support? it is really crazy, do you have a plan to get people together and petition to Etsy or a higher autority?
Soooo, here's an observation for you. To me Etsy has a couple of choices on handling new shops.
1) Let people open an account and sign up quickly. Immediately. Suspend the shop while Etsy does background checks, sets up account, etc. Annoys the crap out of shop owner and holds their $15 or £11. Restarts shop (maybe) after Etsy does its due diligence.
OR
2) Shop owner completes set up and pays the fee. Etsy then tells shop owner that it will conduct review of account and due diligence in the next 2-3 days. Etsy then messages back the shop owner with either an acceptance or denial. If it's a denail, Etsy refunds the set up fee or keeps it for processing the app (but they must disclose this if they keep it).
Well. Which method would you prefer? 🤔It's rocket science, people, rocket science.
Exactly. Other POD sites operate that way. Your new account is pending, not banned, pending.
Thank you for highlighting this, you are a star
No problem 😊
From what I understand they have started using AI to "review" accounts. This is not the only channel talking about this.
I bet that is true. FB just told me AI is reviewing all reports which is probably why it keeps saying death threats against vegans don't matter. If I was trans it would care.
Thank you for making this. I hope this video blows up because this PSA is needed.
Take it to the newspapers. They would love it.
This happened to me within hours of starting the shop. No items even offered for sale. I appealed and got the same letter saying i was suspended. I reported it to the better business and issued a charge back through my bank. Theft is theft. If you suspend someone before they start for no reason at all you are a thief.
Are you in the US? Has anyone had an Etsy acct before in your home/same wifi account?
The exact thing happened to me in March and am still appealing. Have been unemployed but got tired of it and made my own website instead in April. Thanks for raising a flag about it!
Etsy is a disgrace the same thing happened to us, paid the money and suspended straight away but they allow for tons and tons of copyright products.
I was going to create an Etsy store but after seeing your video and other videos about Etsy I have decided against it for now. It’s given me the push to set up my own store using Wordpress and Woo Commerce. I might look into an Etsy store in the future? I’m going to put all my efforts into my own web site. Thanks for a very interesting video. Best wishes, Colin.
This is the best way to go.
@@MrDoblo7 I looked at Shopify, which is good, but the cost is too much for me at the moment!
Nice one! I'd suggest shopify. i personally use that and like it the best, but use whatever works for you. Shopify should only be $1 for the first month. This is plenty of time to get set up
Thank you for this. I was thinking of opening an Etsy shop but hold on til they do fix this but not optimistic that they will or even want to fix it!
i would still open one, just be aware of what might happen. You should be able to get it back
To be fair I've scrolled you tube today and seen at least 3 videos today talking about this issue more, so I think it is starting to build some traction, I'm sure we'll get there eventually
I hope so!!
Thanks for doing this video mate, Etsy has became damn evil during the last couple years
you're welcome! tell me about it!
Same here paid the $15, had 1 listing up of a design I created of a flower, so no way it was copyright. Shop closed within 12 hours, never got an email, . I appealed and it was denied it will not allow me to appeal again. We need to call the news.
this is actually helpful!
thanks!
Great video and thanks for raising awareness. Opened my 2nd Etsy Store only to be suspended straight away after paying the £12. No email and denied appeal after a 2 minute "comprehensive" review. So I have emailed directly asking to reconsider, which I think is reasonable. If I don't get a satisfactory response then I will consider other action as money is now involved.
Another great video. I’m curious about shopify - do you share your store url?
What I do not understand is how print on demand is any kind of art? Etsy is for people who make handmade items, how is print on demand artwork or handmade?
They are asking for a class action lawsuit
100% agree!!!
Thx for the info
you're welcome!
Why does etsy ban ppl at the beginning this is absurd it feels like ur not appreciated here like wtf
ye it's so odd
It's a method that isn't new. Video games do it too when a boss is killed the first time, the players get banned until they prove they didn't cheat.
I'm unsure if suspension is legal without disclosing why?
This reminds me of Spark Paws. Don't order from them. I spent a year and a half fighting with them about my $200 order that never arrived. At one point they even told me they were not shipping a replacement because I did not make it clear I wanted the item. Paying for it wasn't a clear sign I wanted it, I guess. I finally gave up and now I just trash their business name everywhere I can, like this video. Sorry, I had to do it.
i started POD in 2010. never lost $ until i started with etsy. i have turned off all ads now. tired of losing $. cutting my losses. business must pay for itself.
Oh yes don’t forget to cancel the payments to them thereafter.
How long did it take to get your account back?
my husband opened a shop paid 15 dollars and got suspended. they should refund
It's mostly the print on demand stuff. It's not technically handmade. The AI bot is out of control, deactivates listings then the next day reinstates them. It's terrifying for a business owner to constantly be on edge.
Etsy is a total disgrace, completely ignoring the values they stood for in the beginning (honest handmade products). I'm glad I built my own shop. And I hope that buyers will see what scam it is and how hardworking creatives are being ruined by a company that prefers dropshippers and AI stealers above the honest makers. Etsy is being ruined by greed, it's all about the money, they don't care about anything else. No Etsy shop for me. Ever.
Its not only the $15. They have your identity too! They make more money from that.
I paid 15$ on may 2 and got suspended may 3rd… with no answer as to why i was suspended
That’s why I shut my store down after 15 or so sales. Their fees are ridiculous. Use it to get as much analytical data as you need and take that info to your own website. Get your SEO research and sip out
I'm thinking about starting eBay + printful. Do you recommend this?
could work. Not the most popular route. Why not Shopify?
I was suspended very quickly too - had only done the dummy listing, and not formally launched the shop. After multiple failed appeals, I took it to 3 local government regulators and then the BBB in the US. The BBB acted very very fast. Waiting to hear the outcomes. It is actually theft. Also, how can you be sure that a Shopify shop will not be suspended - I assume they have policies that might be breached, accidentally or otherwise.
It is such a blessing when Etsy simply bans some of these shops without filing suits. I wonder if all of the people running to Shopify are ready for direct lawsuits when Etsy is not blocking for them lol There are many, many people that know little about running a business online, buuuut they are experts when it comes to Etsy shutting them down "for no reason." I wish I had a dollar for every shop that I heard was shut down "for no reason." And then I wish I had another dollar for every shop that actually had a reason!! Ha
I start to distrust Etsy more and more.. now I feel awkward about starting POD...
what about blank books on Amazon that people use for journals, scrapbooks, sketchbooks and so on? What is your take on that as a business in comparison to POD?
this was a good video, it cannot be legal, but seems like no one reports on any large scale and that Etsy does not have a good customer service?
Don't let this put you off POD. I've never tried blank books so hard to comment on. I guess it could work, anything can if the effort is put in
Couple of years back, when I was considering POD, there was a lot of talk of this happening and the advice back then was contact Etsy and wait a couple of weeks. It almost seemed back then that the majority of new stores got shutdown almost immediately as there was a bug in their systems. Of course now they are charging $15 it has, as you rightly say Shimmy, legal ramifications.
totally! Seems like not much has changed with them
Heard so many negatives about Etsy, never attempted to join and never will, very unstable business imo
it can be great, it's just a shame this is happening
I said that everytime it's time to stop working on etsy, it kill business
Since when do u have to pay to set up an account? I have set up several over 11 years. Never had to pay.
Are these suspensions happening mainly to POD stores, like the example? Maybe Etsy is shifting to getting rid of POD on the platform, since it honestly goes against their handmade/custom theme.
I smell a class action lawsuit coming
how about selfy? it said that it is more cheaper than shopify and it has marketing integrations
The problem with shopify for new seller is monthly fee and how do u get ur traffic??
You won't get any traffic if you don't have a YT channel or you're paying for google ads (expensive af). Believe me!
Yes, my shop got terminated last week, I appealed and they denied, I appealed again and they sent me a message they will be getting back to me in 2 weeks. Now I understand why they are shutting down stores: they are reducing seller numbers because apparently there are more sellers than buyers lol, so they are suspending POD shops first and foremost (they call them "lazy" sellers lol). It makes perfect sense now why all these smaller POD shops are being terminated and yes, I have a feeling that etsy is in financial trouble and $15 fee was their solution for that :)
First comment !
Best pod CZcams channel 🤝🏽
aw thanks so much!
Etsy is out of control. I agree with gia. File a complaint. The way to effectively combat this is for this company to have to face legal ramifications.
for sure, i think i might
I opened up an Etsy account/shop selling Print on Demand (travel designs) in March this year. I had 6 sales the first 2 months then 2 weeks ago I got suspended. I filed an appeal and literally 2 minutes later I got an e-mail with the exakt same reply as Terry from your community...Now I don´t know what to do..
Oh I'm so sorry! I would suggest emailing from the link in the description. A lot of people have got their stores back that way
Yes I've done that but haven't heard anything yet! Thank you for the kind words and for adressing this! Your videos are always great and inspiring and one of the reasons I started with pod. All the best!
I was suspended in Nov of 2023 and Etsy has charged me a fee for having a non shop from Nov to May of this year. I’m currently setting up a Shopify shop. I’m tired of fighting with Etsy, they just don’t care. I’ve had a shop on Etsy since 2008 and watched it go from a tiny handmade biz to a large corporation. We all know corporations are in it for the money, they have shareholders to answer to. So sad!
who is the person who can help in the community?
With shopify can people down load pdf files from shopify itself
The $15 for a new Etsy shop isn't to get the shop, it's to be checked credit and identity checked, it's not a refundable fee.
Some people don't pass that check and other people might pass the check but whatever got them suspended like bad bank info etc., needs to be resolved. The $15 shouldn't be thought of as a membership fee that's refundable, it's an identity check fee.
Also, what I find a complete joke is that some sellers are selling Hollywood films on Etsy via download and some of them are still in theatres and obviously pirated because of the price!! It boggles the mind….😮
They know exactly what they're doing and they're doing it on purpose.
it's crazy
The problem is: People are still explaining this. Looking to find a workaround. Begging the company to fix this. Thats all wrong.
TY
good thing I watched this before wasting money listing....WTF even is the point of a place that charges money to post and has the power to remove the post without repaying the person.
really scummy stuff
ye honestly really shocking! just happened to me yesterday
Do we know WHY they got suspended? There are a LOT of people using copyrighted art or whatever. I was dinged a few times in quick succession, never quite figuring out what it was that caused it, but I suspect it was a Chrome extension that I had installed (ironically) to help with my Etsy shop. I haven't had any issues in a long while, and pray it stays that way.
What does a suspension message look like?
I got one right away with a QR code that I didn't believe. I just kept posting and everything looks fine. I'm assuming that I was hit with an instant scam message.
Was it an email or in your Etsy account page?
@@void________ Etsy Messages in my Etsy account literally a minute after posting my first public design. It showed a UK link toy post and had a blurb that said my account was temporarily suspended until verified and that I should follow the QR code. I ignored it and all seems fine.
What does “slacking off Etsy” mean? Being lazy?

Are you a seller on Etsy?
This is not right. Looks like ETSY is randomly suspending accounts. As for me, so far no issues except for threats from ETSY imposters. For clarity, the only legit emails are the ones that are labeled from ETSY. BTW: How the hell can anyone dislike your video? Probably the seven who disliked it are actual ETSY employees. LOL
I didn't know it cost money to be on Etsy

gracias por el vídeo, es de mucha utilidades tu información, te escribo desde España, igual me paso me suspendieron la cuenta después de pagar 13 euros y perdí el dinero. Estoy empezando en eBay.
My account got banned and reinstated 30 minutes later after I emailed. I never paid any money upfront. If your account doesn’t get reinstated you must be doing something very wrong yourself.
I had the same problem a week ago its not something isolated, and the message from etsy was exactly the same, so i gess its not a humain anymore that replies… plus the response was 5 minutes after i send my message… Wtf etsy
So i am now creating my Own store… Maybe suspending people will actualy be bad for etsy in the long term, i Hope

All the tech companies are doing this, they treat the people that make them money as disposable because there's always more people to replace them. Then add in the fact that so many people on youtube rally the idea that you can make money and run a solid business on etsy, they glamorize it and that gives etsy the fuel they need to make their sellers disposable... I bet that you have to agree to arbitration in your etsy contract which basically takes all liability away from etsy allowing them to treat it's sellers with no real respect because you cannot sue them!
I'll stick to buying. I considered it strongly until they added new protocols. After reading that letter I can see that ESTY has developed a HUGE ego.

Have you considered Shopify?
There is an American Channel similar to yours that has actually tried to contact the CEO, they have actually got his personal PA email and his personal email from somebody who works in Etsy who isn’t happy, he hasn’t replied and completely ghosted them and they know he’s open the email, or the email has been opened
oh wow! that sounds interesting! i'd love to do that
Charging $15 is is crazy. They must be greedy or losing money because the other fees are expensive. I have a shop I don't use, but it was free unless I listed or made a sale
They're doing it to try and eliminate low quality sellers like dropshippers, which are lowering the perception of the platform for buyers. The CEO said recently that there are now more sellers than buyers. They want to return the platform to its handmade origins. Personally I'm happy to pay $15 if it helps achieve that.
I don't mind the $15 so much. It's not much to start a business. It weeds out all the crap. but what's not ok is to ban people and keep their money!
