    Avengers Hulk is NOT a reboot of the character. He is played by new actor and they changed his design but in terms of story its the same Hulk. They even reference the events of The Incredible Hulk in Avengers

      I think I like Ruffalo better. I do like the actual hulk from the 'Incredible hulk' but Norton never really gave me that genius scientist feel when playing Bruce Banner and I think Norton did a great job displaying Bruce Banner as a scientist and intellect.

    This movie was spectacular. By no exaggeration, I believe this is the best Marvel studio to date. What really got me was the emotional moments and intense action. It uses just enough cgi in a way that isn't over indulgent. (cough* cough* MoS)
    A must see for avid movie goers as well as comic book fans. If Marvel continues with this level of quality they'll dominate the box office for years to come.

    I think they did a really good job making Captain America useful in The Avengers. He clearly had a role as a commander on the battlefield. Even Black Widow was being really well utilized as a sort of intelligence extractor. Only one that didn't really get a spot was Hawkeye.

The first movie really surprised me how they got me to buy into Cap even without his powers.I thought it did really well making me care about a hero I initially didn't even think about.

    The Winter Soldier felt like it was half a really good SHIELD movie and half really good Captain America movie. Early on I was thinking, "I want to see more of these SHIELD focused movies," but by the end I wanted more Captain America movies. The political thriller and espionage aspects were as good as the comic book action scenes, and featured a lot things I enjoy in both areas.
    I loved how all of the different ways Capt used his shield. Figured Falcon would be just a special effects showcase, but I ended up liking everything about the character. ScarJo's Black Widow performance convinced me that a solo film that focused heavily on espionage theme could work. Now, I'm just hoping Lucy doesn't ruin that for her. Winter Soldier's arm is going to make any metal armed enemies in the future look like lower quality ripoffs. Its design was perfect and it sounded great.
    Sidenote: I left thinking if this movie was a TV show, Winter Soldier would definitely end up with a bunch of those photo galleries on tumblr. He fits the bill perfectly.

      @superstring01 Před 10 lety +1

      Hi ***** . I totally agree. YES, clearly this is a "Cap" movie, but let's face it, in this universe you can no longer do just a "stand alone" movie. The universe is too big. There's no way to go it alone any more and I'm happy about that.
      Like you, I wanted a larger ensemble movie with more SHIELD in it. Well, we got what we were looking for and DAMN did they give me what I wanted. Beyond The Trailer

    • @DamienZshadow
      @DamienZshadow Před 10 lety

      Daniel Holliday I would have to say the opposite. The Marvel universe is getting too big but the actual planet Earth is feeling kind of small. When each of these heroes live on the same planet and have a movie that threatens the safety of the entire planet, you have to ask yourself "where was Tony Stark during this?" or "How come the Hulk didn't make an appearance here?" or "Why isn't this going to be part of Jane Foster's dialog in the next movie? Did she get to see all of this unfold too?"

    • @superstring01
      @superstring01 Před 10 lety +1

      ***** Oh. I agree. One of my three quibbles with this movie is that War Machine, Hulk and Iron Man needed to be explained away. Each could have. Easily.
      "Hulk was sent off world with Thor" -- reasonable.
      "Stark was in surgery or recovering." -- also reasonable.
      "War Machine was on a US mission securing nukes in XYZ place." -- clearly plausible. Plus, even if he found out and were in -- say -- Afghanistan, his flight suit would have only gotten him halfway home by the time the shit really hit the fan in Winter Soldier.
      These details could have been peppered in the story. But we were left to just assume. And that annoyed me.

    • @DamienZshadow
      @DamienZshadow Před 10 lety +1

      Daniel Holliday
      Agreed, it's just getting too crowded for superheroes and you would think that these Avengers would at least drop a name and say "dammit, Romanov, where's Stark?" "He's on the moon right now!" I cannot imagine they didn't at least exchange cell numbers or something.
      Who knows, I guess we'll see in the next Avengers movie how they remember to get each others' contact info this time. Did you catch the Easter Egg of the "Avengers Tower" being targeted by the Helicarrier in CA:The Winter Soldier?

    • @superstring01
      @superstring01 Před 10 lety

      ***** No. I didn't catch that. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio -- where the movie was shot -- and I was focused on finding local landmarks in the street battles, the mall scene and in a few others!
      I did catch the Steve Strange reference and thought I was super-cool, but apparently I'm not as cool as I thought since everybody else caught that!
      What is the "Avengers Tower"?

    I love that this movie appears to be a political thriller, instead of just another smash'em up superhero. I think one of the problems with some of these movies is that there is no earthly villain capable of harming some of these heroes, so movies had to turn to ETs. I think this is why Batman does so well; he's not fighting aliens to save the world, just local thugs to save his city. This Captain appears to have this same idea and I applaud it, and will go see it!

Problem with Marvel movies today I think is that they are all great movies so you are getting used to the quality of them all and so is your expectation always thinking that the next one has to outdo the previous one! Great review, it ticked so many boxes as far as questions about whether this film is worth the time, because I was going to see this one way or the other but it's nice to know I'll enjoy myself.
    I think Grace is right about Thor, it's the only one of these "phase 2" movies I didn't go or really care if I saw, because I just wasn't impressed with the storytelling of the first movie. I couldn't care less about Thor and Jane's relationship. These Asgardian realms offer adventures similar to Lord of Rings, but instead we get stories with horrible plot holes, unnecessary romantic entanglements, and villains that never quite measure up to Thor.
    I will say that while I've enjoyed the Iron Man movies none of the sequels were as good as the first, largely because the villains weren't as impressive as the hero. Also, the facts of Mandarin were a MAJOR let down and that as Grace says the absence of the other Avengers or SHIELD doesn't really make much sense given the nature and scale of both conflicts.

So many young people complain today about how they wish they lived in a simpler time and here you have a character that comes from that time and can hold that dialogue about what the world has become, are we better off, etc... not to mention, he's a War hero and not just any war, World War 2, he's a living legend and i'm glad the movie acknowledges what he means to the American public with the museum exhibit, boring... far from it

    Tremendous film. And I disagree with the reviewer about the Captain America character. In a world of anti-heroes, gray shades and brooding nihilists, Steve Rogers is steadfast, pure and noble. There's not a question where he stands, or what he stands for. He ALWAYS does the right thing, and that's the canvas he's painted on. That he is NOT "superhuman" is what makes him, IMHO the greatest superhero. This movie underscores this perfectly, as Rogers, the one principled man out of time, beyond corruption, beyond reproach, saves the modern world from itself.

    This movie really makes me want to pick up the new Winter Soldier limited series when it comes out in trade alongside the new Black Widow series, both of which are strongly spy-political thriller series with Winter Soldier having incredibly striking visuals reminiscent of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law or Austin Powers and the 60's style spy comics novels that inspired the pulp intrigue trend of the era. Definitely worth checking out if folks are looking for something different to add to their pull lists.

    I was lucky enough to watch Captain America a week early (and 2 weeks early in comparison to America), and was extraordinarily good. The 3D wasn't exactly great, but it had some superb performances, brilliant visuals and direction which is excellent for a duo who have only really worked in comedy films.

    Grace, I feel that you don't need to see The Winter Soldier in 3D as it doesn't really add or detract from the film. I hardly noticed the 3D when I saw it. But it is an amazing movie and lived up to all my expectations.

    I loved Thor 2 (Dark World) i liked it more than any other Marvel movie other than Avengers and *maybe* Iron Man 1. (And Blade of course). I understand that you didnt like it Grace, but could you please stop dropping the elbow on Thor 2 please? I thought it was a great film. I loved every minute of it. I respect a firm review thats from the heart, but ongoing promotion of Thor 2 as a massive mis-step just doesnt match up with the actual success of the film. Nonetheless, cheers! Great review as always, and I look forward to your spoiler review! :)

    I saw this in 3D only because I'd just missed the 2D showing and I agree: it definitely doesn't need to be seen in 3D at all. I don't regret paying the extra money, though, because I still really enjoyed this film. It was amazing. I knew it was going to be awesome and still it exceeded my expectations. I cannot wait for "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Captain America 3" I really wanna see what they do with that aspect in the very last end credit scene (keeping this spoiler-free)

    I saw it in IMAX on friday and LOVED it! Then I went and saw it on Saturday in not-IMAX 3D with my sister and thought it was a waste of money. I was a HUGE proponent of 3D, but that format made the action scenes muddled and confusing. 3D really didnt add anything to the film, and I should have just seen it in 2D and saved my money, or seen it in IMAX again.

    IMAX REVIEW: I agree that it wasn't much of a difference in 3D, however I have found that the sound systems in IMAX are much better than other theatres, so ironically it was the sound of the IMAX that gives it the edge. When Cap is hitting people with his shield it's just like BAM and it shakes the theater

  • @RainMan14561
    @RainMan14561 Před 10 lety

    I say that The Incredible Hulk was cannon and at the same time it isn't. In Avengers Bruce was in control of the hulk before Loki used the scepter with one of the Infinity gems to control him. That only makes sense because of the ending in Incredible Hulk Bruce was in control and the pre credit scene justifies it. The only real difference is the change of the actor which is the case in every incarnation of the Hulk oddly.

    • @Citrakite
      @Citrakite Před 10 lety

      Remember that Bruce spent most of the movie saying he didn't want to control him he wanted him gone. At the end he seemed to reversed that. I think he failed trying to control him as well so he isolated himself until he learned he can't ignore it, kill it, cure it, or control it. He has to accept and work with it and make it part of him rather then treat it like it's something else. He is the Hulk for better or worse and more he fights that the more Hulk fights back. Loki also didn't control him. He just had to know when to push him along.

    I really don't see this "good-for-TV-only" quality that Grace sees in Sebastian Stan. I didn't see any difference between him and the other actors - he did his job well and he sold the Winter Soldier just fine. If I had to complain about an actor, I'd complain about Redford - he was on the bland side, I dare say.

    Grace, I have to wait until Sunday to see Cap, so I'll wait to watch the spoiler-review then. Been a long time fan hailing from frigid Minnesota, and love your show for your specific attention to the super-hero genre of films. Now, to a question: When, or if, do you think Marvel films will start to talk or reference their Netflix properties, like Daredevil and Luke Cage, within the films? I have to say, I'm more excited for those properties than the films given their ability to tell richer stories with more time to tell them, despite the large scale story-telling with big budgets. Have they confirmed their connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Thanks Grace and keep up the great work. [emoticon smiley face]

    I love that so many characters got to shine even though it's Captain America's film. I hate or at least get bored a lot of the time with "star Vehicles." I love Brad Pitt, but World War Z had little to do with the book (which dealt with a lot of individuals and their struggle) and it felt like characters that were not played by Brad Pitt were not allowed to be interesting or have compelling stories beyond a token mention of a dead loved one. The Mission Impossible films would be way better if they just killed off Ethan Hunt (along with his self indulgent crap) and allowed the characters from the last two films to do missions as a team rather than being props for Tom Cruise. I love Falcon and Black Widow in this film. Maria Hill with her smaller screen time than what she had in the Avengers was much more interesting (though it felt like Maria Hill did what Agent 13 would Normally do, I wanted more Agent 13, though I guess Steve Rogers didn't find out her last name for a while in the comic books). And Nick Fury was the most awesome he's been in any film, and he set the bar pretty high with his first appearance in Iron Man. I also loved the fact that while Steve Rogers is dealing with being a man out of his time, he's not just moping around. He appreciates the fact that he's having a second chance at life and he's living it, and sometimes actually enjoying himself.

    Good point about Iron Man being the technical marvel, and Captain America being the political thriller. If Thor 3 can perfect the fantasy epic aspect then it will be on par with the rest as well. Great point Grace! I couldn't quite put my finger on it until you made that point, but brilliant woman! Brilliant!
