- In Memory of Captain Sir Thomas Moore (1920 - 2021).
St Mary's Church in Broadwater, a district of Worthing, holds a chime of 8 bells. In 1936, there were 6 bells which were hung on a wooden frame of Z and V trusses with a well hole in the centre. In 1936, as part of Worthing's memorial to George V, the 6 bells were recast and augmented by Gillett & Johnston of Croydon and rehung in a new, steel frame, in the same location as the old. The bells are rarely rung, but when they are the locals do enjoy it.
The clock is made up of three trains: Going, Striking and Chiming. It is now electronically wound and the striking (Westminster (Cambridge) quarters have been 'turned-off'.

Excellent G&J chiming 8. 15.0.26 in F#. Formerly a ring of 6. I'm from Worthing. Watched them being chimed once and had a clamber around the bell chamber
I'm glad you enjoyed it Graham! They are great fun to ring and I do live visiting chimes like these. Are there any near you?
A lovely 1930's G&J chime. The baton clavier looks rather fun, I believe it was originally built for 8 bells in diatonic scale and one semitone if I'm not wrong. A nice little documentation of this rather fine chime!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I like to make these videos as future reference for people to look back on to see what was there in the past. You are quite correct, the clavier is designed to hold a 2 sharp but it has never been hung and personally I don't think that will change any time soon. The bells are very rarely rung which is a great shame as they are a very nice chime of bells indeed!
@@tittums nice chime
Beautiful bells Ollie. It's a shame they're not rung frequently. Maybe this video might create more interest.
That amazing bellring very good
Horrendous modern sounds of traffic, alarms, squealing brakes and chainsaws and then blessed silence and a lovely memorial to Captain Tom ........ and seagulls. Thank You
The noises of modern day life. Rushed and rarely given any time to stop and appreciate what one has. I am glad you liked the video Linda. Thank you for watching! :)
Why don’t they ring anymore 7:42
why isn't the clock chiming the quarters ?
They have been turned off. Been off for about 10 years now I believe.
