I didn't get the hype around BMP's until I started building pedals about 12 years ago and built myself one. Now it is by far my favorite distortion on bass.

I love the hell outta my Red Muck, so damn good! The EHX Deluxe Bass "Pi" model is no joke either. The crossover feature can be a life saver in live settings.

You've got to try the wren and cuff pickle pie b, if you haven't yet. I love it. It replaced my ehx deluxe bass big muff.
You would love the source audio distortion peddle. You can change the waves and have 4 different programs plus works with hothand so its can be very crazy.

I gotta say, my favourite Big Muff for Bass is the one I built myself from a DIY Kit. ^^ I think I wired some part wrong, so now it distorts really funky :P
When buying a big muff, or any fuzz as a bass player, make sure they have as many tweakable controls as possible. Especially if they let you control the mids. My personal recommendations: way huge swollen pickle and EQD Hoof

How about the nobels odr-1? I have built my own version from Aion fx. There is no loss of low end from this pedal and is very versatile and organic. It won’t make your bass sound like something it is not. Just my 2€

Choose either an overdrive(retains more attack, often brighter and more agressive) or a fuzz pedal(very fat and hairy, like in this video). Don't bother with actual distortion pedals unless you have a very specific intention.

I get the Jam Pedals Red Mark. Never cared for Big Muff pedals on bass. Darkglass B7K, baby! Yeah!
Get a Boss LS-2 line selector, and put an EHX Knockout in other loop (dry off, treble off, bass to taste). You're welcome.
Trust me. This "clean blend" is lame. You only want to blend in the low end. EHX Knockout. Try it.
There is a Damnation Audio Looper pedal that is like an LS-2 that only blends the low end if you are interested in checking that out. Same thing, just one less pedal :]
@@weanimated Cool tip! Although the Knockout has the LPF at 85Hz whereas that pedal is 1kHz, plus since the LS-2 has two loops, you can run an octave in the LPF loop and have a real blast!
I do this, but replaced my knockout with a Microtubes X, and now a Brimstone Audio Crossover Distortion. Just turn off the dirty when you want that LPF. Too bad the crossovers suck badly on the EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff, because that would work too.
