Got to the end step of this video, and also thought I would have to remove the Alt, and other housings. But the trick is to rotate the entire housing about 180 degrees and pull upwards. If you do anything other than that, it will just NOT come out and will otherwise drive you nuts !
Have done this job a few times.Letting the alternator swing back out of the way gives you more room to work with for turning housing and scraping.Remove top alt bolt and loosen bottom one..
Robert huerta ...universal technical institute student....Don't forget to bleed the cooling system all that air can still be trapped in the system wich can cause overheating and many other issues same for all vehicles
Thanks man I've been suspecting it my radiator popped the other day and I found my fan clutch was bad so I'm just replacing all 3 but this is a big help
When I drain radiators I slip on a section of rubber or clear tubing to get fluid in pan , and makes ground pet /kid safe.. other thing I do is use old rubber bathmatts on places to keep from busting knuckles.
There's a few ways you can check to see if you got blown head gasket if you don't have coolant in your oil you can have somebody put rag or whatever in your tailpipe if your exhaust is nice and sealed to see if it blows bubbles back through your radiator with the cap off.
I ve got a 99 Ram 5.2L V8 that just started heating up after 15 min. Pulled into work and the gauge climbed close to Red. i shut it down and rolled to park the truck. All fluid levels are good. oil looks clean, no funny smell. Coolant however has the rusty look to it. Hoping its just the thermostat but I'm going to swap out the fuel pump while I'm at it. Crossing my fingers.
I have a 99 2500 that I have issues with Trans temp light and o/d lights come on and o/d acts up. But the weird thing is only does it when it's hot outside otherwise when it's warm or cold out it doesn't do it. Trans don't seem like it's overheating. My heat works with no issues.
I’m doing mine right now I didn’t remove anything just used two 3/8 extensions with a swivel and my socket and got them both out btw dose yours use a gasket cause mine dose apparently first truck I’ve heard that use one
Hey! I appreciate the video! Quick question, is draining all the coolant %100 necessary? I literally just dropped $30 in new coolant because the heat ran the system bone dry, and I don't want to pay for more :(
Did you ever change the timing chains the 2 inside the motor...? If you want a new truck you should...and the water pump...you.ll also save some gas..pays for it self in the long...
Jesus, that crud in the tstat housing. You can bet that system needs a full flush. And advise never using Dex-cool (orange) in these vehicles. Use the regular coolant (green).
i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9L and had just put a new radiator in and ran fine. but after a while my engine starts to sputter and the battery gauge drops all the way down to no charge but all the lights and stuff remain to stay on and after a minute of sputtering like its not getting gas then it will just completely shut off on me and after 20 minutes I can start it and drive it and it will do the same thing, also it is throwing antifreeze all over the engine bay cant find a leak or whole.
My man, clear, concise, and I'd already be using this ratchet I tried holding in my mouth to make this comment sound cooler, not a single second of mE, Me, ME word vomit! ReSpEcT!
I have a 98 that runs cold. It takes forever to warm up and get to operating temp. Mine doesn't overheat or anything and the weird thing is it has slight heat (my high fan speed only works) if I have it on the lower fan speed then it blows alittle and it has little heat but if you actually turn it on the heat goes cold.
@Luka Ilic funny thing is there was holes in my radiator and it was leaking out coolant. Put a new radiator in it years ago and I think it fixed that issue.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt 5.9 I recently changed the water pump, the fan and the thermostat .then my check engine light came on and the code said that the engine was staying cold for to long the code was P1281
It could be a bad thermostat, low coolant level, or bad ECT sensor or wiring..but since it was ok before you changed the tstat and water pump I would say the thermostat might be bad or the wrong kind, searching online seems like the stock thermostat for these is 195-degrees so make sure you got the same thing in there. GL
Glad I could help you out, thanks for watching.
Would have been cool if you would have put a link for part 2 in the video description. Thanks!

Dude this described my issue to "letter!" Thanks for tell us the symptoms on this video!
Just wanted to say I really appreciated your videos...had the exact same problem in my '96 1500 5.2L. Used your videos to fix...working great.

I did everything you did except take the hose off the thermostat housing. I found it to be easier to leave it on.

Thanks Man, It was a Real Help. I look forward to see other Videos that you produce.

wait til it cools down before getting anywhere near coolant (draining, opening radiator cap..etc).

I have a Dodge Ram 8 cil with same heating problems............ thanks for posting this video ....... muchas gracias.

Guess I have to be thankful. The original owner didn't opt for AC.
Thanks bro I really appreciate it I will update you on how it goes on sat
Sorry I havent worked on those engines, but generally speaking the procedure should be similar.

drain 1/2
This was very helpful, thank you

Thats not orange coolant, its rust

Could this work on a 1989? Asking for a friend
Good job!!! Thanks for sharing!

How many miles were on the truck at this point?

I have the same problem I'm try this it might work or be heater coal
@@lukailic6987 my guess would be thermostat?

BLAGHCK !!! Look at all that sludge! No wonder it was overheating.
anywhere. would you happen to know what could be wrong with it?
How do I get to part 2?
Awfully brown antifreeze??? Mine is green.
mine was low coolant possible leak just keeping coolant levels
i have 1999 dodge 1500 same problem as yours,um do i have to wait until the car engine cool down first or it don't have to?
will this work for a V6 01
thanks for the video five stars!!!!!!!
Should cover the Throttle Body and make sure you don't drop any fasteners or bolts into the Water Pump. Pain to get them back if you do.
You got the culprit yeah :)
can a thermostat leak coolant out???
someone please help
if you still have coolant for over 2 years, it'll turn into a rust color, it'll corrode away the gasket seal for the thermostat
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt 5.9 I recently changed the water pump, the fan and the thermostat .then my check engine light came on and the code said that the engine was staying cold for to long the code was P1281

Any suggestions or help

It's a truck, not a car.
100% sure it is a Truck and not a car.
