The original plan for Live Aid was for Mick and David to perform this song live from the two Live Aid locations; Mick at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and David at Wembley Stadium in London. Unfortunately technology of the day made that impossible; there was too much of a delay. They couldn't sync up. So that's why they had to pre-record the video ahead of time

The reason they vibe together so well is by this time they'd been friends for decades. Not just friends, either; they've both confirmed they were one of each other's conquests back in the anything-goes days of the 70's. So they have an extremely comfortable and meshed vibe in this video. They probably didn't even rehearse.

"Jagger also revealed what he thought of the “Dancing in the Street” video. “My favorite memory was the time we did ‘Dancing in the Street’ together,” he said. “We had to record the song and film the video all in one day. We walked straight from the studio onto the set of the video. At the end of the day, we were saying, ‘See, it can be done! Why are [we] spending years in the studio?'”
While Jagger enjoys the video, he has some regrets about his professional relationship with Bowie. “We enjoyed camping it up,” he recalled. “The video is hilarious to watch. It was the only time we really collaborated on anything, which is really stupid when you think about it.” Jagger wasn’t the only one who enjoyed “Dancing in the Street.” Listeners seemed to enjoy it as well. The duet reached No. 7 on Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 14 weeks. It’s Jagger’s only top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist.
The Official Charts Company reports “Dancing in the Street” was a success in the United Kingdom as well. The song reached No. 1 in the U.K., staying on the chart for 15 weeks. It remains Jagger’s only No. 1 hit in his native U.K. without The Rolling Stones.

This is a cover written by Marvin Gaye, William "Mickey" Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter. It hit the charts in 1964 with Martha Reeves & The Vandellas recording it. It reached number 2 in the USA and number 4 in the UK. They are doing with the energy Martha Reeves & The Vandellas did it.

This is a cover from the early 60s Motown hit song from "Martha and The Vandellas." It was a great song. Mick Jagger and David Bowie are (were) tight friends (Both are British) and worked on one another's songs, and albums over almost 50 years, until David's recent death a few years ago. I'll never forget the interview I heard with Mick Jagger talking about the time David Bowies' wife came home unexpectedly, only to find Mick and David in bed together. That isn't my cup of tea...but I like their music.

don't think i've watched that since the time period when it was new. I watched the live aid broadcast on tv with my mom. They played that video alot in between stage acts. It was my introduction to a lot of bands at the time. I was thrilled with Jagger, he also did a stage performance with Tina Turner, in which he was similarly animated. My mother was most impressed by "that guy with the mustache.... he could really sing!" i was 9 at the time.

Jagger & Bowie had been friends for quite some time when they did this video, and I think that friendship is what drove the free and fun vibe of the video. You should react to Little T & A by the Stones sometime. Mick DOESN'T sing on it, it's got Keith Richards on vocals.

I can't hear this song without thinking of the Family Guy episode when they showed this music video and Peter said, "1985 brought us the gayest music video of all time". Then after the video he said, "That happened, and we all let it happen". LMAO! Still, it's 37 years later and Dancing in the Street is still one of the silliest and most fun music videos to watch. Thanks RSR!
