Halloween 5 is hilarious. The scene with Loomis and Deputy Charlie is absolute comedy gold. The cop being killed over the radio, Loomis popping that gun right in Charlie’s face, etc. Amazing.
Othenin-Girard was intelligent enough to center his film around beautifully executed stalking sequences....intense pursuit scenes, like the laundry chute and the chase into the forest...and to set it all against a vivid Harvest Season backdrop...So far, he has been the ONLY director in the series to do so to this degree, and this effectively...although the people who made 2 and 4 did quite well, too...
The Man in Black could of been Tommy Doyle as he was obsessed with Michael after Halloween (1978) it could of made sense as he had loads of research on him all over his bedroom wall. Maybe he turned after his encounter with Michael and went into the thorn cult to protect Michael. Just an idea, thoughts??

Another excellent video guys. My thinking is Halloween seemed to loose its way right after 4. Even 4 had some iffy stuff in it. Mostly the look of Michael. I think the problem had to do with the gore factor. The original played out as a more suspense horror movie and because of the trend they were forced to up the gore factor in latter entries to compete with other horror movies.
Terrific episode. I didn't realize how much that I didn't know about my favorite horror franchise and 1of my all-time favorite movie franchises! An actor from Titanic 1997, Lewis Abernathy who played Lewis Bodine, he played the main researcher on the treasure ship. Lewis Abernathy wrote and gave his finished script for H5 to Akkad and the director.
Personally, I would have wrote H6 to reveal the MIB as warlock within the Silver Shamrock Coven to retrieve Michael to harness his occult nature for their purposes and rituals. I’d have revealed they believed him to be the physical manifestation of the spirit of Samhain.
I think you guys would make an amazing panel at a horror convention event....especially For the love of horror in October this year........would be amazing, considering all the Halloween alums that will also be there

My theory is that the Man in Black is another boogeyman from some other American town. The country is full of boogeymen, and now they're getting organized! There's your sequel!

If we're tying this Thorn business into it, and H6 refers to the constellations, why not? Cochran refers to the planets in his epic speech. Perhaps, he needs Michael to carry out the plans that Atkins foiled. Tie this movie to H3.

To answer Frank’s question, I would’ve had the Man in Black turn out to be the mechanic Phelps from the original Halloween. He survived his encounter with Michael and is trying to abduct him to get revenge. JK 😜 But seriously, if it was up to me, I wouldn’t have any kind of supernatural explanation for Michael’s evil and I wouldn’t have the Man in Black be a character we were already familiar with. Since both Michael and the Man in Black have the Thorn tattoo on their wrist, I’d reveal that the Man in Black is just some crazy guy obsessed with Myers and he put the tattoo on Michael’s wrist when Michael was in a coma before H4. Either that or the hermit put the tattoo on per the Man in Black’s request. And I’d just have the Man in Black be crazy and think he’s doing the bidding of some evil god or demon, but his beliefs are complete nonsense. There’d be no confirmation that Myers actually has some kind of curse. He’s still the boogeyman. The Man in Black would sort of be like Sartain I guess. It’s hard to create an explanation for him that isn’t ridiculous, but as long as Myers is still kept ambiguous I think it’s good enough.

In part 6, he has a hold of Michael being his Dad but then have Michael kill him thus breaking that hold and even a killing spree on the cult therefore Michael is fullu unhinged. The time differences can make this plausible
While H5 isn't my most hated film in this franchise, 100% the most disappointing and frustrating. Similar to me like the last jedi is for star wars. Maybe the reason Michael was wandering around without a clue is because he was looking for that damn bus to get out of this movie!
Has anyone ever asked themselves why there are so many "Man In Black" type figures with a trench coat and top hat? You have movies like The Shadow and Darkman; the wrestler The Undertaker; the symbol for the neighborhood watch; and then of course The Hatman seen in sleep paralysis... There's something ethereal, a hidden meaning to that dark figure we're seeing everywhere. There's definitely a deeper meaning and symbolism to HALLOWEEN 5 that the Director (I'm not even trying to spell his name) isn't letting on.
I heard originally the idea came from a bizarre looking man dressed up like that who kept showing up behind the scenes. But nobody knew he was nor did everyone see him at the same time.

It's not a bad Halloween movie. I prefer it over H20 and Resurrection. Take away the clown cops and it improves 20% lol. As a 9 year old kid when it came out, I remember being excited as a kid to see him unmasked, which the VHS case made a big point to mention and I begged my dad to rent it for me. Don Shanks was a good Myers, and it had Loomis and Meeker. All in all, not a terrible movie. If not Wynn as the man in black, the head doctor at Ridgemont Sanitarium would have been an interesting man in black. The way he looked in at Michael's body as he's loaded into the ambulance in 4 always struck me as creepy. It could have been written in that he planned Michael's escape via the ambulance crash, knowing Michael was awake and capable of attacking.
How about the idea of making Dr. Hoffman from part 4 as the Man in Black? This way it seems you could still have that doctor aspect like Dr. Wynn, but you can also use Dr. Hoffman as the Man in Black to explain WHY Hoffman let Myers go on Halloween Eve in 88', to say he has hopes for the events of part 4 to happen in the first place. Just an idea. 💡 Anyway, thank you all for what you do for this franchise, as well as with the genre itself. You both are appreciated. I would have had the man in Black be Bracket looking for revenge His attack on police station was him trying to get Michael to kill him but because he was so obsessed he messed up and it led to Michael getting away. We can find out the reveal in 6 but I also wouldn’t have had the Thorn cult and tattoo crap
If I had to, I’d pick brackett. He’s went on to Florida and between Annie being dead and haddonfield thinking he’s a joke who let his town down, he came back to try and take down Michael. The slash/guns and roses 😒 outfit would hide his body shape. Now the cult stuff I’d have no idea how to do all that because I never had an interest in that part of the timeline.
Fantastic episode guys Halloween 5 they just rushed it should have been 2 gap after part 4 but they got greedy and the end result was bad it was all setup and they didn't know where to go with it Danielle Harris was the best thing in the movie
Even though both 5 and 6 are bad and I don't like the answer, Farrands did a good job connecting the Man in Black with the series. I'm not a fan, but he at least made something out of that.

This movie was a mess. The behind scenes rumors of what the cast was doing are ridiculous. I saw a video where the one mentions them having crazy parties and Danielle Harris being there and having to get her out when the party 🎉🎉 really got good.
Hopefully the remaining cut footage for Halloween 5 surfaces eventually! With a rewrite this story could have worked, have Michael knock Rachel out and take her to an abandoned house and tie her up and than have Michael go trick or treating and killing Tina and her friends to mess with Jamie and have Jamie try and guide the police to where Michael is and have Michael mess with Rachel abet to try and get Jamie to come to him and when she can't escape the clinic have Michael attack the clinic and have Jamie escape in the chaos and head to the abandon house and find Rachel and have a similar 3rd act of a cat and mouse chase where Michael is trying to find Jamie and Rachel and maybe have Dr. Loomis and Sheriff Meeker save the day and maybe burn the house down with Michael inside and the next day they discover his body is gone!

see I prefer Resurrection over H5. I always saw Resurrection as "so bad it's good", it's script actually was well thought up and ruined by producers, and it's very relevant in today world with live streams.
This movie is terrible. I always referred to the director as Dominique Othenin Jerkoff. I understand and appreciate wanting to put your own style within the film but there are things set in stone for the franchise that you can't change, if you do you just shit all over the writers who set those rules as well as the fans who understand and love those set in stone elements of the franchise. Sorry but Dominique seems like a douche. Making Michael cry is a crime I'll never forgive lol. He's the boogeyman, he doesn't cry. Since both Michael and the Man in Black have the Thorn tattoo on their wrist, I’d reveal that the Man in Black is just some crazy guy obsessed with Myers and he put the tattoo on Michael’s wrist when Michael was in a coma before H4. Either that or the hermit put the tattoo on per the Man in Black’s request. And I’d just have the Man in Black be crazy and think he’s doing the bidding of some evil god or demon, but his beliefs are complete nonsense. There’d be no confirmation that Myers actually has some kind of curse. He’s still the boogeyman. The Man in Black would sort of be like Sartain I guess. It’s hard to create an explanation for him that isn’t ridiculous, but as long as Myers is still kept ambiguous I think it’s good enough.

The thorn cult got him, converted him and sent him to bring Michael. In part 6, he has a hold of Michael being his Dad but then have Michael kill him thus breaking that hold and even a killing spree on the cult therefore Michael is fullu unhinged.
The time differences can make this plausible
While H5 isn't my most hated film in this franchise, 100% the most disappointing and frustrating. Similar to me like the last jedi is for star wars. Maybe the reason Michael was wandering around without a clue is because he was looking for that damn bus to get out of this movie!
Has anyone ever asked themselves why there are so many "Man In Black" type figures with a trench coat and top hat? You have movies like The Shadow and Darkman; the wrestler The Undertaker; the symbol for the neighborhood watch; and then of course The Hatman seen in sleep paralysis...
There's something ethereal, a hidden meaning to that dark figure we're seeing everywhere. There's definitely a deeper meaning and symbolism to HALLOWEEN 5 that the Director (I'm not even trying to spell his name) isn't letting on.
I heard originally the idea came from a bizarre looking man dressed up like that who kept showing up behind the scenes. But nobody knew he was nor did everyone see him at the same time.

I know they get some of the info from Taking Shape.. there's a Taking Shape part 2 out now also... I wonder what other bizarre stories are from part 5 alone. I saw a making of part 5 from anchor bay. I'm shocked they made it... It looked like a Frat Party making a fan film.

It's not a bad Halloween movie. I prefer it over H20 and Resurrection. Take away the clown cops and it improves 20% lol. As a 9 year old kid when it came out, I remember being excited as a kid to see him unmasked, which the VHS case made a big point to mention and I begged my dad to rent it for me. Don Shanks was a good Myers, and it had Loomis and Meeker. All in all, not a terrible movie. If not Wynn as the man in black, the head doctor at Ridgemont Sanitarium would have been an interesting man in black. The way he looked in at Michael's body as he's loaded into the ambulance in 4 always struck me as creepy. It could have been written in that he planned Michael's escape via the ambulance crash, knowing Michael was awake and capable of attacking.
How about the idea of making Dr. Hoffman from part 4 as the Man in Black? This way it seems you could still have that doctor aspect like Dr. Wynn, but you can also use Dr. Hoffman as the Man in Black to explain WHY Hoffman let Myers go on Halloween Eve in 88', to say he has hopes for the events of part 4 to happen in the first place.

I would have had the man in Black be Bracket looking for revenge
His attack on police station was him trying to get Michael to kill him but because he was so obsessed he messed up and it led to Michael getting away. We can find out the reveal in 6 but I also wouldn’t have had the Thorn cult and tattoo crap
I would've made the Man in Black either Tommy Doyle, Reverend Sayer from 4, or Laurie Strode or someone connected to Laurie Strode.
If I had to, I’d pick brackett. He’s went on to Florida and between Annie being dead and haddonfield thinking he’s a joke who let his town down, he came back to try and take down Michael. The slash/guns and roses 😒 outfit would hide his body shape. Now the cult stuff I’d have no idea how to do all that because I never had an interest in that part of the timeline.
Fantastic episode guys Halloween 5 they just rushed it should have been 2 gap after part 4 but they got greedy and the end result was bad it was all setup and they didn't know where to go with it Danielle Harris was the best thing in the movie
Even though both 5 and 6 are bad and I don't like the answer, Farrands did a good job connecting the Man in Black with the series. I'm not a fan, but he at least made something out of that.

Careful what you wish for
This movie was a mess. The behind scenes rumors of what the cast was doing are ridiculous. I saw a video where the one mentions them having crazy parties and Danielle Harris being there and having to get her out when the party 🎉🎉 really got good.
Hopefully the remaining cut footage for Halloween 5 surfaces eventually! With a rewrite this story could have worked, have Michael knock Rachel out and take her to an abandoned house and tie her up and than have Michael go trick or treating and killing Tina and her friends to mess with Jamie and have Jamie try and guide the police to where Michael is and have Michael mess with Rachel abet to try and get Jamie to come to him and when she can't escape the clinic have Michael attack the clinic and have Jamie escape in the chaos and head to the abandon house and find Rachel and have a similar 3rd act of a cat and mouse chase where Michael is trying to find Jamie and Rachel and maybe have Dr. Loomis and Sheriff Meeker save the day and maybe burn the house down with Michael inside and the next day they discover his body is gone!

see I prefer Resurrection over H5. I always saw Resurrection as "so bad it's good", it's script actually was well thought up and ruined by producers, and it's very relevant in today world with live streams.

This movie is terrible. I always referred to the director as Dominique Othenin Jerkoff. I understand and appreciate wanting to put your own style within the film but there are things set in stone for the franchise that you can't change, if you do you just shit all over the writers who set those rules as well as the fans who understand and love those set in stone elements of the franchise. Sorry but Dominique seems like a douche. Making Michael cry is a crime I'll never forgive lol. He's the boogeyman, he doesn't cry. The whole man in black thing added by him was so irresponsible on Dominique's part. Love your podcast guys.

I have an honest question. Was DP a true alcoholic, meaning he drank consistently on a day to day basis, or was he just drinking on set because it was such a shit show and he was unhappy?
I think he was partial to the odd tipple. Daniele Lloyd has said on a few occasions that DP would often smell of booze.
