  • Moving On (2000) - It was a pointless war, everyone agrees. And now, 25 years after the fall of Saigon, we see the effects of the war on this Communist country and its relationship to the rest of the world.

Foreign investors are reluctant to put funds towards developing in Vietnam. "There's no easy money there," one explains. Journalists must be accompanied by a "guide", who is responsible for promoting the party line and telling us what we can and cannot film. Yet with all this control the Communist party has difficulty garnering the support of the youth, who freely express disillusionment at politics.

Whatever man. They fought three armies and won all. They kicked the US hard in their balls, and showed them the way out. They did the same with Japan, and China. And then they freed themselves from French colonial rule. What else do you expect? Four battles destroyed their agricultural lands.

Although at times the Vietnamese kicked out the Chinese at other times they were colonized for thousands of years. Vietnam did resist Japan but did not have much success until Japan fell to the allies. They did however beat the French outright. There resistance to colonization can't be question but their success rate is not 100% as you seem to imply.

Economic prosperity means an educated, wealthy middle class. An educated wealthy middle class means a desire for greater autonomy. This is something a totalitarian Marxist state cannot tolerate. Eventually, as the people rise, the Party will have to put the brakes on economic development and clamp down on freedom of thought and expression, just like Xi did in China.

Vietnamese forces overthrew the mass murderer Pol Pot who provoked them by cross-border raids. The occupation of Cambodia was less of a burden than the US embargo on Vietnam that lasted 19 years, after the country had been devastated by US bombings for almost a decade. The war with China lasted only a month.

you should correct 25 years after "American war" (commonly known as Vietnam war, but I prefer calling it American war based on Vietnamese perspective). But after American war, Vietnamese keep undergoing another war _ Indochina war, and struggle with trade embargo from US. Until 1994, President Clinton lifted the embargo, and this help pave the way for economic development in Vietnam. I hope that there is one clip about Vietnam now instead of Vietnam 25 years ago. Vietnam changes a lot now.

Vietnam won the war against French with the great help from Soviet and China. During the war against Japanese, United States helped Vietnam and Japanese withdraw after 2 atomic bombs dropped on Japan. Vietnam did not fight any big battle with the Japanese.
With the great support from Soviet and China, Vietnam defeated French in 1954. After this victory, Ho Chi Minh wanted to build a communist country like what Stalin and Maos doing in Soviet and China. He wanted to have only 1 party and hold all the power just like his mentor Stalin and Maos. He killed so many wealthy land owners in the North. Luckily, by the time communist Vietnam took the South in 1975, Ho Chi Minh already died, so wealthy people in the South were not tortured and killed like what happened in North Vietnam.

What the actual hell are you talking about lol? Do you know what you are talking about? What you said about Ho Chi Minh was utterly the complete opposite, his goal was to not make Vietnam communist, but to give independence to Vietnam from the French colonial rule that was oppressing the Vietnamese people back then, communism was only a tool he had to use in order to achieve that goal, in his mind, independence and freedom to the Vietnamese people was first and foremost, and ill like to see you try finding any major deaths in the land reforms of north vietnam, it was not like the other communist land reforms that you know of, if you actually talked to the people who experienced it at the time, you'd know that it wasn't that bad compared to the other land reforms happening at the time, there were mostly fair negotiations made to land lords and the peasants with minimal resistance. Ho Chi Minh was a nationalist and dedicated his life to the independence of vietnam, it was only after he died that everything went down, his officers took over and started torturing the southern public, and wrecking the economy with their communist policies, things would've been different had he not died.
