The Non-Canon Expert explains why Jedi Master Mace Windu prevented Anakin Skywalker from joining him in confronting Palpatine, who was the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, based upon information received by Mace both before and after the Battle of Coruscant.
The more you learn about the last day of the Jedi, the weaker they appear.
Guardian I hope so. Hopefully in Episode 9 of after that Luke will create a new Jedi-Order, and go to the old Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and rebuild it.
If they had studied, understood and used the dark-side, they wouldn've been so ill prepared to deal with the sith.
The Jedi's real problem was fear. They were scared of the dark-side of the force.
To respect something's power is normal, natural, rational and the only sure way that it won't rip you to pieces. But to fear it, is irrational.
For example, if you've never swam you SHOULD respect the oceans power because it can kill you and you have no idea how to swim back to shore if things get out of control. But if you FEAR the ocean, you'll never know how fun it is to swim, you'll never be able to use it as a source of food, and you'll be afraid to learn how to ride it's waves. The inverse is also true of someone who is too over confident in the ocean. They both lack the proper respect of something that is more powerful than they can possibly imagine.
The Jedii didn't respect the power of the dark-side. They were afraid. The sith did not fear the light side of the force, which is why the Jedi fell.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. This is one of the many reasons why Palpatine was so successful in creating war and ultimately overthrowing the Jedi... Plus he had an understanding of both sides of The Force as he said; "My master taught me all there is to know about The Force, including the nature of the Dark Side."

When Anakin left him on Tatooine in The Phantom Menace, he had no armor plates, but when he went to find his mother in Attack of the Clones, he had the gray armor plates... So I would love to know, who really put the armor plates on 3PO?

It was Mace's arrogance and the decision not to have Anakin accompany the 4 of them was the final blow to Young Skywalker.
The fact that Anakin accumulated so much data was through private audiences with Palpatine/Sidious, no-one likes being brushed aside like that!!
If only Mace would have broadcasted to the galaxy the identity of Sith Lord then everyone would have been more hesitant to let The Emperor take over. Not that they could stop cause they couldn't. But also remember the emperor also predicted years of civil war if the Jedi weren't destroyed, which is what happened.
Distrust bred only distrust. Mace's initial distrust towards Anakin led to Anakin distrusting him. It's funny because if Mace was willing to trust Anakin it's highly possible that Anakin would've helped Mace to subjugate Palpatine.
Kubinda12345 Not really, what you're forgetting is that at that point Anakin's only concern was saving his wife. Mace saw conflict in Anakin and chose to bench him, you don't send a sympathiser to fight your enemy. Anyway, whether or not Mace and Anakin trusted each is actually irrelevant in the end, and that is because only Palpatine was offering to Save Padme. Had Mace taken Anakin to face Palpatine, what are the chances that he would have sided with Jedi over the possibility of saving Padme? Keep in mind at this point it was evident that Anakin valued her life over that of the entire Jedi Order. No amount of trust has ever prevented Anakin from putting the good of others over his fear of loss.
Er.. Anakin was ALREADY under Palp's influence. Anakin didn't have to cut Mace's hand off, he could have just blocked his lightsaber... but apparently Jedi always have an addiction to cutting hands off.
It's possible that if Mace had brought him and things started to go the same way that Mace could convince him that they could save his wife without the need of the Sith Lord which would have changed everything.
Boredfan Gerrude Think about it: Anakin turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, in a HEARTBEAT, with NO hesitation or wavering.
Clearly, he was pretty much on the brink, and Mace Windu recognized this conflict-- and that Anakin was in NO condition to confront Sidious.
Remember that the Jedi Council was already very concerned about Anakin's involvement with the Chancellor-- it's the only reason that they allowed him to sit on the Jedi Council, after all; and so once Anakin reported to them that Palpatine was the Sith-lord, then Mace wasn't about to place Akanin in a position where his loyalties would be compromised.
The council handled the issue poorly though, they ostrasized him rather than treating him as a normal Jedi and that created bitterness and resentment in Anakin which drove him closer to the dark side.
All the Jedi seemed to believe that Anakin had a lot of fear in him. Even in their final battle Dooku says to him "I sense great fear in you Skywalker!" As if he knows someday he will be by his side

Mace fell to the Dark Side himself, when he tried to kill Sidious rather than arrest him; that's exactly what Sidious wanted. Just like he did against Luke Skywalker, 25 years later.
Mace understood Sidious controlled the Senate, and would be freed to do evil, so Mace showed wisdom. The very fact thousands of Jedi were slain shortly after by Sidious Order 66 proved Mace's wisdom.

There should be a theory video of: What if Anakin had just listened to Windu and chilled in the Jedi council chambers and not flown to Palpatine's apartment? Would Mace Windu have won with a confirmed kill or would Palpatine have won, with no feigning weakness, nobody to cry for help?
I think if not Anakin then Vincent would appear but would help Mace. If not him then Mace would use Force Snakes on Palpatine.

Palpatine literally engineered the whole thing. Windu and the council had their suspicions, but they did not suspect the Sith Lord was Palpatine. They would not have guessed had he not revealed it to Anakin, and he timed the revelation perfectly when Anakin was at breaking point in his fear for Padme and his conflicted loyalties.
He knew Anakin would turn him in (even encouraged him to), and probably excepted an attempted arrest. He was prepared all the time. He fully intended to use the whole thing to his advantage. The Jedi were already at their lowest ebb in terms of public opinion. An attempted arrest would not have looked good, and in the event an aggressive response would have been spun as an assassination attempt. Which it was.

I really liked the Video game release of Revenge of the Sith. It had so many extra voice lines, giving so much context. Like Mace and Anakin's argument while battling.
Mace Windows decision to not bring Anakin was the Tipping Point that showed he and others did not trust Anakin and this pushed him a lot more closer to Palpatine's side.

Good, Mace Windu brought three Jed Masters named Saesee Tiin, Agen Kolar, and Kit Fisto preparing to arrest Chancellor Palpatine, before Anakin arrives to rescue him from Mace. Anakin is confused whether or not if he should save Palpatine or have Mace Windu to kill him. Mace speaks to Yoda on the holograph, after Obi Wan killed Grievous on Utapau. Yoda told Mace that the Chosen One, must be with him to arrest Chancellor Palpatine, but Mace ignores Yoda's advice.
i'd like to believe that that dark-side of the force also clouded windu's judgement.
It seems that Lucas was trying to show this when Windu says "he's too dangerous to be left alive" which were the exact words Palpatine used when he asked him to execute Dooku. They could have taken a blood sample of the emperor and proved that he was loaded with midicholorians and used this evidence to give further credibility to the idea that he was a sith lord. As all force sensitives had to be registered and are forced to be given tests at birth,.
I'm kind of shocked someone as powerful as Papa Palpatine, slipped through the cracks. But according to the lore, he did and the Jedi could have used that evidence. It seems that Windu's rush to execute him in front of Anikin makes more sense that it pushed him to the dark side as Jedi and Sith were ready to murder people without any due process, than what is the difference?

Windu's overconfidence was his weakness in that case and he can't tell anybody that their faith in their friends was theirs. He was trying to arrest _a Sith Lord_ in the case he originally intended to arrest Palpetine, since he was there on Anakin's information. He should have seen the force lightning coming from the start.

But "he's too dangerous to be left alive" was deliberately chosen to emphasize how the Jedi and Sith were basically religious extremists. It made it about choosing a side and which religious nuts he wanted to follow. Do you follow the guy who fills your head with promises of power and and saving the people you love? Or the people who tell you that you can't love people and have been keeping you away from what you believe is your rightful place? The people who tried to use your relationship to spy on your friend and father figure? Who tried to overthrow and murder him without a trial?Because he followed a different religion?
Was he wrong about them being bad people? They kept his children away from him and then told his son lies to weaponize him to kill his own father.

I agree. If he had walked in there with Anikin Palpatine probably wouldn't be as quick to attack because of how he would perceive it. He wanted Anikin to see it as self defense rather than a hostile action on his part.

#Suggestion: If Anakin joined Mace and the other Jedi in confronting Chancellor Palpatine, Anakin would not have saved Palpatine because he saw his evil rage against the Jedi, but he also still wanted to arrest Palpatine. Even though a couple Jedi were killed here, Anakin, Tsasi Tin and Mace would be able to capture Palpatine and with their combined force strength they would sever Palpatine from his connection to the force. Palpatine would go to prison and Anakin would be elevated to the level of Master Jedi. He and Padme' would raise their children named Luke and Leia Skywalker. Then Luke Skywalker would be tempted to the darkside by the force ghost of Darth Plageuis because of his own restless nature and urge for quick power in the force. Luke Skywalker would become Darth Vader. He would be the one to turn against the Jedi and kill the Jedi council as he goes on a killing rampage. Luke would hunt down the other Jedi and kill them as well as declare himself as Emperor Vader after discovering order 66 in an old database. The republic Clone Troopers which were continued to serve the republic to the present day.
Yeah, I think Palps wold just have blasted him with some lightening. and honestly, if I was stuck in a room with a mad space wizard who could zap someone and throw them out of the window, I'd probably be terrified enough to swear to do whatever they wanted too.
This was the biggest mistake Mace Windu made, not allowing Anakin to be the 5th Jedi.

what I wanna know is how did anakin get to chancellors office so quickly? mace left hours ago and anakin is seen pacing the jedi consol room waiting and than grows impatient waiting for news. he gets there 45 seconds after mace does.

The jedi themselves are the main reason for Anakin's fall to the dark side! They refused him the rank of jedi master, expeled his padawan Ashoka Tano from the jedi order, and forced him to spy on Palpatine! This was the real point of view of Anakin Skywalker, that the jedi are evil! Maybe, just maybe if Mace Windu showed more trust to Anakin, the result could be a different one!

Yeah to be fair, he sensed that fear and confusion all along. I still think it was foolish to send a person who was so close to Palpatine to spy on him. I mean in the real world, a cop would not be allowed to investigate someone they were were personally involved with, i.e a friend or relative, because its known to cloud judgement and make them less objective.
They should have kept them apart really, and sent Anakin off on some mission when they arrested Palps.

Mace was by far the most logical Jedi in the order and closest to catching onto Darth Sidious. For a time even Sidious viewed Mace as his greatest threat until Mace told him Yoda was their greatest fighter and not just a teacher. Yoda was the one who thought that he alone or just Mace with Kolar would be certainly enough to beat Sidious. Mace was wise though and brought Fisto and Tiin as extra insurance. Anakin as he concluded was a threat and emotionally attached to Sidious who was essentially like the father in his life. Mace's only mistake was not having Anakin join Cin Drallig or Shaak Ti at the temple to make sure he didn't come to help Palpatine. Mace sensed the darkside around Anakin and had heard of how Anakin had tortured Poggle the Lesser. He also knew that Ahsoka had threatened to do the same to Nute Gunray which told him exactly what kind of apprentice Anakin was creating. This was his only other mistake as he believed Ahsoka also was walking the border to darkness as her Anakin since she was also so reckless and had done controversial things.

Guardian He was introduced in the Clone Wars animated series that aired prior to the release of Episode 3.
As per why he went from badass to cowardly bitch, even throughout the original Clone Wars series, he rarely confronted his enemies directly and instead relied on psychological warfare and unorthodox surprise attacks to get the better of his opponents. Dooku even coaxes him during his training to "use the unorthodox". Even though he was skilled enough to hold his own against a skilled Jedi, his kills often came as a result of catching his opponents off guard and making them panic and choke under pressure. If the Jedi was not afraid of him, he was at the disadvantage due to not being force sensitive, even moreso after Mace crippled him at the end of the Clone Wars series.

Obi wan was a form 3 god, and he was able to simply block all of Grevious' attacks. Notice how Grevious tried to cut through his defenses, instead of around them.
Mace windu must have figured that sidious's power level was around dooku's, because windu only took 3 jedis with him to arrest palpatine. Mace windu underestimated darth sidious's powers with was very risky.

So right at Anakin weakest moment mace told him he doesn't trust him then turns around and tries to kill Palpatine who is one of the few individuals Anakin views as a friend it was the straw that broke the camel's back the worst part is mace completely ignores the Jedi way not only by attempting to kill Palpatine but by ignoring the will of the force at his own peril because he was aware everything rested on Anakins decisions yet tryed to exclude him from the hole ordeal his arrogance was his weakness

Kristopher, Yoda wasn't in Coruscant when Mace and three other Jedi Masters name Agen, Saesee, and Kit are about to arrest Palpatine. Yoda was on Kashyyyk helping Commander Gree and his clone army to defeat the Separatist droid army, so they can protect the Wookies in their homeplanet. Anakin was stuck in the Jedi Council Chambers, when Mace, Agen, Saesee, and Kit are about to arrest Palpatine for his deception by starting the Clone Wars.

Dooku said to Anakin at the beginning of Revenge of The Sith that he senses great fear in him. How did Anakin reach the Chancellor's office, since he was at the Jedi Council Chambers? Anakin arrived 45 seconds earlier than Mace did. Mace's own mind saying that why should we trust Palpatine, such we gave him unlimited power just to stay in office much more longer. Anakin told Obi Wan that the Senate demanded that Chancellor Palpatine should stay in office much longer, but Obi Wan told Anakin to use your feelings and something is out of place.

I don't think he would, unless he had probable cause and evidence of Anakin committing heinous crimes against the Jedi (we don't see it fully at least until after Windu was pushed out the Windu). Besides, Anakin was still heavily debated topic over whether he was the chosen one or not. Up to this point, Yoda, Mace and Obi-1 were actually undecided and wanted to ride the theory out.
Can someone explain to me if anakin didn't kill padme the what would she of died from or been in danger from ? Vader ended up killing her after he tried to do to stop it but yet he couldn't stop himself. I understand him thinking he needed sidious but what was the immediate threat to padme

Mace would have mopped the floor with Anakin hadn't Anakin betrayed him and caught him off gaurd. Mace nearly killed Sidious. That is something not even Obi Wan could pull off. Had Mace been focused and fought Anakin head on he most certainly would have won.

guillaume julien It doesn't make sense because how you're interpreting things is not how they were. First, Mace was completely justified in not trusting Palpatine the Jedi did not give him any power it was the Senate. By this point it had been well established that Senators were just a bunch of cowardly, self-serving mules driving Palpatine's political machine. Second, it was not until Palpatine showed a lust for power while simultaneously becoming more dictatorial that the Jedi began to have pause, not to mention the fact that he was well past his term limits.
Lastly, why should Mace trust Anakin? Mace was initially against even inducting Anakin into the Order and even after accepting him in Anakin displayed a pronounced inability to maintain a Jedi sense of calm and balance. Why would you trust an emotionally unstable boy to confront the most manipulative Sith Lord in history? "Chosen One" or not to Anakin is still subject to sentient foibles and prophecy is not static, the future constantly shifts so it is entirely probable that prophecy can be forsaken. Would you have or placed your hopes in a boy who cannot be relied upon to put the Galaxy above his attachments? All on the basis of an as of yet ridiculously vague prophecy?
