I watched the weekend shows with Vance and could not believe my ears. It’s not so much that they were asking him hard questions, but that they were essentially playing defense for Harris and Walz and offense against Trump. Every time he answered a question they would dig and dig and dig trying their hardest to “win”, almost like they were debating rather than interviewing Vance. It was mind boggling.

I worked with the spouse of a reserve brass. He departed, legitimately, when he had the option to extend his tenure or leave ahead of our invasion of Iraq in 2003. His rationale? Most of his work had for 10 or more years been ceremonial, and to present for combat readiness in a command function but lax in military operations would do a disservice to the enlisted. I thought it was insightful for an old guy (my senior), considering I had 20-something relatives whose role was security and deployment and who served with distinction under competent active leadership.
