  • New England has over 40 different roller coasters. The region has some classic wood coasters, 7 different mountain coasters, and some award-winning roller coasters at both Lake Compounce and Six Flags New England. I have ridden almost every coaster in the 6 New England states, so in this video I rank all the region's coasters!

Given all the mountain coasters in this video alone, I think a video ranking your top __ mountain coasters (or just ranking all the ones you've ridden) would be a fun watch. What sets mountain coasters apart from regular coasters is the fact that the trim brakes are on the cart, and you get to control them. It's key to get an untrimmed ride. That means you need to leave enough space between you and the person in front of you and make sure you hold the handles down the whole way, which keeps the trims from hitting. If you catch up to the person in front of you and need to slow down, then you have ruined the ride and you'll get zero forces.

Boulder dash is decent, but not worth spending a day at lake compounce. Maybe its cause i grew up here, but seeing the first drop of superman from the ground, and diving through areas of the park really builds anticipation for that ride. Having ridden quite a few more coasters now, Superman is honestly pretty damn good the drop feels like it lasts forever too.

I only have 34 credits (half of which came in the last year and a half even though I'm 47 years old LOL), but I have to say I was so disappointed with Boulder Dash when riding it for the first time 2 days ago. All the things you said that make it amazing are true: Incredible setting, layout, aggressiveness, forces, yes! But OMG was it unbearably rough. I was seated closer to the back but I just think that if you have to qualify where to sit on a coaster to keep it from hurting (I somehow came out with a painful swollen knuckle), it can't be #1. I just spent way too much time "fighting back" against it rather than enjoying myself. Wicked Cyclone, on the other hand, is my favorite coaster anywhere in the world, not just New England (And I've done a few international ones).

Kiddie Coaster at Lake Compounce is the same as Li'l Phantom at Kennywood and what used to be Li'l Thunder which used to be titled Li'l Screamer at SF Great Adventure; the smallest gravity powered coaster coaster I've ever ridden. Speaking of gravity powered: Sky Rider could be considered by some to be debatable re whether or not it's a coaster, but 1: has wheels, 2: has a track and 3: is at least partially if not almost completely powered by gravity. Ive only been to 3 NE parks and my rankings are:
    1. Boulder Dash (By far the best coaster in the reigon. Nothing comes close)
    2. Superman: The Ride
    3. Wicked Cyclone
    4. Wooden Warrior
    5. Phobia
    6. Goliath (I could still appreciate the forces. This could easily be #3 if it ran smooth)
    7. Zoomerang (Way smoother than Flashback)
    8. Joker
    9. Batman: TDK
    10. Gotham City Gauntet
    11. Riddlers Revenge (Could easily move up but it was still Mind Eraser when I rode it)
    12. Flashback (Worst Boomerang ever. Constant headbanging and roughness. This coaster made me stop ranking all clones in one spot)
I didnt ride Thunderbolt, Pandamonium, Great Chase or Catwoman bc we left for a few hrs for food and when I came back later I opted for Wicked Cyclone and Superman rerides. And Wildcat at Lake Compounce was closed

      Mine:
      1. Wicked Cyclone
      2. Superman: The Ride (SFNE)
      3. Boulder Dash
      4. Untamed (Canobie)
      5. Roar-O-Saurus
      6. Yankee Cannonball
      7. Batman: The Dark Knight (SFNE)
      8. Dragon Coaster (Canobie)
      9. Zoomerang (Lake Compounce)
      10. Polar Coaster (Story Land)
      11. Canobie Corkscrew
Obviously there are a lot of rides I haven't ridden--I need to get back to SFNE and hit more of the "filler" coasters, Phobia at Compounce, and some of the other parks. And this list is to some degree eccentric and sentimental--Canobie's rides probably don't go that high in any "objective" sense but I have fond associations with them.
I almost feel like I'm being unfair to Batman here--it's a really good, definitely underrated ride, and the status of New England's only B&M is worth something in itself, but there's some emotional X factor I'm not feeling there.

I am always thinking of ways to enhance that fun so the experience becomes physically mentally financially spiritually beneficial and rewarding. Example the roller coasters should include some kind of test to see how well a person may keep their composure under high intensity excitement. Like being able to write your name and address before the ride ends. I think would be a fun way to test one's eye hand coordination similar to astronauts and jet fighters. Equally as true all roller coasters today should automatically have an electronic system that is constantly scanning the track for weakness fractures rust and corrosion. And with today's technologies should be no problem to upgrade any and all other roller coasters which will maximize on safety so people may have extreme fun on every ride
