    I´m a Norwegian, but as most (all) Scandinavians we are proud of our history. We are proud over the swedes and the danish, witch we has fought against, and with for almost 500 years.

    It was a song made to celebrate the 500 year anniversary of the Swedish royal guard (a military unit that has been in many battles). For me, it does not feel 100% sabaton but I personally think they made the song so you could sing it when matching, the Swedish version anyway.
    I think they were going to collaborate with the Swedish military but Sabaton went to Crimea and played for friends of Putin so it would have been bad publicity for Sweden to get associated with Crimea and Putin with the ongoing war in Ukraine.

      @@dusan9117 Yes, they played for a mc gang called Night wolves that has close ties with Putin. Sabaton don't take any side in any conflict but Sweden as a country could not support anything linked to the annexation of Crimea and war in Ukraine. I think Sweden did the right thing here

    I live just a mile from the current location of the Livgardet garrison in Kungsängen Sweden, they have really good exercise tracks for running (ie the military does not make them flat in any way shape or form :)) I have lots of good miles in those tracks.
    A long time ago (like 30 years... omg time just flies) i was in the infantry when i did my 10 months of conscription (if that's the correct word, it was what google translate called it). I did not do it as a part of Livgardet but at another location, but at one point we spent 5 days as the Royal Guard (Högvakten in Swedish) and that was one day guarding at the Royal castle and at Drottningholm palace and then one day "off duty" that was spent in the Livgardet garrison
    So yeah, this song brings back some meories...

    Great reaction as usual! I'd say that you do your reactions as you want to do them. If you want to go in completely blind with a Sabaton song and learn more about the history afterwards, that's the way you should do it. :) In a way, Sabaton songs are a history lesson teaser, they give you just enough information to make you want to learn more. Which is amazing in of itself.
    Since you've watched it now, here's a bit of history surrounding the song and the video.
    This song is the English version of the song Livgardet that they released in february. Livgardet (The Royal Guard) is one of the oldest still active military units in the world, they have been guarding the Swedish monarchy for 500 years this year. I am fairly sure that this video is based on the Skirmish at Bender in the Ottoman empire in the year 1713 where the Swedish king Karl XII, men from his Royal Guard and Caroleans (the king's soldiers) faced an overwhelming Ottoman force. The skirmish near the king was a force of around 45 Swedish men against 600 Ottomans.
    Karl XII had fled to the Ottoman Empire with his men after their defeat at Poltava in 1709 and was welcome as royal guests by the Sultan. They stayed there for 5 years and the visit became quite costly for the Ottoman Empire and gave the King a lot of enemies within the empire who wanted them gone. In the end, an army was sent to force them out. The Royal Guard and the soldiers had fortified the complex that held the home of the King and his whole entourage. They fought well and managed to push the enemies back, even with the entire complex set ablaze. One man in the Royal Guard saved the King's life three times during the battle according to the stories of the battle.
    But in the end, the King was captured when he tripped and fell and everyone still alive was taken prisoner. They were held for a while before being released and they could make their way back to Sweden.

    • @ThomasVanhala
      @ThomasVanhala Před 3 lety

      The Skirmish is known in Sweden as Kalabaliken i Bender and gave Sweden a new loanword, "Kalabalik". The word means confusion or chaotic event in Swedish but it is a Turkish word meaning large crowd. The music for this song it from the best know hymn in Sweden but is originally a Danish hymn.

    you should listen to the Swedish variant called "Livgardet"
    and you said that you look at the stories behind with such a thought is that you cut your video so you come back with thoughts when you have seen the background and your thoughts there (a little longer video but may be interesting to hear your opinion after that)

      Yep. 14 000 Ottoman Janissarys sent to capture the Swedish king vs 300 chosen Swedes. The rest of the Swedish forces were ordered to stand down so the wouldn't be needlessly sacrificed. But as the Swedish king couldn't just surrender, there had to be a symbolic resistance. If remember the numbers correctly. The kings house wasn't that fancy, though.

    Hi I'm new to your channel and I think this is the first time I ever left a comment... I like reaction videos and came across this one. I like sabayon and your other reactions. Now, for this one... they sing about livgardet, which is a long lived service in the Swedish army which I think was created to protect the royalty. Don/t quote me on the original intent but it's a cavalry and I did serve as a guard back in year 2000. Our main objective was to protect royal family, people in the government and buildings of interest (classified as under national interest). However times change and I don't know what they do anymore... We did have to polish up and look pretty for the tourists (but the weapons are old but sharply loaded) and we had fully working teams (Was a machine gunner actually). This CZcams clip was pretty accurate for my days: czcams.com/video/_VOndXHb2mk/video.html
